This is the Forth of many Framework 16 Videos I was in the very early batch of the Framework 16 inch laptop being shipped. I bought it with my own money based off of how much I liked my Framework 13 inch. I spent quite a bit on this laptop, so If was going to be a high end laptop I wanted to upgrade the RAM and NVMe to also be at the high end. We After having it for a week, I upgraded the RAM a...

This is literally just a raw video of me, taking apart the keyboard and rearranging it. I’ve been a fan of the framework laptops, and my full unboxing video and review will be online shortly .

Mate, the spaces and keyboard have pull tabs. No need to use your nails.
This is awesome, thanks for showing
Amazing video! Loved it. No need for finger nails, black pull tabs instead. Much easier. :)
I see the module connectors are USB-C so can't you use those holes as a normal USB-C?
Сотни видосов про этот ноутбук и абсолютно на каждом все собирают стандартный вариант. Ноутбук даёт видимо то что никому и не нужно с этой модульностью клавиатуры
Ive gone into the process completely blind. Never watched a video to put it together. I wanted to truly test it. And its easier than i imagined. Amazing design work.
Hey I’m 19 years old I always wanted to break into tech. I saw someone talk about Linux sys admin and tbh I don’t know where to start. Can you please guide me which programs I should start on so I can learn. Thank you!!
Where can you NOT install the usb C ? I currently have all USB C and just don’t want to install one in the wrong area for now.
I'm sure you've figured it out by now, but you can install USB C modules in all 6 slots, but some of them will be USB 4 speed and some will be USB 3.2 speed
MacBook doesn’t lift off. Apple better
My screws on the same model look diffrent. It's a tiny hole and flat. I can't get into this thing.
Can you do 4 panels color shift?
Thanks for the vid, would have liked to have seen you boot it up etc... Never seen an SSD taken apart like that, i found this vid because I'm thinking about upgrading the RAM to 32GB, but like you, installing an SSD puts me off because of reducing the air flow, now I would definately do the same as you, thanks!
I love you
bravoo
Great tips !
Glad you think so!
I don’t get the obsession with installing so many games tbh.
It a good amount of games. It works for me.

The mouse pad module so unnecessarily wide? Does give a lot of placement options. Is it possible for the pogo pins to support a 2nd monitor in place of the numpad?
I am looking forward to see what the community will come up with, Including different touchpads and side pannels.
How is the performance on battery? there is a big loss of performance?
Ok, that is a big question. What is your use cases? Is there one you would like me to test? Light web browsing? Gaming on a AAA Game?
@@Jscar_Hawk Hello, I would like to know what noise the fan makes playing AAA games like cyberpunk at 1080 p and 60 fps on high and medium. I would also like to know the gaming performance on battery. I would also like to know if the fans can be controlled with msi afterburner Thanks
Who wants a 16 inch laptop
I voted with my wallet! It's not my daily driver currently. I still have my Framework 13 inch for that. I Treat the 16 inch as a desktop replacement or home lab machine.
Hey, justso you know: When you are changing the layout of the Top Row, you can pull the black taps to get the modules out. BTW I love your Videos about the Framework Laptop 16 and I am planning on buying one myself.❤
Yeah, I only realised you can flip and pull the black tapes after seeing it in Linus's video. Some of the magnets are way too strong.
Just looked for this video to know if packaging of this laptop can be used to resend it as I bought it with delivery to my sister in other country and she has to send it too me. It easy enough to assemble as I did it with my sister over video call and she's is not techy :)
Awesome, I am glad to hear that it helped!
By default rhel9 install gnome v40. How do you install it 44 ?
With Arch Linux being a rolling release, it should work great with such a device. I use RichARCH btw. With it I was able to get Arch Linux up and running simply and quickly with kickstart like automation features.

Aber herunterfallen lassen sollte man das Dingsi da nicht. Ein Spielzeug halt.
I had to look up a translation. Your comment come back as "But you shouldn't let the thingy fall down. Just a toy." It is a heavy toy at about 5 lbs. (2.26796 Kilograms).
I really wanna buy a framework
I've been happy with the purchase! Let me know if there is anything you want me to test.
bro cut your nails
Funny enough I do, almost every time, but I batch record the videos, then edit and post them. But your comment has been noted and it's part of my checklist when I am filming a video now. Thanks for the comment and helping drive the content to be better.
damm bruh mind yo buisness
Another great post, @Jscar_Hawk. Thanks for sharing the diagram about the best slots to use for each expansion card. But, according to the diagram, the number 6 slot, where you inserted the HDMI card, does not have display capabilities. Have you had a chance to test this out yet? I still don't have my Framework 16 yet to help.
Great catch, I'll have to check what I have been running verses what I filmed. I'll test and get back to you!
@@Jscar_Hawk Any update? I am installing mine right this second hahahaha

Thank for taking time and sharing this video. I have a Beelink SRE 5 Max Ryzen 7 5800H and I am going to install an external GPU that will connect to my M2 NVme drive port. Is it possible to use my Nvme drive using a Sata enclosure and connect it to the Sata port ? This way I won't have to buy a new SSD and I can use my Nvme drive that has all my softwares and OS installed. Is there an Adapter or enclosure available to accomplish this task ? I came across with this on amazon "M.2 to U.2 Adapter - for M.2 PCIe NVMe SSDs - PCIe M.2 Drive to U.2 (SFF-8639) Host Adapter - M2 SSD Converter (U2M2E125)" I am not sure whether it will work with my mini pc or not ?
I looked long and far for a drive to do this, bought 3 that claimed to do it, and each one failed. I'd instead suggest putting your NMVe into a enclosure. My Favorite so far is the Plugable USB-C M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure; Tool-Free & Driverless. amzn.to/3QCHgXJ

