What are time drivers of work elements? Why - Why analysis in Time Study? Why is it taking the measured time? Why should we retain the method? Why not modify the method/motion and reduce time? Taylor's Time Study is to Reduce Element Time. #IndustrialEngineering #ProductivityEngineering #CostReduction #TimeStudy nraoiekc.blogspot.com/2013/08/time-study-by-fw-taylor.html

I'm confused - why you do equate the 5 levels with building a house? You don't submit each level to your customer, you submit whichever level they choose. Sometimes, for example with mass produced fasteners, a customer will likely just want a signed PSW as it's highly unlikely the production process produces much variance you need to worry about. On the other hand, if you're building, say, a winch for Ford, they will want all supporting documents down to packaging to make sure they get what they need. Ford would not ask for a level 1, then level 2, then level 3... I hope that's not what you meant.

Since my situation involves machines that only need to be interacted with if something goes wrong or needs to be changed over, I do record if they stop to talk to others, but I distinguish if them stopping actually interrupts their work. So passive talking (non interuptive talking while machine is running) is a sub category of idle

The large gear on the lift gate isn't the pinion. The pinion is the small gear beside the large gear. The large gear is the spur gear to the pinion above it to further reduce the ratio to allow hand cranking of the large gate.
