St Cuthberts Cave.
St Cuthberts Cave is a sandstone Ccave, situated in the Kyloe Hills near Holburn between Belford and Lowick.
The woodlands and cave are the property of the National Trust.
The cave is formed of overhanging rock, sufficiently large to provide shelter for a small group, with a width of 24m and height of 3m. The back wall is 7m from the face and there is a natural rock pillar in the middle of the cave.
This is a place I have been meaning to visit for the last couple of years. A fantastic location and one definitely worth a revisit.
Storm Arwen has clearly wreaked havoc in the woods which changed my route slightly but no major drama.
According to the Anglo-Saxon Chronicles, in 875AD, as the Danes ravaged Lindisfarne and destroyed all the monasteries. Eardulf Bishop of Lindisfarne, and Abbot Eadred, taking the body of St Cuthbert from the island of Lindisfarne, wandered about for seven years."
According to legend, these caves might have been among the places in which either the Monks took shelter with their holy relic or where Cuthbert himself lived as an anchorite hermit before moving to the Farne Islands.

The Roberts Battery Tunnel. Seaton Sluice

Having heard about the access tunnel, we decided to scope it out. The opening is tricky to spot but it's worth it when you find it and squeeze inside. I researched the history afterwards and am now keen to head back to try and access the rooms beyond. I have added a few old photos at the end of the video so you can see what it was once like. On a school I night, I took the boy and his friends for an evening bimble to Thrunton Woods. I am more than happy with his navigational skills so this again was a good little tester. Me and Mrs Adventure took the scenic route off the main track to scope out a new bivi / hammock spot. I never tire of the place. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07NT77GT... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08DH917K...

At the end of a long week, I took to the trail and headed North to have a night under the stars in my vintage Goretex hooped bivi. I met up with my mate Kowalski and had a great night. Good food, good company, an open fire and the weather was perfect. Far too hot through the night. Now I'm already looking forward to the next one.
Woodland Practice with Tarps and Hammocks
zhlédnutí 107Před 3 lety
Me and young Mountain Man McGurk spent the afternoon and evening in the woods practicing tarp lines and hanging the hammocks. A few coffees and a meal of open fire cooked steaks with mash, peas n sweetcorn. A perfect school holiday break for the lad and back by midnight. Straight there, Straight back and no human interaction.
Hepburn Woods : A successful failure 💀

We went for a night in the woods. A quick Google search revealed an absolute gem of a wood. Loads of history and we were excited to head up. Unfortunately, not knowing the place, we took the wrong shelter and finding a spot was a nightmare. No flat spots and the place we found was clearly not fit for purpose... just rubble below the surface and mega difficult to get the pegs to stay in. After r...

I was only young when we frequently visit Seaton Sluice ,this would be the sand dunes though .I remember concrete tank stops / bunkers on the sands ( I think ).I think there was a caravan site at Old Hartley ,maybe this was on top of rocky outcrops ??

I don't think the campsite is still there. There are caravans on the other side of the bay though. Thank you for taking time to comment 😊

The cliff side was blown up, because we children used to explore! The above ground was covered by machinery. I remember this well. Soft Cock.

Excellent video and research. Used to go in that tunnel in the 1970's as a kid, before the cliff collapse. We knew it served the gun in the field above, but never knew what it was used for. The plans in the video clearly show it as a drainage tunnel, which totally makes sense. It would be great to see access opened up from above, and the rooms cleared out!

Access is vie the right hand door not left ;) Also, the images you show at the end are mixed with another gun location - one was a mobile rail mounted gun and completely independent of that battery site. Lastly, I strongly advise against entering this battery site now. It's about to be sealed up (if it hasn't already) because people like yourself have openly and publicly described exactly where the entrance is and exactly how to get in. Shot yourself in the foot basically..
