glad to see UNC on here (validates my opinion that it's a good school (: )! i applied to Brown and UNC (as well as some safeties). applied ed to Brown and got deferred, then got rejected in the spring (wasn't too torn up about it, was already in @ unc at the time and was super happy to be going there. didn't apply to the honors college though - know plenty of people that go there and say it's just an honorific, and doesn't really come with much difference. ) loved your reactions to the rejections (especially because i'm jealous that you at least got waitlisted at brown and i didn't). congrats on everything! :)

Purdue is great but not for all. Most kids from California hate it. Also from NY area. Most kids at Purdue are from a farm background, midwestern values and hard working. Environment is conservative. Most feedback from kids from NY or a cal say it’s not diverse, it’s cold and blah blah. etc. some truth to that but also false statement. CS at Purdue is highly competitive. Love Purdue! There are some signs of wokeness but nothing compared to many schools. Depends what you want. Again I loved my Purdue experience and would never change it!

Purdue is great! Great engineering school, and can’t be the crowd at Mackey Arena!

My wife went to Princeton and was miserable. In the end she wishes she had attended in-state UT-Austin and saved all of that money. I've worked at two different universities for over 16 years, and it is important to remember that these schools spend a lot of money branding and marketing themselves just like consumer products. Students are the customers, and they are willing to spend major $$$ for a perceived difference in quality. When in fact, for most majors, the quality of undergraduate instruction is not going to vary much at all. Far too many people choose a school based on impressive-sounding name and end up with hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt, and a degree that doesn't get them a job. Better to choose a school that you can afford, that also has the environment (location, size, class size, etc.) that fits you.
