After a few successful flights at the cottage, something went terribly wrong. Immediately after takeoff the multicopter wasn't responding to inputs correctly, and proceeded to drift towards a tree, sending it plunging into the lake. Fortunately, search and rescue were standing by to pull the wreckage from the lake.

Yeah, he had it all predicted, the medium is the message, no one really understood what he was talking about. He did not care about bandwidth or issues with signal to noise ratios when it came to communication, he wanted to understand how the method of communication affected human behavior. His take on the transition from oral communication to the abstraction of the phonetic alphabet made us who were are today, but digital media would be regressive, eliminating individual agency and returning us to the collective tribal nature. We have proof all around that has occurred.
I agree with what he's saying but the ruling class isn't that dumb, they know how to either defuse or co-opt all this tribalistic reversion. A highly developed first world nation is not going to let itself separate up into competing camps resulting in civil war. The reason why the United States is entering into a second cold war with China (the ostensible adversary) is to co-opt the tribalization event that's already taking place in this country. The masses will have a common enemy and convenient scapegoat they can rally against. And their collective identity as united "Americans" will be solidly restored. You bet

That sucks! I've had my QX for just over a year and so far so good, knock on wood. Is the quad shot? Good to see GoPro was in waterproof case!
Months later I can report the quadcopter in this video survived the splashdown! I disassembled it, left all the pieces to dry and this spring I reassembled it and tested it. Sure enough, everything is in perfect working order.
