Is a $10 Fishing Rod Worth the Money? (Ozark Trail Wayfarer)
Ordered my first and probably only tractor recently. A TYM 3515CH (formerly a Branson cab model). It should be in and set up in a few weeks. Enjoyed your pointers and perspective.
I pretty much went through the same decision making process you did and came up with a similar conclusion. I have a TYM 3515CH on order currently. I needed a minimum PTO HP of 30 to meet my needs, and wanted a cab with hydrostatic transmission. It was simply the best deal possible on a compact tractor with my requirements, and with good dealer support reasonably close. The fact that it has pretty much the best 3 point and loader lift capacity in its class was a bonus! I'm also a big fan of the mechanically fuel injected Kukje / TYM engine.
sounds like a solution lookin for a problem, leave well enough alone
An aeration system has plenty of benefits to a pond, but unless it is introduced properly, you end up with the problem we had. Old ponds with little to no maintenance eventually will have problems. Some of them being significant problems. Our lake was heading in that direction, but we were misinformed when the system was installed and we ended up doing the very thing we were trying to prevent.
I watched this because I'm looking at adding an aeration system. Thanks for letting everyone know about the possibility of the ammonia issue. For other who are looking to install aeration systems, I am looking at and would recommend looking into a windmill aeration system. For that size pond it would be about the same cost for installation but no power or solar are required. This cuts out electric cost or messing with solar.
Eating Bluegills Are Fun Too!!!
man that is horrible. sorry you went through that and thank you for spreading the word. I have an old pond and have thought of adding an areator and would have done the same thing
Hey great video lots of useful information! As someone who has been a lake manager in FL for the last 10 years and who has probably installed 50 of those Airmax air systems your standing next to. the lake flipping or creating toxic gas is not common (in my area) at all again, it is still something that can happen but you're probably that 1 in 1000 that it happened to. Wich is why even the company that installed it was a bit shocked. it's good to hear that the company is making it right, hopefully there sticking with Airmax and using there Muck away product. I've used it on a few sites the last couple years and have gotten good results.
There are gases trapped in the muck and releasing it too quickly can kill the poor fish. The people advising you didn't have the knowledge they needed to safely add aeration. Mentioning ammonia makes me think they read about aquarium water cycling after the fact and guessed that was the problem. I know about cycling but adding aeration to my pond was a completely different beast and I might have made the same mistake without the guidance of the folks who sold me the equipment that I installed. They answered questions that I wouldn't have known to ask. I was told about the trapped gasses and advised to start slowly at only 20 mins a day. I'm sorry you had that experience and I hope the company you used sought to learn more about the business they have decided to be in. Sounds like they didn't have any experts on board to educate their staff. Thanks for your video. You may saved others from the same situation. I researched a ton before finally putting in the aeration and I didn't read anywhere about trapped gasses. When I first added pond dye after putting in aeration I could see all the different layers and colors of the water turning over. It was different depending on the depth of the water in specific areas. The dye helped cool down my water temp and quickly cut down the algae overgrowth that was over taking my pond. I have a 1/2 acre pond that's18 feet in the deepest areas. It had catfish when I moved in but I think I'm down to one now. I need a camera out there to find out who is taking the fish. Something strong, I'm sure.
My reel I just bought catches when you try to crank it.
I have 2. The tip eyelet of one broke off after about 6 fishing trips. On the very next one, I hooked a small catfish (under a pound) and the actual rod tip on the other one snapped. I really wanted to love these rods, but I can't recommend them for anything other than casual sunfish fishing from a dock here and there.
I haven't broke mine yet. I have probably caught more crappie than anything on it.
This is unfortunately a common issue with these underwater diffused aeration systems. A fountain is a lot safer. It should have been made clear to introduce it slowly (usually recommended 1 hour the first day, then 2 hours the second day, 3 hours the third day and so on) This can happen with new or old lakes, I forget the proper terminology for it but essentially these diffused aerators can cause all the oxygen to rapidly rise to the surface if they are turned on full blast non-stop right from the start. Thats why the fish were rushing to the top and out to the shoreline
Thanks for sharing this.
I’m sorry for your loss…. Our pond turned over years ago and we lost all ours…. I’m doing research now on pond aerators so that doesn’t happen again…. The pros should of know about the break in period to an established pond and helpfully they follow thru with replacing
Yea i caught two 5lb bass in a row and then a 7lb pike it’s great rod
the rod itself is good! But the reel is 50/50, especially if you fish a lot, but yes, it's definitely good enough for a $10 combo, I got a few, for me & kids, I've been using it for the last 2 years and only replaced one so far
Mine is still going strong, but I don't use it much anymore. I keep meaning to do a review on it, but just haven't had time
I also think that was too many grass carp for that pond.
