I did a 10 mile loop bike ride on the William B. Umstead State Park horse trails (Multi Use Trails). I actually started at the Steve Troxler Agricultural Science Center but I didn't record that part of the ride on the way out. I recorded that part on the way back to my car though. ISS ham radio is active!

Astronaut Kjell Lindgren has been using the ISS crossband repeater the last few days to make random unscheduled contacts and I made contact with him this afternoon! This is not very common but you should be ready in case it happens. My contact is at 03:41. I'm using the Arrow II antenna with a Kenwood TM-V71A radio. Frequencies below... Snow Raleigh January 2022

I woke up to 2.5 inches (6.3 cm) of snow in South West Raleigh this morning. At 8:30am a news chopper was hovering nearby, presumably getting live footage of the snow on the major highways close to me (Interstate 40 and I-440). This led me to go outside with my camera and record a little footage. Here is a little edit of it.

I experience the “flow” you talk about when doing high speed Morse code contesting. That’s the main reason I enjoy doing it so much. It’s a great feeling and is mentally relaxing. The speed has to be just right. Not too fast that it’s difficult and not too slow that it’s boring. I look forward to the weekly high speed contest for exactly that reason. Another reason I think you will like CW !

In classic youtube fashion, I received no notifications of this upload. Nice to see we didn't have to wait almost 10 years since Serena. Hopefully this will become a more regular thing so that we can get more people with 2-way QSL cards.... not just the "reception only" qsl cards.
I have been told even enabling bell notifications isn't a guarantee you'll get one. It's still them optimizing the notifications you get so you don't get overwhelmed. Only alternative might be to regularly check the Subscriptions tab in YT to stay up to date. If they would provide RSS you could do your own. Oh well. Yeah and he has continued to be active since uploading this. He has also expanded his ops to the rest of the world like EU and Asia. They were jealous at first as he was only active over NA and some of Mexico and Central America. Also SA. I know he was active yesterday from reports on Twitter. Good times.

Cool Stuff! I have not tried working the ISS but have made alot of contacts on the AO9X birds using a 30yr old Alinco DJ580(a radio way ahead of it's time) in full cross band duplex mode at 5W. I have also made contacts using my Yaesu FT60 in half duplex mode. It's a bit clunky but it works and the radio has a special mode for it. All thru an ELK Antenna. 73 N5AQM

No argument using high power on an FM repeater, that really only applies to the linear sats where received signal is returned with a linear output and can desense the reciever with too much signal - nice snag
Thanks! Yes it definitely is a problem with linear sats. Even though it doesn't harm the FM sats some people still argue higher power shouldn't be used as it makes it harder for lower power stations to get in, which can be true.
Good job, I will give it a try - I also have the Arrow antenna. However, I'm in Kenya East Africa. Not sure if they will be monitoring while overhead East Africa with there being no VHF/UHF activity here, but I will give it a try 73 5Z4J

It was a diverse crowd (in age at least) with a ton of different and also diverse performers and it stretched for a long time. Very cold too. I'm sure everyone there didn't know who she was or care for that type of music. Not surprised that they weren't going nuts.
