Beautiful But Lost: Gravel Bike Ride Rural New England
Getting Lost On A Gravel Bike Ride seems like a bad thing, and sometimes it actually is. We realized a simple and free way to enhance any gravel bike experience no matter where you ride and whether your on an expensive carbon fiber race rig or a budget gravel bike like ours. This "GOLDEN RULE" is universal and can be done every time you ride. It's now something we utilize as much as we can now that we experienced it but. To show you what we discovered, I can't think of a better place to showcase this than the pastoral, rural backroads of Vermont and the Berkshires of western Massachusetts. This ride takes us all through two states, an unknown State Forest with incredible scenery and really fast and rugged decents. The feeling I get when riding here is like no where else I've ever been. It's really impossible for words to describe but I feel like this video catches the essence quite well. I'm very happy with the way this episode turned out, it's my favorite to date. It's also where my family lives so there's an extra special. and humorous moment at the end that I'm glad I captured for future days to look back on. What a day!
Much Love,
TMM

    My takeaway of the golden rule is emerse yourself in the moment. Enjoy what is around you. So many of the other people's bike videos place importance on distance rode. For me and my wife, and the 2 of you , it's what you see while riding. To borrow from my Ontario friends... RIGHT ON! Petal for peace. All the best from us in Western New York.

    • @ThatMountainMoment
      @ThatMountainMoment Před 10 dny

      It's all about those "Gravel Feels!" I honestly forget that I'm actually riding most of the time, like the movement sort of just blends into the experience and the scenery is the main event. Petal For Peace! Petal For Presence!

      @ThatMountainMoment Před 10 dny

      I love your takeaway of the golden rule. That golden hour time period, the way the light peaks through the forest and the long casted shadows just makes for a magical experience.

    • @davidweeks3758
      @davidweeks3758 Před 9 dny

      And I must add that a real life video keeps it "real" . Over editing and a totally polished video isn't going to tell the whole story. Like doing 30 mph and jarring thru those rough road spots, many would have edited that out. Keep it real. It connects with people.

    • @ThatMountainMoment
      @ThatMountainMoment Před 9 dny

      @davidweeks3758 thank you, I really enjoy a mix of raw camera moments and no music with nice cinematography of the things that I stop and admire. I try to use the camera as a reflection of what my eyes and mind are goimg through. If it's a jarring road the footage needs to reflect my eyeballs rattling out of my skull ha ha. If I pause to take in a view or appreciate some flowers, my mind is very still and so the camera should be. I was just having this conversation with my mom moments before reading this. She mentioned the camera stabilizatiin was shaky at times and it felt like her eyes had to try harder to focus (she wasn't critiquing but just said she noticed it)which is exactly the feeling I wanted from those instances so I'm really glad you enjoy that real aspect. Gopros naturally loose a bit of stabilization in low light conditions but it can be used advantageously. Man that really motivates me, I feel like I am able trust our viewers to understand the context of a video or specific scene.

    Ha, ha. I started riding leaving my phone at home and it is great. I also don't look at the head unit or just use a simple Cateye to display the time of day. If I have to go on a route where I could get into trouble, I take the phone but keep it off until I need it. I now charge my phone once a week. When you are focused on the road, it is not only safer in preventing collisions with distracted people, but more enjoyable because you are in the moment.

    • @ThatMountainMoment
      @ThatMountainMoment Před 10 dny

      Couldn't agree more! It's very freeing and fun to follow our curiosity to see where it takes us. The head unit is fine if we're in a new area but like you, prefer to leave it at home as much as possible. Ha ha I'm in the same boat as you with the phone, all my friends tease me about how often my phone is off. Despite having a CZcams channel, we're rarely on our phones and social media. I just don't enjoy it but do like being creative so CZcams serves that purpose for me. I feel like a planned route leaves me blindly following the head unit and closes off the options to explore freely.

    Just watched this video ...first time watching you 2...and immediately subscribed. Your riding attitude is the same s my wife's and myself 's riding attitude. Wash the social crap away and unwind and enjoy what's around you. The beauty of the gravel and nature. We live in the foothills southeast of Buffalo N.Y. Out favorite trails are the Erie Canal Trail and the Genesee Valley Rail trail. This trail is 90 miles long and goes from Rochester to Cuba NY. It's also a state park...50 ish foot wide and 90 miles long! An old canal towpath/ railroad bed which has been used by us humans for 160 years. Highly recommend these 2 trails. Take care for now and pedal for peace!

      Love it! It's so refreshing to interact in here with people that just enjoy being on a bike or outside in nature. I have a friend that 8 work with from Buffalo and he's told me about those trails and they sound really fun. The history of those old canal towpaths are very interesting. We rode the C&O Canal Trail this spring near my sister's house in Maryland to West Virginia and it was stunning. The eerie canal has been on our list too and now I'll add the Genessee. Thank you so much for your comment and subscribing.

    Greetings from East Tennessee and congratulations on another great video. One of the best things I like about your channel is that you're regular, everyday people and you're not constantly promoting products. I also love your dog. Terriers rock!

    • @ThatMountainMoment
      @ThatMountainMoment Před 25 dny

      Terriers do rock ha ha. We have company's send us products but we will only ever suggest a product if we've put it through many tests and then we'll use it in the videos and if someone inquires about it we'll arrange for a discount code but it needs to align with our videos flow and our vibe. I think straight up product ads disrupt a videos flow and only work if it fits in organically to the content. We are currently testing a couple cool items we think are neat and if we think it's worth mentioning then we will but my goal is not to feel like a salesman pitching things to people. I don't enjoy content like that so no reason to make content like that. We have a membership subscription and if people feel compelled to donate then cool, it can help with film equipment etc, but it's not what drives us to make these videos. I just love that people enjoy them and take something positive from them. Thank for your kind words.