We didn't stock them. Any grass carp that were in there were stocked by my grandparents. I only ever heard they stocked 9, but maybe they put in more. There was a point in time where the entire lake was filled with moss. The carp definitely cleaned it up, but it took years.
Very informative...thank you
Wow, sorry that happened to you and thanks a million for for heads up. I want to add add areation to an acre pond, thats 70 years old, and has 3 feet of muck in bottom. Had i just tossed in aerators, would have killed everything as well! Has the water clarity improved overall with the areation? As for the grass carp, they are not supposed to be able to reproduce, sooo that's an interesting one! Good luck on your repopulation. Hope it goes well. I wondered about crappie andmybe adding sone to my pond. Where r u located?
My wife was using mine for the first time cut limbs that were like 3 inches in diameter. I wasn’t outside, but she said it sounded like a jammed. It doesn’t move, but the batteries charged. I don’t know what the problem is.
Do you still have that 10$ rod from Walmart how did it hold up
I do. I haven't used it in a while, but I plan on using it in my kayak on Memorial Day weekend to try catching some of the walleye I stocked. It still works just fine. One of these days I will do a review on it.
Orange my favorite color I seen it at Walmart almost grabbed it but the 10$ wasn’t sure but hell I’m picking it up
It's not a bad rod for $10. I have caught quite a few different species with it. Mostly smaller fish, but it can handle an average bass or channel cat.
Great white shark I phone version
I got my Branson 3520H a little after you. Your video helped me decide. What is the advantage of teeth on you bucket? I'll hit 50 hrs this summer and will take back to the dealer for the 50hr service. I also far prefer the hydrostat trans. No regrets on my end either as long as my dealer keeps servicing it.
Bucket teeth help with digging in dirt. The force of the bucket is put into 7 small teeth as opposed to 1 big cutting edge, giving you an advantage digging up compact soil.
Do you know of a generic tip out windshield that will fit it?
Honestly never looked for one. I just get all my parts through work.
I just bought this model with the backhoe, 5' brush hog, box blade and it should be delivered 4/17/24
This is a very helpful and informative video. Thanks for posting.
Having a professional, certified installer install system they should known need to cycles 30 min day 1 1 hr day 2, 2hr day 3 etc. Double each day till at 24hrs then let it run constantly. Leave on to long to start you let off toxic gas causing fish kill
I got the same set I keep it in my truck tool box with my M18 impact it's a great kit !!!!!
I'v bought one of these new in October of 21 I didn't get it until February of 22. We got the front & rear windshield & roof with the liner & the same winch you have. I love it you have to have the seat belt on in the drivers seat to go 35 . Having the back windshield helps with sand coming in through the back a lot. Have had a few problems of course out of warranty . some times it wont start you have to keep pumping on the brake to get it to start . IT'S only got 51.3 hrs on it. to day I went to raise the Rt rear seat up and the cushion just came off in my hand. All the plastic dowels that go through seat frame were broke off. I don't know how this happed as I'm the only one that drives it and it's keep in a garage. I think they were over tighten when assembled. It has not been raw hided . Be careful picking up the rear seat grab under and grab the frame of the seat .I bet the cushion is costly , I'v got to get creative to fix it because all the 6 or 7 dowels broke off at the plastic base the cushion is made to .. My uncle has a large kubota diesel UTV it is a pain to get on and off of not like the Bobcat UV34XL . The polaris ranger 1000 bed is 8 in shorter than the Bobcat but same width . I measured my brothers I was just curious. As you said it's built for work & not hauling tail . I do like my kubota M5040 4X4 it is a great tractor . Thank you for your video it was spot on thank for sharing !!!!!!!!!!!!! 👍👍
Thank you! Very informative.
10 kto install 200 dollar pum0
Sorry for your lost. You have too much organic material at the bottom and the air pump dissolve it back in to the water column. Most probably, you had also gas (metano) bubbles, inside the organic material, and they break up. Very common in old freshwater aquariums, with low maintenance. Nitrogen turns into ammonia, which is poison. For the future, you need some kind of filtration to decompose ammonia to less harmless nitrites and nitrates. A simple bog filter, only with gravel and aquatic plants, 10% ou 15% the surface of the lake would work fine, I think, should be enough to maintain the lake clean and safe for the live stock. A constant flow of fresh water would be very important also, if possible. But, first, I would clean as much organic material as possible with a submersible pump. Great fertilizer for plants and trees. My two cents.
