Love this one!
Dear Colley i love your art and I'm a brissy local too... i wanted to just suggest that its very good to add a wood sealant that you get from bunnings just a coat or 2 on both sides before you add the gesso coats... the sealant will just prevent any oil from seeping into the mdf board and making the bonds weaker over time... you just want collectors to hold on to your paintings as long as possible as your artworks are collectors choice.. . brisbane weather is absolutely horrible and moisture is unpredictable around the year so sealant will prevent the mdf from rotting
I lov duck
Thank you for the studio tour I found it very helpful. You didn't mention anything about ventilation do you have a filter or windows that open, because I understand that you use quick drying mediums?
I have a ceiling fan and a window on the far wall for proper ventilation in my space.
Well done, what a beautiful painting, great result. Bit of a travel nightmare eh...
A little bit, but we made it. Thanks for watching.
My goodness, you did so well, using others equipment and feeling poorly. Love the painting, thank you so much for another fab video. I hope you are feeling 100% better very soon
Thanks Margaret, already feeling better
Oh isn’t Florence sublime and such a view! Your painting glows with light. And I love how one brushstroke conveys so much. Sorry you’re not well though, get well soon! And the ups n downs of travelling …. when I was a student visiting Florence the atms were down for a couple of days so I couldn’t get any money out- had to busk to get enough money for meals, and slept on the train to Siena and back! At least you’re in the warmth… Blizzards here this weekend in my part of Oz. Hope the rest of your trip goes smoothly and look forward to more videos!
Thanks Leanne, sounds like equally had a tough time.
Спасибо, Colley ! Очень интересная работа и интересный опыт ! Желаю успеха !
Very difficult subject with realism. For multiple buildings with distance I find Mark Lague is amazing. Hope you can refer to . Ibelieve his canvases are much larger. Sorry to hear about the ordeals, not much fun and you looked worn out.
Incredible ❤
Great to see how things appear fromnowhere. Excellent.
I appreciate your very informative videos on your tips and tricks to do with painting…Thank you immensely. Lorraine.
Thanks Lorraine.
Such a great composition Colley, I just found you at noon today and I’m totally excited with your videos. You are truly a great artist and pedagogue. 😊
OmG! Such a great tutorial, so many great nuggets . And to click on this video and see this place only a few hrs from where I was born. Would you consider organizing a painting workshop in this castello? ! ? I would be first on your list . Grazie mille! 😊I
Maybe one day soon, just keep an eye on my website: www.colleywhisson.com
Thank you for such an extremely informative talk. Every painting is a rehearsal . Looking forward to more! 😊
Wow, so happy I just found you. Love the way you explain your steps & your honesty. Yes , I am grateful to those who tell me that I’m off here or there. I have only one question, a subject that I need to practice . What colors did you mix for the shadow of the tree and would it be the same as the shadow on the side of the cement wall leading to the door ? And which green do you have on your palette? thank you from Quebec,🇨🇦
Magnifique !!! Pourriez vous m’indiquer le médium que vous utilisez . En vous remerciant
Archival Oils, Fast Drying, Lean Medium
Love it Colley!
Great demo, thank you so much, so subtle . Loved seeing your palette, seeing how your tonal differences are so slight on the palette before you apply to the work.
Thanks Margaret.
Fantastic lesson demo. Thanks for putting your time into this work. Best takeaway for me is “not to jump from one paint mix to another”
I did enjoy watching this.
Nice. Sitting here in New Zealand on a cold winter morning, having breakfast and watching your video.
Sitting here in Quebec in my air conditioned kitchen because of a stifling two weak heat wave. 😅
Wise words from one of the world's finest artists.
Thanks James, glad you took something away from the video.
You are really rocking the videos Colley! Loved it. What a beautiful place for artists to paint. I have fond memories of painting in Italy many years ago. Enjoy your time with your students and easel.
Thank you for your teachings.
Nice drawing! Yes, not surprised that "modern" art schools don't teach it much anymore since most teachers could not draw well anyways. So important for architecture, like you did, and figures too of course. Not doing much lately as I paint mostly plein air landscapes here in AZ and use those in studio as refs. when it gets too hot. And "I dive into paint", rather than do thumbnails; but did a whole bunch of detailed drawings when I mostly painted animals, because you "simply have to", to be accurate. And they are just figures too, just other species of animals from we "apes"!! LOL ;D
great as always!! Keeping things fresh and interesting
Can't wait!!
