oled earrings v1
First prototype and Christmas present for my nerdy girl.
One Earring weights about 9 grams which is acceptable for most women. Unfortunately my girl has a low tolerance for heavy earrings and can only wear them for an hour. She likes it, though.
The whole project took about 6 weeks at about an hour a day.

We received these beautiful display segments at the 29th Chaos Communication Congress in Hamburg from the guys at muCCC (muc.ccc.de). They didn't provide any information about how to do anything with them, so we had to do just a little reverse engineering. After figuring out the whole circuit-board layout to get an idea of what the developers intended for the interface, we verified our results ...

A timelapse video of hk routing the layout of our usb-2-can dongle. This dongle can initially be programmed over USB without any extra hardware. It also features a software controlable CAN bus termination resistor. Music: Professor Kliq - Phillipai

I really hope this song wasn't used in any expensive animations like 50k or so.
Aside from a few minor glitches this is really good
TFW your new monitor has dead pixels.
It's a cool thing, but it needs to be improved: 1) It is better to send a signal along the line all the time or at least increase the amount of signal time, 2) It is better to connect each line separately, and not the entire display because the display needs vertical synchronization. I hope you bring your technology to the end! Good luck!
The best part about this screen is the audio. Weird right?

youtube, why didnt you recommend me this *ten years ago?*
Can it run crysis
Run doom on that thing and I'd be impressed. (Ok already impressed)
The sound sounds like if you could play tetris in portal
Omg the monitor refresh rate is low, yet sometimes dead pixel
gorgeous
i love this game this would be fun
is that horizontal scan lines?
But can it run Crysis?
You can run "Bad Apple" on that.
Interesting project. Essentially a large noisy e ink screen. I like it
a dark mode will be cool like you would flip everything
Sooo... Can you play Bad Apple?
Gay
Needs colour
This has the potential to be the most satisfying game in history if you somehow manage to perfectly match up the flipping of the pixels with the beat of the music. I don't know if the specifics make it pheasable but if you can control the timing of the drawframe it should be doable, as well as some changes to the speed at which things move/animate.
This is like torture by 100 simultaneously clicking pens but still pretty awesome tech display.
This is the coolest!
Song name please
So it’s a pixelated mechanical screen. Why not just use a tv or monitor? 😂
then it wouldnt be flipdot tetris wouldnt it
Why not just keep your dumb opinion to yourself?
this is so cool!
but can it T-spin?
10 years later, still cool.
You need to disable Vsync, there is some tearing Jk, good work!
Wow. Just think, if you took this flipdot screen idea, but you made each dot really small and arranged them in three-color segments with backlighting. This could revolutionize visual media!
Now that’s all fun and good but can you do a *t - s p i n t r i p l e*
What’s the frame rate
1:10 fucked up how this would only look moderately impressive as actual real time gameplay
This is crazy!! One day i'd love to see a GameBoy emulator running on one of these displays, the grayscale games seem like a perfect fit for it, even thouhg GB games are technically capable of 4 colors, it'd be cool to see something with fast graphics that's interactable on one of these screens.
Can it run crysis? Of course, it's just a screen with low res and black and white, but it can run RTX ON.
This is a prime example of why the human behind tech demos is scripted or bad at the game. Fantasticly done! But you're good, and this takes a while. Stage time pricy.
so cool
Currently using a 11 year old Mac, so not triggered just sad you don’t realize we’re our here, too 😅 Recently installed Void on a 2004 iBook as well. 😄
yes please
Now do GTA
Awww, nooo.. that bad block deal and choke at the end was... Ugh.. i can relate. Now run Metroid 2 on it.
Man is secretly a tetris champion
By far the best way to play Tetris
Cool project, well done ! 😉
By the way, do you know that there is a name for the Tetris melody, this is "The Song of the Peddler".The love song of this shipwright and a certain girl. So this song was a hit in Russia before Tetris.
It's amazing. Unlike your tetris play.
The phantom effect is such a vibe
Love how those glitching dots occasionally just realize later they need to switch lmao
bad apple when
