I think given the width and weight of the saber a piercing strike nay be more effective against that armor considering it is scale. Based on the fact that scale and ring mail is very effective at stopping a cutting or slicing blow but won't stop a puncture.

Chinese engineers are definitely no slouches! They are learning and improving so fast that their many, many magnificent achievements have the majority of the world’s people filled with admiration and awe. Absolutely impressive.
