Refugee Week is an important and integral part of Ashfield Public School’s annual calendar. As part of our Refugee Week activities all students from K-6 participated in the creation of a whole school collaborative artwork.
The ephemeral sculptural installation created this year is titled “Together” and based on the books "When Stars are Scattered" by Victoria Jamieson and "You Are Stardust" by Elin Kelsey. The classroom based workshops resulted in the creation of nearly 500 unique and personalised cardboard lanterns merging together to create a constellation of stars.
With the world wide crisis involving forcibly displaced and refugee people worsening this temporary sculpture was unveiled at Wests Leagues Club Ashfield on the 23rd of June 2022 and gave students and the community an opportunity to reflect on others around the world.