You could have got everything including a fake rock for $500 bro. Vevor is the company.
Why would you mess with a 60 year old pond.... its running perfectly fine. If God wanted those things he would have them installed on the pond
This is exactly what I'm thinking 👍 I too have a pond that is 50 plus years old. Never had a fountain, aerator nothing. Even gets low in the summer. Never ever had any fish to die for any reason.
It's called maintenance.. just done wrong
I'm going on my 3rd year with my Zmaster. Love it. Just recently changed the blades, easy to do. I mow 11 acres with zero issues. At 150 hrs, my ZMaster is going strong.
I'm 15 years in with mine, 825 hours, still looks brand new. I still haven't done any major maintenance. Oils cheaper than machinery. I buy a few sets of blades off amozon every year I sharpen them about every third or fourth time. I replaced all bearings and wheels last year. don't go cheap on wheels you'll just replace them again within months. the first wheels lasted 12 years, I have the good tires on there again now..(.Tires not wheels) replacing bearings was a waste of time. I grease everything religiously. You will enjoy that machine for many more years, eventually that will be the cheapest piece of equipment you've ever bought. I'm guessing you have the 60" like I do, either way they are awesome
Just bought one. It does not work. Blade starts to spin a little then does a few clicking sounds and stops. Battery is fully charged as far as I can tell.
That is unfortunate.
I love bass fishing but pan fishing has been on my to do list.
I love catching me some bluegill and other sunfish.
Wow! Thanks so much. I don't think we need an aeration system at all. I am sold on grass carp though. I really appreciation you letting us know. Sorry for your loss.
I got the newest one for 20 bucks, works great, love the security it gives me having it in my truck
Are you now disappointed that Tym bought branson and parts will eventually be harder to get ?
I don't think parts will be harder to get. TYM has partially owned Branson for a while and I can still go to my same dealer to get parts like always. I believe a lot of their tractor models are similar and use the same parts, so I'm not worried about it for the time being.
I love Ozark Trail hard lures! You should really try the translucent white shad rattle trap, have had alot of luck with that and the bright red craw crankbait, its essentially the same as the brown one you have there but a different pattern, and bright red color that seems to really attract bass. Also if those mini crank baits don't run quite right, try tuning them up a bit and they'll run true!
What exactly do you mean by tuning them up a bit?
@@redneckofftherange3008 well the problem I had with the micro craw, was that it was running hard left and wouldn't run correctly. So basically you just grab a pair of pliers and slightly bend the tie eyelet towards the opposite direction and test it in the water until you get the desired action. It's a bit hard to explain in text, you can just CZcams. "tuning crankbaits" and it'll show you how to do it.
I bought my first tractor in 2020 during Covid, but it didn't arrive til mid 2021. It was a Branson 2515h. It was the most affordable with the best lift per it's competitors in the sub compact class. It works for my 12 acres, tilling, bush hogging, road leveling and sump removal.
So far this tractor has done everything we have asked from it. Hoping to get it out again this weekend to help clear some trails in the woods.
OMG stop aeration stop the lake bottom🛎🛎🛎🛎🛎
It needs to be on a float well above the bottom seen this so many times
It’s 5’6?
Yes.
ive gotten 5lb pound channels on these hell of a fight on a little rod but its fun
Could you please tell me how far you had to run electric power and what size wire and breaker you used. I need to run about maybe 1000 -1500 feet of wire and I don't know that much about wire size and length of running. Also what pump did you use and the amp draw of the pump.
I don't know exactly how far it was, but it was probably at least 200 feet from the barn to the compressor. We used 10ga wire and a 30 amp 220 breaker. I'm not sure what pump is used for the system. We bought the whole system through a pond management company and they installed it for us. What are you running wire for? A similar system?
A fountain is safer. You canmake one just using your pvc coming into pond bank and make different heads and patterns. We use a centrifuge pump and we have different dyi heads/pattererns. Or just pushing water across the TOP works. NEVER stir up the bottom. As you and others have found. 😢
Heres the link to one other case exactly like yours. czcams.com/video/Tcf_rwTKN1Y/video.htmlsi=h4sOlHfi-RAH-9do
This is happening to others that use this system. I will post the link to someone else. They lied if they claimed not to see this problem before.
