I had to expand the dump too was hitting the flange which was too narrow, was boisting 15psi then 9 when stock is meant to be 6psi pretty is with drill and dies. 😀

I bought a miata block recently with the pistons removed. The guy gave up. He numbered the pistons but didnt remember which way he numbered it. Does mazda number or have something that says which pistion goes where? Would save me a ton on getting it honed and getting new rings.

This is awesome! I’m close to initial startup of my L28ET 240Z with some protunerz goodies and a maxpeeding rods T3 billet turbo, I’m very skeptical of the wastegate that came on the turbo so I’ve enabled boost cut on my standalone for 11psi. If this mod really does help you are a genius and I owe you a beer 😂

Ever torque the low torque specification as the lock tite might at as a lube upon installation? If the hight torque is used ya might just be over torquing. most torque specifications are calibrated for dry threads unless noted.

The RTV under the front caps really only needs to be towards the outer edges. It only serves to bridge the gap between the cam seal and the RTV in the corner for the valve cover gasket. If the RTV squeezes out on the actual cam journal where the cam rotates, it can cause damage and further leaks.

In the piston ring install video previous to this one, you note that the groove on the piston rod goes towards the front. Yet, in this video, you are installing the groove towards the back. Which way should it be.

Definitely not the right way to coat vehicle parts. Black oxide is a very weak protectant. If you want to do this right use something stronger that will actually protect and last.

I've been back into my Wrench VR game lately so good timing to see a new vid on here. Wrench is a wonderful simulation of the Miata kit-building process, focusing on the Exocet as well as a Catfish. It's great that you have the entire building process documented here, which is a fantastic supplement to the VR experience that is a bit watered down compared to the actual thing. It only simulates mainly suspension, engine, and body panels and omits wiring and line-building. It is beautifully detailed though, with every nut, bolt, and torque spec. Just wondered if you knew this was out there, here's a review of both the desktop and VR version (the latter being highly recommended). The amazing thing to me about black oxide to me is how robust the finish is. I don't use it in cars, I actually use it while refurbishing old or corroded zinc fishing reel gears. I've taken them apart after many hours of use where the gears are meshing under pressure and the teeth of the gears show no sign of the black oxide fading or chipping. The absolute key to this is the cleaning process before the black oxide. I tend to go pure water ultrasonic followed by brake cleaner and often multiple rounds of that. Boiling TSP is an interesting idea and I'm going to give that a go. If the part is perfectly clean it's as simple as just dropping it in the solution. I then actually just wipe them down with WD and let them dry a few times until the oil has soaked into the black oxide. Simple process with very good results.

My miata has two identical solid white wires coming out of that connector. Are the both power? My miata is a 93

Hey mate is it much heavier than stock? Putting a 1.8 driveshaft into my turbo 1.6, thinking of going with the aluminium one from shaft masters as I’m guessing this steel one will weigh more than stock, and I don’t want to lose any power. Thanks
