    I've noticed that most Harmonica instructors start their lesson #1 , as You did, saying "Do not move your head to go from one note to the other, instead hold your head still and move the harmonica. " Yet after a few more lessons, the instructor is moving his head to go from one note to the other and holding the harmonica perfectly still; as You did in your lesson #5. 🤔💭

    Thank you...The first thing i discovered about chromatic harmonica is that if i play draw notes with the slider out, than following blow notes must be played with the slider in and vice versus...In general, it seems that everytime i change the breath pattern, it somehow also requires changing the position of the slider...I don't know if that is the right logic, i'm just playing by ear, but that realy creates various jazzy patterns/scales in somehow easier and natural way...There must be something on it when said that chromatic is more suitable for jazz and diatonic more for blues...Of course on both we can play anything, but i mean basicaly or at the first shot chromatic seems to be readymade for jazz and diatonic for blues...And yes, maybe I'm wrong...As i said, i play only by ear...

    • @kazhilly
      @kazhilly Před 5 měsíci

      Thanks for commenting. I don’t see any kind of logic in your “change breath - change slider”, it seems to me that this just gives you a kind of scale that you like. But hey, if you like playing that way, why not, it’s all fine.

    HI, HILBERT! Q U E S T I O N S , P L E A S E --- Great short video; great-sounding chromatic (I wonder what brand and model that harp is?). Which keys are the easiest to play in besides C and C# on a standard C chromatic?: Of course, C# would be no problem. Therefore, any tune played efficiently in the key of C can simply be played in C# (with the slide IN). For decades (averaging 2-3 hours a week) I've been playing all sorts of chromatic harmonicas, as well as diatonics less often (I've had a collection of Lee Oskar harps in every key and tuning). As you know, Hohner also offers their CX12, as well as 270, models in practically every key, but due to a lack of demand for non-C keys, manufacturers (in China, Japan, etc.) offer 90% of chromatics in only C (and, for example, in the case of the Chrometta-12, in G, too). Thanks, again, for the video and for answering my questions.

    • @kazhilly
      @kazhilly Před 9 měsíci

      Thanks for your comment. The model I play is the Suzuki SCT-128 Tremolo Chromatic. There are a few keys that are more difficult than others, like D major and Bb major, mostly because they consist of mostly draw notes, B major because it’s quite rare and not used often, but most keys are quite easy once you get used to them. E major is surprisingly easy, but also F, G and A major are easier than you may be thinking. And because it can be difficult to find Chromatics in different keys, it’s better to learn how to play those keys on your C chromatic. All I can say here is Just Try it, and find your easiest keys.

    • @kazhilly
      @kazhilly Před rokem

      Well spotted Lee. It depends on the type of chord harmonica. The one I play here has No valves, and the blow chords are at the top and the draw chords at the bottom, so what I use here is lip-blocking; blocking the draw chord with my bottom lip whilst playing the blow chord, and vice versa. It is a Very different harmonica from the Hohner, and it needs a different playing technique, with lip blocking.

If I for example buy a Non-Slider Chromatic now in Bb and go to a beginner course in Harmonia where the teacher and other students play a diatonic in C can I still follow along in the class and not disturb anyone and still learn?? How to best understand all this about Keys? thank you! I really liked the Non-Slider Chromatic and found in for a better price than new but only in Bb and not in C.. @kazhilly Před rokem

      On a harmonica in Bb, hole 1 blow, or “Do” is a Bb note, On a harmonica in C, hole 1 blow or “Do” is a C note. The harmonica can be Tuned to different keys. A Key is basically a tone ladder or a scale that can start on any note. The easiest way to understand this is if you know your “do re mi fa so La ti do”, and the Do is the name of the Key or scale, Do is the Root note. Not sure if that makes sense, or if this helps you?? It’s only important if you want to learn how to read music and play in different keys on your chromatic.

      @@SimplicityForGood Nothing to do with bending, All notes on the chromatic scale are just there on your harmonica, just just have to learn how to find them- which hole, blow or draw, and whether or not to press the slider button. Nice to see you again too Dana, it’s been a while, I hope you are well. Personally, and maybe you would call it “sadly” maybe, I don’t do jazz… to be honest, I actually despise jazz with a passion. If you want to learn jazz, there are Much better jazz teachers out there than I am. Having said that, through my involvement in HarmonicaUK, I can put you in touch with someone if you like???

    nice to see your back…problem is young folks can’t afford to start chromatic harmonica as a first time instrument…diatonic yes…good luck

    • @kazhilly
      @kazhilly Před rokem

      I’m afraid I have to disagree with you here Dana, it’s not the price or cost; especially with prices of diatonics going through the roof nowadays, you can buy a chromatic for a similar price to a diatonic. The main problem is that young people are not familiar with Chromatics and they have No idea what to do with them, whereas CZcams is Flooded with tutorials for diatonics.

      @@kazhilly your right that some low end chromatic harmonicas are available and a great place to start…you should get more 30 year olds on those to start as well

      @@danagreen6518 I’d Love to see that happen, honestly. But let’s face it, what’s out there for chromatic harmonicas…?? Not much really, there are very few Really Good players out there that Speak to younger people in a way that makes them Want to try a chromatic. That’s the biggest challenge. And another challenge is looking at chromatic players abroad; the chromatic is HUGE in Asia, but their music style is usually too “clinical” and “academic”. Someone like Cy Leo is trying to change that, but he is pretty much on his own… Then, Chromatics are also Very Big in India. But their music style also doesn’t “connect” with us Westerners either. Again, a player like Shubranil Sarkar (I hope I spelled that correctly…) is making a Welcome difference, but even players like Shubranil and Cy Leo can’t just change the world between them………. We need More chromatic harmonica players at a Good level that can convince people to choose that instrument.

    Love the videos! In one you recommended a lubricant for lips on the harmonica, but now I can't find it. Would you mind reminding me what kind of oil it was?
