The Silk City Gallery was hosted as the 4th street art gallery project by the Stadtmarketing Krefeld and again was organized in cooperation with Fredda Wouters from FreddArt Streetpainting as artistic director and project manager.
The project was preceded by the Woodart Gallery (in the outskirts of Krefeld in 2015), by the Rhineside Gallery (on the Rhine promenade in Krefeld Uerdingen in 2017) and by the Downtown Gallery (in a bunker in the city center in 2019).
Similar to a steadily advancing artistic city invasion, the series of events now reached its climax in the Beuys year 2021 in the public space of the Krefeld's city center.
Around 30 local, national and international artists of different age groups designed the building facade of the silk weaver's house in Krefeld in cooperation with each other but in their own style. The theme was "Forming society through design" which implemented the thought provoking approach of the project. At a place of gathering, social and cultural exchange and communication, rigid concrete structures were optically softened, shaped and changed with art.
The co-creative process, became art itself: Image ideas, thoughts and concepts of the artists met, inspired, were worked out together and finalized on site.
Passers-by became part of a public communicative encounter space in which art becomes a social process through its intervention in society.

Die Silk City Gallery wurde als 4. Streetart Gallery Projekt im Rahmen des Krefelder Perspektivwechsels vom Stadtmarketing Krefeld veranstaltet und wieder in Zusammenarbeit mit Fredda Wouters von FreddArt Streetpainting als künstlerische Projektleitung organisiert.
Dem Projekt gingen 2015 die Woodart Gallery (in einem Naturschutzgebiet am Hülser Berg), 2017 die Rhineside Gallery (an der Rheinpromenade in Krefeld Uerdingen) und 2019 die Downtown Gallery (in einer Bunkeranlage im Stadtzentrum) voraus. Die Veranstaltungsreihe erlebte ähnlich einer stetig voranschreitenden künstlerischen Stadtinvasion nun ihren Höhepunkt im Beuys Jahr 2021 im öffentlichen Raum mitten im Stadtzentrum von Krefeld.
Rund 30 lokale, nationale und internationale Künstler*Innen unterschiedlicher Altersgruppen haben unter dem Motto „Gesellschaft formen durch Gestalten“ im Miteinander aber in der je eigenen Stilrichtung die Gebäudefassade des Seidenweberhauses gestaltet. An einem Ort der Zusammenkunft, des gesellschaftlichen und kulturellen Austausches und der Kommunikation wurden starre Betonstrukturen optisch aufgeweicht, geformt und mit Kunst verändert.
Der co-kreative Prozess wurde dabei selbst zur Kunst und zum Ereignis: Bildideen, Gedanken und Konzepte der Künstler trafen aufeinander, inspirierten, wurden weitergedacht, gemeinsam ausgearbeitet und erst vor Ort finalisiert.
Passant*Innen wurden Teil eines öffentlichen und kommunikativen Begegnungsraumes, bei dem Kunst durch ihren Eingriff in die Gesellschaft zum sozialen Prozess wird.
