I have never considered myself to be a long distance walker. Knowing what I know now, having had the pleasure of meeting so many long distance walkers from all parts of the world, in the last 5 years on this 5,000 mile walk, I can see what the attraction is. I've always considered myself to be a charity walker, raising thousands of pounds for charity, on such walks as the Lyke Wake Walk. So when the opportunity to embark on a 390 day walk around the coast path of Britain arose, I couldn't miss that opportunity. I had no idea that I would be able to do such a walk, especially starting just 3 months before my 70th birthday. I took a video camera, a camper van with a dongle, allowing me to broadcast my daily walk. This is the 2nd re-edit of the original material. The amazing summer of 2018 made it very easy for me allowing me to walk non-stop through 2018/19, where I walked 4,700 to reach John O'Groats. This is the story and how Covid wrecked my plans over, and over, but I survived!

Brilliant night at Tapestry. First time for Rita and I. Only 40 minutes from home. Easy miles on the M62 being weekend. Wonderful friendly Yorkshire folk of all ages. All good dancers too. Great time. It remind me of The Room in Hull in the early 90's. Great atmosphere. Well done Jason. Great job of a great complex.

Thanks for the video tour, Jim. I'm heading down this way to Balminnoch in a couple of weeks. I don't know the area at all, so all info is greatly appreciated. By the way, it's pronounced "Kir -Koob- Ray" I believe. Thanks again 👍

@@jimhawkinswalkstheuk thank you
Jim, wheres Trisha? Is Harry still going strong? Will you do another narrowboat holiday together?
Used to go to GIRVAN swimming pool when I was a lad love that part of Scotland all the way down to Galloway. I live in London and miss that part of Scotland so much
One of my favourite videos Jim! Great to see Ralph and Mel. Can't believe its been so long ago that I started watching you on your walk! Glad you saved all this on video to enjoy for years to come.
Enjoying your walks again Jim on a 50 inch screen!! The scenery is amazing! I have previously watched you on my iPad, this is much better! Hope all is well with you and Rita!!!
I,lived in Cairnryan as a child. Its not cairngaryan nobhead. You really need to do some research before you put out your content. X
We did that walk in June 2019 We love it
The wrestler who lived in the railway cottage was Clark Mellor AKA Hans Streiger.
Thank You for this information. I will pass it on to the girls. Kind Regards, Jim
Tough walk Jim! I wouldn't like walking near all that traffic
Hi Robin, Happy New Year. I agree that it was well worth saving and editing all the footage. So pleased that you enjoy it so much. Kind Regards, Jim
Great walk Jim, hated to see Ralph leave! Y'all make a good team! Sure miss these walks y'all made, these were good times. Glad you made this video record to look back on!
Great to see this walk agin. Glad to see Ralph, I know y'all had a wonderful time together.
Lovely walk Jim! Looks very peaceful. Cheers.
Glad you found the Walker's Tea Stop on this route like I did a few years ago - very useful refreshment point! Sorry Ralph thought this walk was boring, it's one of my favourite parts of the SWCP; the upper route (thing you did the lower alternative route through the woods) is gorgeous in good weather. Happy New Year! Bob
HI Jim, I have watching the whole series and found it very enjoyable and relaxing, I googled Harry to see what he was up to and was sad to see he has passed away, I read a lot about the work he done for St. Andrews and other charity work on hes obituary on the St. Andrews webpage, thank you and Trisha for sharing your videos and I would like to send Trisha my sincerest condolences on the loss of he father, Best wishes to you all. Simon
Very sad to read that about Harry :(
Beautiful scenery for sure!
Enjoying some of your old videos Jim! Sure miss those days when you were on the trail everyday! Good to see the old purple van! Hope you are well and enjoying life!
