The narrowboat at 5:08 was the one we had hired. There had been no space for us to moor in the centre of town, so we had hammered the mooring stakes into the very soft bank upstream. The first I knew was a great crash in the small hours: the mirroring stakes had been pulled out as the water rose, maybe a foot since we had moored, and the current carried us downstream and we were stuck under the bridge. Fortunately I had my phone, so called the Fire Brigade and they rescued us onto the bridge: myself and my wife, 2 children and two Norfolk terriers. they took us back to the Fire Station. The following day we did a quick trip to M&S to buy essential clothes and managed to make our way back to the boatyard, where our car was, and then drove home.

A rainy day with a bunch of shitty umbrellas everywhere probably ready to poke your eyes out around a bunch of people you will never know and meet in your life who will probably accediently hit your face because of the space.....that's the type of Christmas celebration I like
