Has anybody mentioned GERD? I caused myself silent reflux by sucking in my stomach because of anxiety. I probably caused myself a hiatal hernia too due to the pressure.
So I’ve noticed when I sit I have a line for lack of a better word in my stomach where it folds and it’s the line of where my pants sit and after reading this I’m realizing I’m not crazy I’ve been thinking this the whole time… this is interesting

The pictures of the muscles that they are showing on the left hand corner is something that happens due to pregnancy. The muscles get separated from the growing of the baby, the moving or organs, and to making more room for the baby and its very common for those pregnant women. Dont believe everything you see on the internet folks, especially if it has to due with health.
😮 when I tell you that this realization started on Sunday for me, (23 June 2024), and I also had to process my momma wearing clothes this way and making me also wear clothes this way, and releasing that as improper wearing off clothes, it was liberating!! And I appreciate my partner in demonstrating this for me 😊 it's crazy how a lot of experiences are shared across the globe 😅
I've been thinking this must be causing some issues!
When I was eight years old, I got a hand me down T-shirt from my pretty popular girly girl, cousin, that I looked up to for her femininity, her fashion and just how much everyone loved her for being beautiful and feminine. It fit me just fine except my belly hung out the bottom a little bit. That was the day I learn to suck in my stomach. I haven’t stopped since and I am 31 now.
Y’all will do ANYTHING but exercise 😂
My mom always told me to suck it in. I’ve always had a flat belly. Even after four kids. And what it looks like you’re doing is the same thing. Stand up straight just like our granmamamas told us and suck it in. You’ll thank me later.

There is a serious difference between sucking your belly in, and engaging your core.

I actually heard that it's really bad for you to suck your stomach in it disproportions your organs by having them squeeze together and in the long run it can cause issues.
Activating your transverse abdominis is not unhealthy quite the contrary you're saving your lower back from taking all the load
Is this also useful for people that have never been pregnant? And if yes, what are the benefits?
C-section mama of 4 here! You are a rockstar and ladies this works even years later too do get to rubbing
I've been a Pilates teacher for years. A tight core (pelvic floor, lower abdominals, etc.. are very important.) The vacuum exercise, if that's what she's trying to do is a good exercise for strengthening the core. But it is absolutely NOT true that letting your gut hang out over your pants is good for the health of your core. It's actually very bad for your back. (Weak lower abs, pelvic floor) You need to pull your belly button into your spine and stand tall chest up. Maybe the video is just worded incorrectly for what she's trying to convey, but I would not follow any instruction this video is putting out there if you want a stable core, healthy pelvic floor and back. Do not follow.
I have a chronic belly illness and last year I ended up in the hospital because the pain was to much! After 24 hours on a IV (where I could give myself pain meds whenever I wanted) I walked trough the hospital and without nothing I felt the weirdest thing, it really felt like my belly was hanging on the floor (and I’m extremely skinny) but you know what I was?!? I stopped tensing my muscles! I was actually, because of the pain been tensing my muscles 24/7 for weeks!!! Was the craziest thing ever

I do this all the time to relieve back and stomach pains, I didn’t realize it was an actual thing. Gonna look into it now.

Actually it was my low waisted pants that messed up my colon and created a lower fat pouch.
I dont know if this is necessarily about high waisted clothes, but more about lifestyle and health choices. I only had these issues after i had kids.

So here's the thing. If you're used to being self conscious and sucking your belly in, you will but stress on your diaphragm and back muscles, and make it hard to get a full breath that relaxes you at all. So don't do it. Also if your high waisted stuff is too tight, it will put pressure on your guts. Get looser stuff. And finally, if you've had babies in your lifetime, know that some of the shit you see on the internet won't apply to you. It's okay. It doesn't have to be for you. (I've had twins, a lot of this stuff doesn't apply to me, so I promise you're not alone!) ❤❤

It's so stupid people think this is a cure all I never wear tight pants or suck in my stomach. This isn't gonna cure everything it claims to because many of these issues have many other causes
Or you could just pull up tight from your kegel to your sternum, pull your shoulders & head back, keep spinal alignment and walk/sit appropriately. Zero effort to keep good posture. Tons of effort to regain it.
Exercise and eat healthy. Sucking in actually helps strengthen the core also. High wasted pants don't cause belly issues, your lifestyle choices do
You are incorrect. Certain clothing can restrict the flow of things inside the body. Kinda like when you lay on your arm and it falls asleep. You CAN absolutely cause a delay or even something much more serious just by wearing something that alters your bodies natural rhythm.
High waisted pants are not causing the problem. Just work on deep core exercises.
My mom told me non stop growing up to suck in my gut, it gave me incontinence issues that I had to go to physiotherapy for. Apparently your bladder needs to expand somewhere.

This is HORRIBLE ADVICE. You will Cause yourself so many issues. Don't do it.
Most kids have no problems doing diaphragmatic breathing (letting their lower belly release to make room for lung expansion, how cool is that!) Adults wonder why they have so much upper body tension, Like My dude. You’ve only been breathing with your first and second rib.
I like to eat. I'll keep my pinch an inch.

Sucking it in actually helps the core muscles, tuck in your tailbone, bring your belly button to your spine, and make sure your doing the proper workouts, with proper form
You gym bunnies don't get it do you. It is NOT healthy to "suck it in all the time!" People get IBS & pain & constipation & more Keep your you think you know everything Gym bunny r.u.b.b.i.sh to yourself or move along!🙏
There's a difference between sucking your stomach in and engaging your core. When you suck in your stomach your chest puffs out and your ribs flare, but engaging your core tightens up your muscles and pulls the stomach in without flaring the ribs out (like in the video)
