Second the 30ppi foam sheet as the literal industry standard all other media gets compared to. Many many options but always put a sheet or two in every setup I can.

Hey mate! it's abut 30 mins away from me but it's my go to local freshwater aquarium shop. love the fish I get from there! Native fish are priced really well, just call in advance to see if they have want you want and go from there!

Yep! we had a council member identify them as black wattles which are native, they refer to them as an invasive native here haha. Grow and spread to fast choking out the eucalyptus species and other natives that are more essential in habitat. We have IBC's! So awesome idea there soaking the wood in there haha. We are on septic as well, I am not sure if it's reverse cycle though, basically we have a patch of land now that the septic run off(?) drains to.

​​@@BodgieFromStraya Yeah mate actually quite a few invasive natives. Here in the Hunter NSW we have a WA species of Wattle called Saligna. It's a massive pest here but still a 'Native' If you can just over time thin out the black Wattle you'll be surprised how much other things come back if it's controlled. Mate my IBC has done a lot for me from growing shrimp (outdoors!) to soaking timber and growing out plants. There friggin awesome. Highly recommend it! Yeah dude that sounds like what you need basically its the waste is 'processed naturally' like a fish tank and 'water' comes out the other end. Only catch is has some higher nutrients and a small risk of fecal coliforms. But if that Dam isn't for stock animals you eat or for you guys to swim use and you wanted it as a natural permanent body of water you could direct the flow towards the dam. Cut in a small stream to the dam and plant/pond plants in this stream and then the dam will constantly fill with water all day every day no matter the season. I've done it at my place with an old stock dam, the ducks/frogs/birds and hell even turtles showing up is insane!!

Eucalyptus is not suitable for an aquarium according to people who have been keeping fish longer than me.

@@alans4281 I have been using it for years. The thing is to ensure that the wood is seasoned.

@@Gilsfishroom I have also have wild collected Australian native timber that’s most likely eucalyptus in my tanks for years. However my statement was According to “ old timers “ is not a wood suitable for aquariums . In particular I believe it is the wood chewing species like BN pleco that don’t benefit long term from eating the wood . Possibly the oil in the wood? I actually agree with you the more seasoned it is the better.

I have also used heaps of old/seasoned eucalyptus and had no issues whatsoever. Second that must be seasoned as should EVERY piece of wood you use however. Also soaking never hurt, again for every piece of wood id recommended it if you can.

Hahaha, I think that grown up might just have to be me. Yeah, I'll for sure need to really double check those pieces near the dam, it's weird because they've been dead and fallen for at least 5 years but still got bone dry leaves attached haha.

Oh I agree, cherry barbs are the one fish that look amazing regardless of the variation they come in, long fin, albino, fire cracker, heck I would say a jet black cherry barb would look equally as cool.

What's crazy here is I had the exact same situation when these oscars were much smaller, after purchasing a new leichardti and adding it to the tank the oscars pretty much destroyed it in 1 hour which I didn't expect at all. They also tried to have a go at a pair of barramundi I purchased that were much larger than them, luckily I was able to pull the Barra out in time!
