The 1880 Steam Train travel's the roughly 10-mile Black Hills Central rail line between Hill City, SD, and Keystone, SD. During it's trip, it must climb/descend a 6% grade just outside of Hill City, and navigate through the beautiful Black Hills National Forest. Located in the basement of the Deadwood, SD, Badlands Brothel Bar & Casino is the NHRS HO layout. It is very nicely detailed and occupies a 20 feet x 75 feet area. Located in the basement of the South Dakota Stock Grower's Association, is The Rapid City, Black Hills & Western Railroad. A 9-scale mile freelance HO layout depicting various areas throughout the State of South Dakota. Check out their web site: bhrs.club/

The North Metro Model Railroad Club built the largest (known) HO layout in the State of Minnesota. Located in a 5,000 Square Foot basement it is NOT a public layout. However, the NMMRC does hold public open houses a couple of times a year. Check out their Facebook page for more information: nmmrc/

In the basement of Vernon F., a retired BNSF Conductor who lives in Mandan, ND, is a huge HO layout. It consists of 1,000 feet of track, 500 feet of mainline, 500 feet of industry track, 200 powered switches, 90 electron magnets, and a fully functional signal system. Vern spent 5 years building his layout which is very nicely done.

In Bismark, ND, is a large HO scale model railroad under construction. The DC&W is located in the basement of the Lewis Hotel, at the Buckstop Junction historic town site on the east edge of Bismarck. The layout is located in an approximately 3,000 square foot space, and has over 1,000 feet of operating track. It will be pretty nice when it is completed.
