The Detroit roll. When you start it up I was in the parts department where they rebuilt these engines and they would put it on the diameter and Chester horsepower and everything God it was so beautiful
I have a 1974 Paystar5000 with this same Engine. It starts up fine but it wants to creep up in temperature, is anyone here that could tell me what will it take to keep it in cooler parameters? One other thing it's oil pressure is at on the lower side. Like 8 psi at an idle. And feedback will be appreciated. Thanks
makes you wonder what the Crecy's ungodly roar would have been. it was a 12 cilender 2 stroke PETROL engine. apparently could be heard lound and clear 15 km away.
I love the old Detroits. I never got the chance to drive one. One another note I hope this man still teaches. I had a couple in my life. When they can get can get you get you excited learning is fun!
If you take a picture of a Detroit and hang it on the wall the next morning there will be oil on the floor underneath it lol great motors they still use them in the boating industry and getting 8k hours out of em.
Pretty cool. What a beast. The pollution on the street with these 2 stroke monsters must have been horrendous. Also, it might have a lot of tech in it, but the new 4 stroke engines combine all this old tech with new manufacturing techniques and electronics to increase power and efficiency many fold.
I love this. Reminds me of Mr. Jones, my 5th grade Metal Shop teacher. I learned everything I know about working with metal from Mr. Jones back in 1977, 78 and 79. And I still work with metal to this day. I'm 54 years old now. Thank you Mr. Jones and thank you Mr. Keith Wright for posting this video.
Wait a minute. 2 stroke diesels are no longer allowed anywhere in US? Well, except on the water I guess... I guess they forgot to tell the plethora of old boat owners out there, still running these Detroit 8-71’s and also 6-71’s in the marine version. My 53ft Chris Craft’s equipped with twin, 6-71, Detroits. A good motor and I love them.
This is a good teacher

Bald guys with shiny head a mustache and glasses should never be trusted
I'd love to see that motor Built up with a turbo and a nice set of stacks ! An Old school Peterbilt or Mack !
Our town had a Transit company with busses Detroit 6v92 powered. You never wanted to get stuck behind one.
Saw this video many moons ago as a teen. Now I have one as an adult. Truly dreams do come true. Thank you Keith.
Damn no one even said dirtbike when he asked what theyve seen 2 strokes in
Yeah, sounds like a supercharged engine
an IDIOT IS BLOWING THEM UP on yt. KT403E or similar name
Very knowledgeable thank you
Detroit is an engine that converts diesel fuel into noise
Awesome!
Amazing!!!
Nice!!!!!!! Great sound!
Those people look like they don't want to be there.

F*** California for making it illegal to run these historic beasts.

America needs a lot more teachers like this man. 👍🏼
The idle audio is something outa a scary movie 🤤 aggressive lope
True you can't run them in California (soon it will be illegal to fart in cali) but you run them in other states
What a fantastic display, i really like this demonstration.

Loved these engines and their sound!
Uhm,you can still operate that engine in other states then commifornia,if you can find parts
Starts it at 4:58
We still have these running in our fire trucks at airports in Australia. Beautiful sound when they rush off to the tarmacs for drills.
This is a fantastic video for learning!!!!

One of the most efficient engines. In converting diesel oil into noise and smoke
Only good sounding two strokes in the world. Petrol ones always sound shit.
I used to drive an old Kenworth cabover with a Detroit diesel two stroke in it!! Thing would just scream down the road!!!
what is the mpg compared to modern engines?
Coolest engine ever built...after the merlin!

Love that sound! Sounds like an oil field pulling unit pulling rods out of the ground.
For those of us with adhd 4:59
They used those Detroit engines in everything from motor coaches, boats, generators and earth moving equipment.
If it's too loud your too fuckin old! Lol
I ran a sawmill with an 8 71v - nothing could slow it down!

Illegal to use, you say? *LAUGHS IN TEREX*
U don't run 318 without the covers on the rockers it's a good way to make it run away I know I have had several do it
To many kids talking

He is wrong on some things. It’s not illegal to run in the us It was made illegal by the epa to manufacture them any more. My old eagle bus runs one
Do they still run this engine
This guys moustache matches the screaming jimmy.
