    First of all, don’t forget about Louis Le Prince and his films from 1887-1888! And second of all, damn! I didn’t know the Lumière brothers associated with fascists! Well that’s a shame to hear about, also I like how the brothers weren’t that passionate about cinema but George Méliès, who helped to pioneer fantasy and science fiction films in the 1900s, was, and he loved cinema despite how his career came to an end. I guess sometimes it’s the fans who help pioneer things rather than the original creators themselves.

    Thank you for the biodoc. Still hold Kubrick in great regard and many other great artists of literature, music and art. Many of which tread harder exploring human action & thought. They work and push hard, but always find a way to wrap the project up say it's done, and let the world enjoy it. And if you're Kubrick enough like the first part. You might even say you can do better 😉

    I think the last speech of The Great Dictator is not 3rd wall breaking at all. He is saying the things a left leaning charismatic leader would say to gain power but the result is still authoritarianism. This speech is still a satire but one that is less obvious.

    I actually remember learning how the first moving pictures were spinning devices with cartoons on them that moved while spinning by my grandmother who owned a similar toy. I find these moving pictures fascinating as it is the first depicted lives and actions ever recorded and shows a world not too different from ours.

    I don't care WHAT anybody says: Full Metal Jacket is MILES better than Platoon! So what if Oliver Stone is a combat Vet. FMJ has a timeless look/feel. It could pass as a movie released today it looks that Good! I can't watch Platoon anymore it looks too much like a 'B' movie. Face it, Platoon wouldn't have been so hailed if Ollie wasn't a "combat Vet" of which he is so fond of reminding everyone. Kubrick had a far better grasp of 'human nature'.

    • @vaughnmild4467
      @vaughnmild4467 Před 4 lety

      I've bounced back n forth with those 2 films. As a younger man I said Kubrick's film was better. Then Stone's film in my late 20 into my mid 30s. But now, coming up on 43, I conure. This is coming from a person who was a huge horror and Sci Fi fan that as a very young man that saw a picture of A Clockwork Orange in a Sci Fi film book in the 7th grade, and sought it out that weekend. The picture just leaped out of book at me. I'll nerver forget a photo from a movie that I had no idea what it was about could be interest me so much. I loved that movie from the jump! Well into my 2nd or 3rd year in high school my other so called" film buff" friends discover things I had been viewing for years now over and over. Ironicly, years later I came to fine out that Kubrick and I share the same Birthday.

    I noticed, Ridley Scott tried to parallel Kubrick's career in places. The Duellists was his Barry Lyndon. Gladiator was his Spartacus. ALIEN his 2001. Scott's cinematography is probably second only to Kubrick's. I am also a Ridley Scott fan.