Hi Robin, it's always good to hear from you. Thanks for your sentiments, and yes, Rita and I are doing well. Very busy working on making big improvements to our home and having a new central heating system installed. 2023 has been a thoroughly miserable year for weather. Non stop rain. very little walking. floods everywhere. Roll on 2024. Hope You and Yours are well. Kind Regards, Jim & Rita
Good morning. I always wondered how much you ate and drink during your days of walking. The impression I get, is that you had full English breakfast, tea sometime during the day, and then a dinner and perhaps a few beers in the evening. But I am sure drank a lot of fluid/water? during the walks and perhaps some snacks? Kind regards, Trond
Hi Trond. Great to hear from you. Briefly I walked an average of 14.5 miles per day for 390 days and lost 20 kilos in doing so. Its calores in and calories out. Please send me an email, it would be good to write to you in private. Kind Regards, Jim
Wow! This walk brought back some memories of my youth! First of all you parked your van in Swanage at North Beach Car Park and facing Journey's End Football pitch where I spent many Sunday mornings playing for my local pub side. Walking up to Old Harry also brought back memorioes of the August 1999 total eclipse. We'd walked up from Studland to hopefully get a good view and the sky was full of cloud when we started but just before we reached the rocks the clouds parted and we had a wonderful view of the eclipse and the silence of the birds and animals as the shadow passed over. With the prime area of visibility in Cornwall hidden by thick cloud, we probably had the best view in the country! Moving down to pass the Bankes Arm pub in Studland also reminded me of a pub quiz team I used to take part in. We'd come to the Bankes Arms from Swanage one evening and had not a particularly successful time but won the 'beer' round afterwards despite one of my colleagues inserting beer mats in the sandwiches and then complaining they were stale and tough. The landlady heard us and dared us to return! (I actually did go back there last year and I was not on the banned list!!). Keep walking and happy - Bob (aka Swanageboy)
Hi Bob. I am experiencing difficulty in replying to messages for some unknown reason and it only allows me to make a very short reply. Please may I ask you to email me to allow me to respond to you message as you were when you wrote it. Alternatively I am on Facebook if that helps the situation. It would be very nice to stay properly in touch with you in the hope that we will meet one day in the future. Kind regards, Jim
We walked that yesterday Jim in the other direction in the Storm, nice inland scenery. Good vid as always.
Wow Steve, I bet that was an experience you will never forget. Well done mate. Incredible
Been updating my 'Likes' on your walks Jim. This walk is a gorgeous stretch of Coast Path I know very well. Have walked the stretch around Durdle Door many times and it never fails to amaze me how Nature has created that wonderful arch. Still got 70 miles of the SWCP in Cornwall left to do myself which I want to finish before my 70th next May weather permitting - fingers crossed! Bob
Hi Bob, Good to hear from you again. Glad you are still walking, buy hopefully not in the current weather. I also loved the who;e walk from Weymoufh to Swanage. Glad you are still walking. Living in Glossop now. Some great walks around here. You are welcome to join me. Kind Regards, Jim
Haven't yet confirmed our holiday plans for 2024 but The Peak District may be on our list and if it is you can be sure I'll be in touch to see if we can sort out a walk somewhere in the area. The rain has relented here today although the ground is now sodden but hope to get out in The Cotswolds next week. Regards Bob@@jimhawkinswalkstheuk
Jim - thank you for being you. These videos are amazing and you’re such an inspiration. I can’t wait to watch them all in a row!
Hello Oscar. Very nice to hear from you. Thank You for you kind words.I find it difficult to try to communicate on CZcams. You are more than welcome to join me on Facebook. Jim Hawkins. Kind Regards, Jim
The music spoils this. Too loud and it doesn't 'fit' with the topic.
You are entitled to your opinion. Very sorry. Kind Regards, Jim
Hi! I started following your videos when you started this journey some years ago. Then I fell out for some reason. But several times I wanted to start following your journey again, but couldn't find the videos on youtube. Now, a few weeks back I found them again. I guess your journey is finished a long time ago. But I have started watching again, and want to follow through all the videos. It is very impressing and a great inspiration what you have done. Kind regards, Trond (from Bergen, Norway).
Hello Trond, Thank you very much for your kind words. I am pleased that you found my re-edited version of the UK walk. I am pleased that it gave you so much pleasure. Kind Regards to You and Yours. Enjoy again !!!!
Pleasure meeting you today Jim. Best of luck to you and Rita with your travels 🚀
Hi Samuel, It was a great pleasure to meet you too. I hope your weight loss program is a success. We must stay in touch and meet up again to have a walk together. Kind Regards, Jim and Rita
Well done Jim! I've made that journey a couple of times recently, but on my e-bike, taking advantage of the cycle route! It's so nice to travel a long distance without having to deal with today's crazy road traffic!! I was a bit confused with the video date though - Tuesday 11th June... must be 2018? - Clues... there's now a brand new cycle lane from Jaywick Sands to Martello Bay, replacing that rough concrete roadway 😎, the promenade works have been finished, Walton Pier has undergone a transformation in the last couple of years, the garage in the High Street, close to where you caught the bus to Clacton, was demolished 3 years ago, and since the pandemic, the bus service is run by a different company! So much has changed in 5 years! 😮😁. czcams.com/channels/Qa1eYC59gr0r6lUXBqZZ3w.html
Thank You for writing such a warm and friendly reaction to my video. I am delighted that you enjoyed it. And yes, it should have said 2019. I have subscribed to you channel . Kind Regards, Jim. PS. You didn't tell me your name ?
