This song always gets a lump in my throat especially when accompanied by bagpipes. I'm not even Scottish, I'm a Sassenach. I must have been Scottish in a past life, the bagpipes have always been amazing to me. Sláinthe.

Mi piace anche affermare che l'autore potrebbe tranquillamente trasformare questo suo pezzo musicale in una poesia, proprio del genere che a me piace tanto.

Mi ricorda un po' lo stile di Luigi Tenco. Mi piace molto questo pezzo di Michele O., un artista che si propone in campo musicale, questa volta. Io ne riconosco la sua poliedricità e man mano che passa il tempo, ho sempre di più la consapevolezza e la coscienza che un artista manifesta presto la sua innata capacità di palesare le sue doti particolari, non comuni a tutti. Un grande applauso a Michele, nei cui confronti io ho sempre nutrito una forte stima.

When I was a kid my family saw Dougie in a tiny bar in Oklahoma City. Probably only 10 -12 people there. 1982 or 1983. Amazing to see such artist in such an intimate setting.

Irene aveva solo ventisette anni. Mi arrivò la notizia mentre ero alle tastiere e la canzone nacque spontaneamente, di getto. Musica e parole uscirono insieme e ci vollero solo un paio di sovraincisioni per completarla. La parte cantata fu aggiunta immediatamente e decisi di tenerla così, come un'improvvisazione per non togliere nulla di quello che era lo stato d'animo di quel momento. La parte ritmica che va da sé e non sostiene la sezione strumentale, né vocale, sottolinea lo sgomento e l'assenza di una logica e di un "tempo" che, fuori dalla vita, non ha più ragione d'essere: un "metronomo impazzito".

Très grand morceau et très grand solo final. Waow !!!

Good song, but I've always been perplexed by the mention of Pickett's Charge in this, a song about the lead-up to WWII. Pickett's Charge is a US Civil War reference. What gives here? Is Al using Pickett's Charge as a metaphor of sorts? His historical pieces are usually spot on for accuracy, so I assume it's intentional, but don't know why.

Very special track, a classical attempt, with the intro sample of "space sounds" adding a touch of modernity. Steve has become a real master of the classical guitar over the years, after mastering the electric guitar... He should be recognized as a composer for this instrument, by the way, as much as a player. Hardly anybody composes for classical guitar... and he did 5 essential studio albums of pure acoustic beauty.

I have always been deeply moved by Dougie MacLean's songs. Now I know why as I just found out recently that my ancestors came to North Carolina from the Isles of Skye and Lewis. I have found my home! Hope to return as a grandson to visit Skye and Lewis. Yes, the music also runs in my blood! Check my tunes!
