What?? I started with bees! I love them and they are SO easy and make SO much money! I only have to look at them once every two weeks and a majority of the year I dont have to even feed them. Nice bee jacket and no stings either.

I'm not tough enough, and I recognize it. Off grid would be fine for me if we're talking about a cabin with limited power that comes from solar or generator. If we're truly talking about washing clothes in the creek and hauling water for a bath.....no thanks.

What i think- You do not just take yourself, a wife,.and 6 kids to a place like Alaska and say "Here we are. Now we will survive". There are preps to make and honestly i mean nothing bad here, i saw some huge probs. One, the unpredictability of Alaska. Summer? It is never what they say. The heat/warmth/ cooking area should have been covered before leaving the grid. Generators & solar are the options for power/light/conmunications. All of this you should bring with you. Note: i give major props to channel "Will Survives"... a 21 yr old dude who left the grid to build his own cabin, plant a garden, attempt ducks & chickens to raise, in Western NM mountains. Will has taught me TONS of stuff you need to know and do. Thus whole survival business requires a certain aptitude. Basics must be covered in mind before any adventure begins! Especially if you care for and bring along, others. For sure, its all about learning by experience. I plan to go off grid myself soon... I know i will be ok, because i am still learning, and still striving for a better life. You are too. So Godspeed and i hope you do! 🎉

Great content, well made. I have to say, to be honest, this homesteading movement doesn't make muchnsense to me. You can drop social media and television, and make a concerted effort to be more in touch with nature, without having to live like were still in the 1800s. Feels a bit like chasing an idealised myth of the past.

kids too young ...got give you kudos for taking chance on a dream ....that is not easy living and to do it with young kids too is just a lot of stress ..... it is better to move on for sake of the family ... However i dont rule out that you guys might be back at that once the kids gone uni and having better success then wiser and less stressed

As a Beekeeper, that one really surprised me. I honestly wouldn't think they'd get much more difficult than a fish. Yes I Koi fish too. Very low maintenance, very low costs compared to all the others. They are very self sustained animals, check their hives for parasites and they are good. I live in mid Sweden so there isn't really any predators that'll destroy the hives.

I came here because I just watched a CZcams short from a guy who said it's "cancer", and basically scammed the grocery store into giving him a whole chicken replacement for free. The comments were roasting this guy *hard,* which was hilarious, but there were some people genuinely trying to educate him and the rest of us on DPM. Anyway, thanks for the info.