Good video, us in Batch 5 are now getting pre-shipping notifications! 😁
Oh nice!
I wish they made an aluminum plate to eliminate the touchpad, because I absolutely loathe them, and prefer to use a mouse. But, I will admit that I'm probably a minority when it comes to that.
I bet SOMEONE, can or will make it. All the specs are known, so folks can create what they want
Couldn’t you just order a bunch of extra spacers or led matrix panels?
Once they get in stock, but right now they are focusing on getting them shipped with the folks who are buying it with a laptop and not singles. Once that changes, you bet I'll be picking up a few.
i bet one could be 3d printed
This is the type of product you come up with things yourself instead of waiting for the company to make it for you.
Thanks for the video, I binge watch laptop 16 videos. You're the only one who mentioned the thermal pad. Thanks for letting me know. I'm in batch 7, I should get mine early next month. I noticed your said the m.2 is 2270 (2:40) length, I believe it is 2280.
Awesomesauce!!! That’s a good callout in the NVME sizes, thanks for the corrections!
@@Jscar_Hawk You're welcome. I'm looking forward to seeing more reviews from you.
That keyboard is rough man. 2000$ and there's no arrow keys, just some weird ineffectual nubs.
I am mixed on it to be honest. My Lenovo laptop has full arrow keys. The Framework 13 inch has full arrow keys for the left and right, but short ones for up and down.
Well you're in luck, because it's modular. So they'll definitely make ones where your needs meet.
@@FR4M3Sharma It is modular, but it requires for the part to be made.
I wonder how long before he realizes he has lost his wristwatch?
At some point I must of taken it off to let it charge.
It was a joke. You were doing surgery on the laptop.@@Jscar_Hawk
ahhhhh, got it, I follow :-D

I USE ARCH BTW
My regular desktop and laptops are both fedora, but I am technically running arch also, because of steam OS.

Need a booboo bagins numpad for a hidden mouse compartment. The mouse teraforms into a mickey mouse sanpan.
I am looking forward to seeing what folks come up with for other modules!
Hey bro! Pineberry website have quite A few new things coming. There is one Credit 10 particular that sticks out to me, it says: HatBRICK! Commander (2 ports, GEN 2) for Raspberry Pi 5 Does this mean that a top and bottom board can be attached to the Raspberry Pi5??
They’re both using the PCie cable, so, as of right now you can only use one. But I believe they are coming out with the hat that has two of the smaller NVME that runs off the one PCIE cable
Another great video! I can't wait for the next one in the series. By the way, there are flaps at the bottom of the keyboard, numpad, and spacers to make it easier to lift them up from the magnets.
Great point. It is still magnetized down, so it holds it close to the plate even with the tabs.
Quick question can both be attached to the pi5 @ the same time?
Sadly, no, you can only attach 1 at a time.
I’m thinking it can. For example I want the A.I board which goes at the bottom; right? Then my NVME storage needs to be at the top. So the top hat and be placed on top and then power connectivity can be transferred through the GPIO pins; right?
I'm in Batch 5 so hopefully I won't be far off!
More detail coming or nah!?
yes! I'll get my review on this up and online!
Sweet!
Hey great job on the video! I’m DYING to get my 16, love that I can replace every part and customize it so much! Looking forward to your next video
@richardwiech Which batch are you? I was late to the party and got into batch 16.
@@StephenFletcherKW batch 3, and they sent me the batch preparation email on the 19th of this month. Checking every few hours for that shipping email lol but still nothing yet
@@StephenFletcherKW They just took the money out of my account, should be shipping soon!
My next video is taking a little bit longer, because I’ve been filming as I go, and I’m getting real world test done on it. Currently trying to get this spec tuned just right to play helldivers II, stable on my Linux side. Plays great on high on the windows side.
The FW16 is the laptop of the future. Modular, easily customizable and user-friendly. Truly a dream laptop for me who's still currently using a 9 year old Asus.
I hear you. I was using a Macbook via 2001, then a lenovo t460, and then to my Framework 13 inch with 11th gen Intel. I then did the motherboard upgrade from 11th gen to 12th gen. I then used the Master Cooler case with my 11th Gen. And my 12th gen has been my daily driver for years!
Thanks for this, I've been looking for a dedicated video of the unboxing of this laptop. Great video, I look forward to the next few on this laptop. I've preordered the Framework Laptop 16 and I am currently watching as many videos as I can about the laptop.
Same!! Batch 17 guild! You?
@@cjmc17Batch 16 guild! Just squeaked into it as I noticed a few days later that Batch 17 was starting to take pre-orders.
Awesome! Yea I get in on Batch 2, and this thing is a beast! Already have upgraded Ram and SSD. Let me know if you have any question or things you want me to test on it.
@@Jscar_Hawk As weird as it sounds, I really would like to see a demonstration of the UEFI for the Framework 16.
Ahhhhhh Good call, I can do a follow up video going through all those options!
Another great upgrade I did on mine is add a DP 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 adapter which made it able to output 4K@120Hz and a USB 3.2 to 2.5GbE ethernet adapter for faster WAN/LAN connection. 💪
Very nice!
8gigs for a pi is probably overkill, but is it dual-channel?
There are some applications that you can run and utilize that eight gigs for, specially if you’re running containers and wanting to optimize. I’ve never heard anyone ask if it was dual channel . So I don’t think that’s part of the spec.
Niceeee
Thanks 🤗
