Hello! We are Sabine and Marco. And we plan to drive, work and live in Ugly, a DIY shipping container home on a Mercedes Benz Atego 1218. Call it a Tiny House on Wheels, an overland truck, an adventure truck, an expedition truck or a converted boxtruck, you decide! We call it UGLY's JOURNEY!
We are converting a 20ft lowcube shipping container in a Tiny House. Our aim is to travel Europe, live Offgrid and mostly do Wild Camping. And while doing that we will run a HOTEL ON WHEELS in our Truck.
Before we travelled in a converted VW Transporter T6.1 long wheelbase campervan. We still share our daily life, vanlife hacks, tips and trics, van tours, road video's and offgrid idea's.
We hope to inspire you, provide idea's and show what the life on the road is all about. We are avid cyclists so expect to see some cycling action as well.

LOOK INSIDE! We FINISHED converting a 20FT SHIPPING CONTAINER into a TINY HOUSE ON WHEELS. In this TIMELAPSE video filled with AMAZING SMART IDEAS with RELAXING MUSIC and almost NO TALKING we show and explain you the completion of our build. I almost get emotional to see the quality of work you put into this. I would love to hear more about planning such a project: work order; design; planning the wiring and plumbing. It seems overwhelming. Would also like to know more about the legislation: is this classified as a camper now, and is that a difficult process? Also, what about operating costs when stationary?

impressive build. just one remark if that platform in the back is supposed to be for a bed later on you should cut some slots into this so the mattress that goes on top of this has ventilation from below otherwise it will get moldy under the mattress.

So we added a "hospital-cover" over the main matrass. That will prevent moisture from reaching matrass 😄👍 we keep an eye on it and till now all is fine.

I have noticed there seems to be a big difference in building between US and EU. But basically, and with some investigation, there is a logical explanation for everything. So are you willing to share where you think the wrong materials are used? Regards!

Buying new hardwood flooring to put on top of OSB Floor will cost ye north of 5$ a Sq ft..for Wood..not a cheap laminated plastic floor which sucks in terms of Vibe and Authenticity.

I would have turned it sideways and sprayed the Floor with Urethane and not lose more Height with the Floor Raising..also, the Floor below is Hardwood and perfectly good, rebuff it, revarnish it..adding on the Ceiling is probably ok because you need a place to run Wires + Insulation and Lights..just saying..the Floors also tell a History, add a Vibe..
Hi Andre, thanks for your point of view! 👍 You could indeed spray the underside and insulate between the steel "rafters". And for wires I could use the ceiling indeed, but for plumbing I really did want to go below. Did you manage to see the end product? And what I did with the OSB?
@@uglysjourney Its done now but if you do other projects, maybe think differently..A Community in Arizona did a 8 story high Rental Complex and they left the floors untouched, just buffed em , varnished them..they look great..steel plate inserts and all

Would a "murphy" bed work on a build like this?
Yeah, I think it could work. I choose storage below the bed, so you would not have that with a Murphy bed. Or you could create another bed on the location where I put the sofa's. 👍❤️

Yeah, it is not cheap, you are right. Not being able to have kids helps and making choices where to put the money did the rest. 👍

You are right and wrong. 👍❤️🤷 All in all things will be a trade-off between lighter and more expensive to buy vs heavier and more fuel consumption. But can I ask? How much heavier do you think I am compared to, let's say an Earthroamer SX?

You are right, but also not right. It is the same weight categorie as an Earthroamer. It weighs 12.000 kg (26.000 lb for US). 😉👍
