Yea, a plumber tried to charge me $3000 to “clean and unclog” my houses pipe system, instead I went and bought 10 Drano bottles and poured one down each of the drains in my house. Woke up the next day to an unclogged pipe system. Secondly, most modern pipe systems in newly built homes now a days are PVC or PEX as far as I know. PVC and PEX does not corrode and it is resistant against almost all corroding agents

Wonder how a customer would feel about this if I did this for them..

Never understood why people would go for draino when a basic snake is so cheap and easy. I'd be standing in a foot of water every time I showered before, 10 minutes with the drain weasel later and it's draining like new again.

How to clean your sink drain: Put into drain 2 heaping table spoons baking soda, then pour half a cup of vinegar into the drain. White or cider, your choice. Let it fizz while you get a medium sized pot of water boiling. Be careful and pour the boiling water into the drain. Repeat if needed.

If draino destroyed pipes, then Plumbers would LOVE it. Do you know how much they charge for excavating out a damaged mainline buried 4 feet in the ground? I worked for RotoRooter last year as a camera technician. My job was to look for damage and sell pipe repairs/replacements. We charged $7000 for a 10'x 4' mainline repair. A damaged pipe is like a goldmine for people in the plumbing business. Drain cleaners on the other hand, got a $200 referral, just for recommending my services to the customer.

Drano is taking away plumbers jobs so it’s obviously they would hate it. Drano is more cost-effective. You no longer have to pay $150-$300 compared to paying $5 -$15 that give the same results which is to unclog your sink/toilet. some people just want to unclog their drain without supporting someone else’s lifestyle.😂

I snake out to 25', and if it doesn clear right away, then, following the instructions on drano does work. Pour in 16oz, wait 15 mins, flush with hot water. Repeat until clog is not gone. For showers, it is usually hair that clogs so drano or liquid plumber works just fine. If you leave the stuff in your pipe without properly flushing your ferrous drain you may have issues long term. Plumbers aren't necessarily easy on the pipes either.😊

A plumber died from our competitor company a few years ago. The home owner used a drain chemical but did not tell the plumber. He then used their company chemical which reacted to the chemical in the drain. Combine that with being in the bathroom (small room) the fumes took him and he died

I believe you can use the liquid drain cleaners but you have to follow instructions. Also , after drain clears run a lot of water to wash any of the acids away on the pipes.

I used Drano, didn't clear the clog deep within, most likely drano didn't go down far enough or got diluted from the still water. So I used a snake, the drano smell was strong and bleaches your colored clothes, this is probably one of the reasons plumbers tell you not to use it cause when they come, most likely the owner used drano first before calling.

Actually it doesn't cause the much damage,because most homes nowadays have pvc pipes required by code.

Putting a plumbing snake down a drain is gonna tear shit up as well. 🤷

I used aiello the guy comes over and used the same snake I already had he then said he was the tech and that only the plumber can go into the access port and that would be more than the 500 dollar charge that I already had. Before he left he said buy a bladder and use that it should work. So I paid 500 for advice. It's all a scam

You can mulch leaves however depending on how north you are if you get a lot of snow, spots on the lawn that have heavier layers of mulched leaves are prone to what is called me “snow moss” its bad for your lawn and can leave dead patches throughout the yard. It’s better to have a professional come and clean up the yard properly via removing the mulched up lawns away. Some debris left behind are okay.

So the logic is don’t use the inexpensive shelf product, pay the expensive plumber. This is so you don’t damage your pipes, and don’t have to pay the expensive plumber. If draino damaged the pipe, wouldn’t the plumber want you to use it to give them more business? One of these things is not like the other.

Only time drano would cause issues is if you have cast iron plumbing . These products don’t affect pvc

I tired this last year and it destroyed my yard. I know people say this is good for your yard but in my case it was nothing but trouble this past spring.

Hey plumber here. The aisle that I think should be burned to the ground at Target is the aisle that has flushable wet wipes. The only drain cleaner that damages pipes is a high acid drain cleaner when you have cast iron or copper drains. You can tell that drain cleaner apart from the rest cuz it will come in a plastic container then come with a bag sealed around it. Don't buy that stuff. I encourage people to go out and by three basic plumbing tools. A plunger preferably two, a closet auger for toilets, and a quarter inch hand powered 15 ft or 25 ft hand snake. With those three tools and a couple CZcams videos you will save yourself several hundred dollars a year. Use any one of them once and they are all paid for. One thing you should know about drain pipes is that they all clog. If your house is over 75 years old you have to have those three items.
