    • @vetnpetDIRECT
      @vetnpetDIRECT Před 5 dny

      Hi, Although we do not sell Frontline Shield I can see on the Frontline website it says the following; FRONTLINE Shield for Dogs is typically considered acceptable for use in breeding, pregnant, and lactating dogs when used according to the manufacturer’s instructions. However, it’s always a good idea to consult with your veterinarian before using any flea or tick control product on a pregnant or lactating dog, as individual circumstances may vary. Your veterinarian can provide specific guidance based on your dog’s health and needs to ensure the proper use and effectiveness of the product during these life stages. I hope this helps :) Bec

    Are pet dog was recently diagnosed mitral valve disease as well. he is 13 years old and The vet basically recommended that he would be on maintenance meds for his heart as well as his hypertension. we only discovered this when we noticed that he was full all the time even though he didn't eat much. We then discovered that his belly was filled with water and an ultrasound revealed that his heart was weak he had other issues but we had to deal with the fluid build up. He started with diuretics got rid of the excess water and then really started eating specific food for his heart unfortunately whenever he was off his diuretics after a week we noticed the buildup of fluid again so yeah that's it. Even then he acted like it's nothing he would run just like he always did so it was hard to detect at first. We only discovered it when the belly looked like it was full all the time like he ate a lot all the time. He's still a very good boy just like any other good doggo. It's just sad how it's easy to miss especially if you don't really come close to your pets. It's been a month since he was diagnosed we continue with this meds and he is still a very good boy. We honestly try to not exhaust him anymore so whenever we do walks he always have a carrier with him. Always being monitored we still take him anywhere we go because you know we understand that maybe his time is limited. So he gets the best out of this world

    Does FLUTD cause incontinence and diarrhea in cats?

    • @vetnpetDIRECT
      @vetnpetDIRECT Před 20 dny

      Hi, Thank you for the question. FLUTD can cause urinary incontinence especially in that they are often straining or just urinating very small amounts, sometimes not in their litter box. It doesn't tend to cause faecal incontinence or diarrhoea directly. Sometimes cats will strain to urinate and then poop by default. And stress of any kind could cause diarrhoea, so FLUTD and urinary issues can cause a great deal of stress and discomfort for the cat. If your cat is having incontinence issues or diarrhoea please consult your veterinarian as soon as possible for a diagnosis.

    Can you please tell me what length is too long? I have 2 elder cats aged 15 and 16 and my only concern for their nails is so it doesnt bother them. So sould it be trimmed or not? 😅

    • @vetnpetDIRECT
      @vetnpetDIRECT Před měsícem

      Hi, The main thing to take into consideration if they are comfortable. If they are curling around and close to the cats pads then absolutely they need to be trimmed. If they are getting caught on furniture, carpet or bedding they need to be trimmed. Overly long nails might affect your cats' ability to walk comfortably, especially if they have arthritis or other mobility issues common in senior cats. It's generally recommended to check their nails every few weeks and trim them if they're getting long. Just be cautious not to trim too close to the quick (the blood vessel inside the nail), as this can be painful and may cause bleeding. Overall, keeping their nails trimmed is a good way to ensure their comfort and well-being in their senior years. I hope this helps. :) Bec

    I saw that on the package of the dog’s flea treatment, it warns against cats accidentally coming into contact with it, but I don’t see the same warning towards dogs on the flea treatment for my cats. Why is the dog treatment so much worse for cats than the cat treatment seems to be for dogs?

    • @vetnpetDIRECT
      @vetnpetDIRECT Před 2 měsíci

      Hi, Good question! The main reason that dog flea treatments are not to be used on cats is that many flea treatments for dogs contain ingredients that are safe for dogs but toxic to cats. For example, some dog flea treatments contain permethrin, which is safe for dogs but highly toxic to cats. Cats lack a specific enzyme in their liver that is necessary to metabolise certain chemicals, including permethrin, leading to toxicity when applied to them. Also, dogs and cats differ in size and metabolism, which means they require different dosages of flea treatment chemicals, using the incorrect product can lead to an overdose. I hope this helps explains that for you. :) Bec

    • @georgettethorsnes9626
      @georgettethorsnes9626 Před 2 měsíci

      @@vetnpetDIRECT so between dogs being larger (in general) and having more capable immune systems, essentially, they can take on more chemicals that are toxic to cats and cats immune systems are more fragile, so anything that is used on a cat would more likely be safe for a dog as well? (Maybe “immune system” isn’t quite the correct term, but close enough to the idea for me to understand) thank you!!

If they are still able to get to the spot-on when placed between the shoulder blades or high on the neck, you could try using an elizabethan collar around the neck just while the medication dries for a few hours. You could also try other options like a flea collar in combination with worming tablets. I hope this helps.

      Hi, Thank you for your question. There would likely only be a small amount of transfer from the neck to the foot and then they may even walk it off before licking it. If your cat does happen to scratch the area and it is still wet and then they immediately lick their foot you may see some of those mild symptoms listed by Dr Glenn in the video, but they should subside relatively quickly. The spot-on will dry within a few hours and shouldn't be a problem. I hope this helps :) Bec

Simparica Trio has weight ranges of Large Dogs 20.1-40kg or Extra Large Dogs 40.1kg to 60kg, and they then receive one tablet monthly. Being that you are saying your dog is approximently 40kg I would get an exact weight on them to ensure you are getting a dose that will adequately cover your dog. You do not want to under-dose them as the efficacy of the tablet may be reduced and potentially put them at risk. I'm not sure if this was asked yet, but where did you purchase the purple dog food bowl feeding station? That will be perfect for my dog. TYIA.

    I've gotten this for my 3 anxious cats - we are moving houses next week! I just fed them their first dose as a "trial run" (so I don't have to deal with surprise issues/reactions on the day itself) - curious to see what it'll do.

      You could also look at a product called Feliway which is often very helpful at reducing anxiety when moving. You can find it here in our online store >> www.vetnpetdirect.com.au/collections/feliway Good luck with the move.

    hi which one is best for a maltese dog who is 5kg for the trio 1kg-5kg pack or 5kg-10kg . thanks

      @vetnpetDIRECT Před 5 měsíci

      HI, If they are right on 5kg I would go the 5-10kg, just in case they put on any weight. They do have a very wide safety margin so they should be fine. I hope this helps :) Bec
