Congo's Call of the Wild
zhlédnutí 531Před 4 lety
In an age when zoonotic diseases have paralyzed the planet, Congo's Call of the Wild examines an outbreak threatening our closest primate relatives, the bonobos. Bushmeat hunters entering their reserve have inadvertently spread human diseases, but as today's pandemic shows diseases can go either way. The hour long documentary also looks at efforts to protect Africa's largest rainforest - Congo'...

The proposed 1000 megawatt coal fired power plant in Kenya's remote Lamu county would have severely impacted the people and environment of this pristine region, but in June 2019 a Kenya court canceled its environmental license. It was a great victory for scientific truth and community activism, primarily organized by the Save Lamu coalition. Investors like China's ICBC have now pulled out of th...

In the dramatic conclusion of Salonga: Africa's Biggest Rainforest we focus on Congolese eco-guards on an anti-poaching mission. Rare antelopes, monkeys, and even leopards are all on the menu and unfortunately goods for the commercial market. Conservationists are also trying to wean the local community from the bushmeat trade by promoting a more sustainable way to survive.
Salonga: Africa's Biggest Rainforest

Salonga National Park is bigger than Belgium, the Congo’s former colonial ruler, yet few people have heard of it. An estimated 80,000 elephants once roamed Salonga’s forests. After decades of poaching, only elephants 1,800 remain, but the forest is largely intact. To save this world heritage site, Congolese authorities are co-managing the park with WWF, using both a carrot and stick approach. 3...
Crocodiles of Tana

They have a fearsome reputation in Kenya, but crocodiles are now being raised by the tens of thousands for the international skin trade. Traditional communities in Kenya’s Tana River delta are allowed to harvest the eggs, which are then grown in commercial crocodile farms in Mombasa and Malindi. But is the community benefiting from the trade, and who is looking out for the animals’ well being?

Pangolins are toothless gentle creatures that feed on insects using their tongue. Unfortunately their protective scales are made from keratin, just like rhino horns. Elephants, the largest land animals, are majestic creatures. But farmers here see them as lumbering pests. Human-wildlife conflict in Kenya is becoming a bigger threat to elephants than poachers. Again the areas around those water sources tree planting should b raised slowly by slow to capture back favourable climatic atmospheres. N.B the projects should b supervised well not to give an enemy called corruption a chance of surviving for the communities to benefit and minimise cases of deaths of pple and perishing of livestock
