Lectures. The note taking and studying is where the learning happens for me anyways.

I like when assignments are posted as a learning aid, but aren’t graded and maybe even give a small amount of extra credit. It lets students who need help with deeper content engagement, but doesn’t require busywork as you phrased it. I’m a student who is a few years into my bachelors.

If the lectures r high in depth then they'll hopefully be more memorable than words on a pdf or paper... *That one guy trying to remember a formula from an assignment they did half a week ago: "I know it was important, I just can't figure out what it was."* Aside from that, the implementation of what you teach is what matters. Involving high levels of interaction and depth into lectures allows you to see what's learned be put into action and let's you respond to it in real time. If you have a large class, doing 1 on 1s could reduce productivity more than it helps. I'm no professional teacher, so I have no teaching experience. But I have learning experience, not saying I'm 100% correct tho. Repetition is great for memorizing stuff, which is what many smaller assignments are for. But actually learning & using context to figure out when and what situation to do what and how to do it THROUGH EXPERIENCE rather than memorizing words on a slate is how I think it should be done. Less assignments, more lectures maybe? Yes experience. Idk how you formulate your assignments, if they're unique in some way or watever. Maybe it works... Just looked at the channel name, assignments seem easy to do but from wat I remember when I did biology and chemistry is really just wat was done on the board and not so much the paper/computer. Lectures for me! I remember nothing from middleschool because all of it was from assignments during covid. As long as the slate is big enough for people to grasp the situation, they can learn how to do watever with the right algorithms.

Less busy work>> I’m the kinda gal who prefers to have homework that is to stay up to date on lectures and study. I didnt always learn from busy work/assignments SPECIALLY the paid online homework sites. Ive had teachers also ask us for syllabi feedback on the first day of class so maybe it could be great way to build rapport from day one with your students❀ The assignments you have prepared could be supplementals/study guides for exams or extra credit :D

I love a lecture driven class with exams and less busy work myself. I find it easy for me to get through each week and I find that I retain more information when there is less work. I’m a college student in my last year and I’m applying for a masters program as well.

Many animal parasitoids require another organism for reproduction. I don't understand how virus reproduction isn't considered parasitoid reproduction.

Great video. The challenge with programming is that you have to use it to retain it. So an "intro to python for biologists" course will be more beneficial than a generic programming class. ChatGPT is great for explaining concepts (brilliant idea btw) and helping to write code. With regards to the latter, make sure you have enough foundational knowledge to know when it's telling you the wrong thing, though. Good luck!