Beautiful ❤️
you can also do voice overs you know apart from a painting career :D...lol you have a superb voice..
Yes!
Great video, thanks
You certainly get around. Good video.
Can’t wait to see what paintings come of this. Enjoy Italy!
Очень большая голова у коровы разве вы не видите
Great video!
Awesome, as ever.
Just curious if there's a non Apple equivalent to use with Windows? I'd love to buy an iPad Pro and Procreate but it's a stretch on pension. Thanks, Ted Hawkes
You can buy Photoshop and a Wacom tablet or equivalent for Windows, it won’t be quite the same as an iPad, but it’s a great starting point.
@@colleywhissonartist Thank you for the information Colley. I will check them both out. Best Regards, Ted Hawkes
thx for the video .. i actually prefer days that are grey ,to bright sunny days , many times.. i love subdued color palettes and really enjoy trying to find all the gorgeous colors in those subtle greys .. to me, sunny bright days are too " perfect", almost boring for me.. thx as always.. nora kag
Thanks Colley, great informative video, beautiful location ❤
Glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you colley , another great video, I wasn’t expecting snow as a subject in June , haha, thoroughly enjoyed it, thank you for sharing
It is almost Christmas in July; thanks for watching.
Well Colley, it's hard to believe you went all the way to Vermont in winter and did not paint on site. Shocking actually!! Maybe you did; so, let's see those next time. Snow subjects were some of the most "iconic" paintings by great American artists of the past, like Aldro Hibbard, who painted in the very paces you trod upon. And now no doubt you loaded up with photos of cute little houses, on snowy ground. Yes, it's damned cold to stand outside and paint for 2-3 hours, as I did may times in the Lake Tahoe region, in below freezing temps, but you will see things you never could in the studio as you look at those photos and make up stuff on your computer. Come on man, you look strong and young enough to do it! What waste of time to do winter-scapes indoors. And here's a tip folks, those who know will spot those a mile away in the galleries, they always look fake, at least to me. Your statements about blue shadows in snow versus yellow ones in sand may be generally true but my God man the whole rainbow spectrum of light is reflect off of snow, and you could never possibly get that down in a painting unless you get yourself out there and paint it from life. Ok, then you can do studio works from the oil sketches you made outdoors, "that's the ticket" for more "realistic" snow paintings! Other than that little rant, LOL, cheers from beautiful southern Arizona where I live now! And yes, it's bloody hot out here now, so I am in the studio working on pictures from my plein air sketches I did in the fall and winter here, where there is not much snow to paint, like there was when I lived in Northern California!! LOL ;D
Excellent advice. So often we have cloudy overcast days; no shadows, no lovely blue skies. So, addressing variety in subject matter allows me to think you understand my needs. Thanks so much, Colley!❤
Glad it was helpful.
@@colleywhissonartist Yup, this vid was as "helpful" as a dose of Covid, dude!! LOL ;D
I really appreciate these videos and generous advice. I consider myself a fair painter but always looking to get better.
We improve every day we pickup the brush, thanks for watching and best of luck.
Very astute collection IMO. I can see why you chose those paintings. All beautiful, painterly and masterful as are yours.
Thanks Kayleen.
Thanks for sharing your space Colley
Any time, thanks for watching.
Thank you for your generosity and sharing of this beautiful piece of art with your followers. Amazing work.
Excellent tips there Colley , thank you for the video, much appreciated
I really wish I didn't see that Ayn Rand book on your shelf 😬
I’ve only ever been a fan of the Fountainhead, its story, not the authors politics.
?
@@colleywhissonartist even so, it's hard to gauge just from seeing a book on a shelf. Anything even vaguely political is going to elicit responses from viewers and that's not a great thing generally. If you indeed were a fan of Ayn Rand I'd be disappointed, but there's not much I can do about that. I love and respect your work nonetheless.
Enjoying your videos, thanks!
Could I ask why not…… I’ve just briefly looked up her philosophy……and her history…… Was her life about …..rowing her own canoe……