That's not Ireland Jim, it's the Llyn Peninsula. Another good vid.
Hi Steve. Big apologies. I always find it hard work to look at such a distance at mountainous coast lines and be accurate. Sorry mate. kind Regards, Jim
Well Jim after a couple of weekends on the Leeds Liverpool we finally did a week last week and took in the foulridge tunnel. Used your great videos as reference to help. Thoroughly enjoyable experience although heavily busy with locks and swing bridges as you know. The only disappointment other than the appalling weather of late was the fact loads of places we were hoping to call into were closed or closed down :( Cross keys at east Marton ( closed Down) Anchor inn and salterforth ( closed ) Cafe at top lock at Greenberfield ( closed down) But we had a good week . Would probably do a more relaxing canal next time though with less locks and swing bridges
Cairnryan .
Sorry for the error. I had a mental block with Cairnryan. Once again, Sorry
I have just finished Day 1- 7 of your canal Odyssey and have to say that it has been an absolute pleasure to have “travelled” along with you all. The videography was first class, as was the narration which was informative but not overbearing (like so many CZcams videos). Harry is an absolute delight, what an amazing gentleman…..a class act all the way! In a hectic world your videos are a breath of fresh air of calm and tranquility tempered with some humorous interjections! The Team Briefings/Meetings were particularly enjoyable…..hilarious! Harry,Jim and Trish ….you all deserve a big pat on the back………well done! P.S. The music accompaniment is spot on!
Hello Trevor, Thank You for you very kind words. I am so pleased that you enjoyed the series of film so much.
Hoping to emulate most of this walk (Portwrinkle to Wiggle) over the next few days (if the weather relents!) so was useful to watch this morning. Hope you're keeping fit and well.
Hi Bob, I remember that walk very well during January of 2019 with Ralph. The sea was like a park boating lake. Like typical August day. Are you crossing into Plymouth ? Have a good walk my friend. Stay in touch. Kind Regards, Jim
Have actually done the bit around Rame Head and across into Plymouth - this is just a bit of teh SWCP which I need to fill in; still have about 80 miles to go all in Cornwall so, once kids are back it school will book a couple of Airbnbs and get it finished.@@jimhawkinswalkstheuk
Hi Jim at 7:06 in the video when you're talking to Ralph there's two figure head on the posts to the car park. One is of a sailor the other a soldier from the First World War, below the figures are battle honours from that war. PS what is the name of the music when you reach John O'Groats?
Hello sir
Hello Nazam, I am fine thank you, how are you ?
I am fine sir
I love your videos!!! So inspiring. I am visiting Crackington Haven soon from the US and I am very excited. Thanks for the video, very well made and fun to watch.
Hi Hogan, Wow !!! Hogan that's a massive compliment. I sincerely Thank You. There is no doubt in my mind that you will LOVE Cornwall. Take a walk in my footsteps my friend. Kind Regards to You and Your's, Jim
24:04 in is me piloting the safety boat out at sea while the squib sailing boats chased each other..... Great video Jim..👍
Hi John, Thanks for your kind comments. I am pleased you are enjoying the re-edit.Kind Regards.Jim
What a great walk Jim!! I love that area, kayakers dream! Ray sure is a super friend to come up and walk and support you like that!! I have a CZcams friend who lives there and makes some great surf ski and sea kayak videos of the area! Cheers Jim!
Hi Robin, Thanks for your warm comment. Ray is a fantastic man and character. I met him when I was walking around Anglesey with his lovely wife Shirley. We have been good friends ever since. I could not have manage to get through Edinburgh without him. Always a pleasure to be with. very funny, lots of jokes. Great guy to walk with. Kind regards Jim
Amazing rail bridge!!!
The Forth Rail Bridge is like one of the 7 wonders of the world built in the 1850's. The painters start at one end, paint to the other, then start again and again and again. There is is saying here, It's like painting the Forth Bridge. Kind Regards, Jim
