    I can’t believe that some People fall and hit their head over and over again. The best stove is promised omniful. You don’t need to change that and that and this and this when using different filler types like this stove or from Other brand. Simple change the nozzle with a tool in 5 seconds and then u are ready with another fuel type. You don’t need to change other stuff on the fuel bottle for using other fuel types. This is smart and clever in the field and not take out this and that. No people want to use from America want to do it the hard way that is not the best way.

    Quilts can be tied with cord or ribbon to create a sleeping bag of sorts, and the under-pad straps keep out most breezes. If I use my tent, I usually don't bother with the straps. On the other hand, long before I knew quilts were a thing, I just slept with my bag unzipped except a footbox... The only real diff is a modest amount of weight for a longer zipper in a bag. I utilize down jacket and pants for warmth and mosquito protection in camp, then top them off with an ultra light quilt to sleep. If needed, I wear down socks on my hands and down camp booties.

    Thank you so much for the video; it's very informative and helpful. I've been working on designing a tent similar to this, primarily due to the high price of the Plex Solo, which I can't afford. After checking the specs, I was wondering if this tent can only be set up with a 132 cm trekking or tent pole, or if it could also work with a 130 cm or 120 cm pole. Please advise.

    • @timbschwartz
      @timbschwartz Před 11 dny

    You “people”😂. Specifically the “north” west. Only people who live in the NW who say it rains a lot, are cally transplants. You people have DRAUGHTS in the summer. How can you say it rains a lot when you have droughts EVERY summer? 😂🎉 Come live in the true North West, what we Alaskans refer to as SOUTH East Alaska. You know, a rain forest. 🎉

    Cut or use a soldering iron to make a hole in the tent peak for the cord ends to pass thru. Sew or glue the cord ends inside to your prime structural paths, width or length and then glue seal around the loop with ShooGoo, if not a silnylon tent or a glue acceptable for silnylon. There are over eight methods for hanging the tent. Two of the simplest are use a ridge line between two trees and a cord from the ridge line to the tent loop or throw cordage over a tree limb and tie it to the tent loop.

    I wouldn’t use aluminum for any use of cooking food. If you can’t afford titanium, buy stainless steel. I have several camp mugs, stainless and titanium and to be honest I use my stainless steel mug, more often.

    I have a Tennier Industries surplus bivy cover that is superb! In a bag the total kit is 4 pounds. This is a Nylon Briefcase, two car sunshades, a large shower curtain liner and Camo Netting. Additional items I call ‘one ounce wonders’ are stuffed in pockets. A surplus sustainment bag with a shoulder strap added is for food and water. This combo will keep me safe, warm and dry anywhere anytime! I like mil-spec stuff and buy it whenever I can!

    Question: What sleeping pads are you using for your three sleeping bags? Do you use your winter pad all year round? A warm sleeping bag is useless if the pad below you is not warm enough, since the sleeping bag is compressed by body weight. I tried to find out what sleeping pad R-value is used for the ISO 23537 ... no real answer so far. [Edit]: I had to remove the links because yt would not post my comment. A user on reddit /r/Ultralight claims a R-Value of 4 is assumed (at REI). So if your pad is below that you already have to remove some degrees from your bag. mountain-equipment says: "The manikin lies in an air-conditioned room on a standardized sleeping mat. It wears standard pajamas and a cold protection mask" which is pretty useless (what sleeping mat? What is a standard pajama?) Montbell (e.g. Seamless Down Hugger 800 #0) says: "A full length mannequin covered “head to toe” with heaters and temperature sensors is outfitted with base layer top, bottom, hat and socks. The mannequin is place in the sleeping bag and both are put into a climate chamber. The mannequin is heated to simulate body warmth. The air temperature is measured in the chamber and on the surface of the mannequin. [....]" Not even mentioning a sleeping pad is required. I think it is ridiculous that brands are not clearly saying these details. Without saying otherwise you'd have to assume a COMF temp of 4°C means "naked in the bag" without a sleeping pad on the ground, which is obviously BS. Feels a bit like a SCAM.

    • @timbschwartz
      @timbschwartz Před 11 dny

    One of the biggest exaggerations with Ultralighters is the comment about "Heavy" Nalgenes. If I took a Nalgene bottle into a 1st grade classroom and asked each child, is this bottle "Heavy", my guess is 100% of the kids would say no, it's not "Heavy". In reality there is very little weigh savings it's all a myth. The ground sheet and sleep socks which you really don't need is going to weigh more than the weight savings of a Smart water bottle vs a Nalgene.

    • @FoxIord
      @FoxIord Před 24 dny

      I absolutely agree that sacrificing a Nalgene's absurd durability for maybe 3 oz of weight less is ridiculous. Ultralight influencers get bizarrely pretentious about not using Nalgenes. I am a big ground sheet person, but that's because I'm a tarp camper and not a tent camper so it's kinda necessary for my setup. I can't say I agree with socks being unnecessary though. A pair of socks used exclusively for sleeping really has done wonders for my sleeping experience.

    • @steveh5169
      @steveh5169 Před 22 dny

      @@FoxIord I get the groundsheet if you are using a tarp, I am too scared to try a tarp/groundsheet, plus if I am going solo, it's usually with dogs, so I always use a tent. I usually just sleep in the dirty socks or no socks at all. I'll be doing a weeklong trip in the wind river range, so I'll try out the "sleep sock".
