Lakenheath F-35A Christmas Flights
zhlédnutí 856Před 6 měsíci
On Thursday I visited RAF Lakenheath, home of the 48th Fighter Wing. In preparation of the upcoming F-15E video, I hoped to film some footage of the F-15Es based here, however, they didn't fly that day. What did fly however, which was a sweet sight to see after waiting 2.5 hours in the wind and rain, were several F-35As. I have put together a small compilation video of the videos I took using m...

The A-10A finally got to see combat for the first time since entering service in 1977 in Operation Desert Storm in 1991. There, the A-10s flew to retake Kuwait, setting up the Kuwait Theatre of Operations, for the ground invasion. When the ground war kicked off, though sometimes having accidental blue-on-blue engagements, the A-10s were ready to support every last soldier on the battlefield, ev...

Oh yeah man for “SFMC” in the Desert Storm 1991 campaign when it came to the USMC F/A-18D I made the right choice to select that of VMFA(AW)-121.

Yeah man the F/A-18s from “SFMC” in the Desert Storm 1991 campaign I chose VFA-151 for the F/A-18A and VFA-86 for the F/A-18C.

  • @raymondyee2008

When it came to “SFMC” in selecting the F-14A under the Desert Storm 1991 campaign I chose that of VF-1 markings take a guess why.

Glad I got the F-4G for “SFMC” again for the Desert Storm 1991 campaign. And I got the skin of that from the 561st TFS, 35th TFW.

I particularly like the A-6E TRAM variant in “SFMC” when it’s with the Desert Storm 1991 campaign. And I chose VA-115 for the tail markings.

Great CAS bird for the AV-8B for “SFMC” in the Desert Storm 1991 campaign I got a liking for VMA-542’s livery.

When playing the F-111 in “SFMC” for the Desert Storm 1991 campaign I usually prefer the F-111F with Pave Tack. I got that for the 494th TFS, 48th TFW.

They got the AH-1W for “SFMC” in the Desert Storm 1991 campaign I particularly like that of HMLA-369.

Glad I got the A-10 in “SFMC” for the Desert Storm 1991 campaign. I fly that of the 74th TFS, 23rd TFW.

  • @thepiratepenguin4465

Awesome. Vallejo 71.400UK Desert Pink is the best colour to replicate this scheme & 71.408 PRU Pink for the drop tanks. Some recourses suggest using desert ping for French aircraft as well, but I don't think that would look accurate as the French colour scheme has a pale-yellow tint.

  • @thepiratepenguin4465

The Jaguar & Mirage F-1 entered service in the French air force in the same year & from the get-go the Mirage was the better aircraft of the 2, which is why I believe the French did not care about upgrading the Jaguar as they would rather spend the time & money expanding the capabilities for the Mirage F-1, which is a pure French design which they could market to the world.

So, as I understand, the Iraqi SAMs were radar active and not heat seekheated ? So the buccs were saved by turning off their radar at threat times. Were there any semi active Iraqi SAMs in use?

  • @frederickastorgav7991

I know this war was executed during winter time there due to the performance of the warbirds in hot climates., as far as I understood, the buccs navs locked on the target and could fire and forget. I am not up to date in modern day arming, but I do believe the lgbs had wired fusing problems for explosion. Tho this was the first precision guided weaponry war to be executed.

Good take away from 1st Gulf War to 2nd and to present day. Was back then only the RAF, the Canadians, and the French were actually flying combat sorties. The Italian’s lost a Tornado on the first night and pretty much called it quits. As he was the lone plane that could hit the tanker on that night as the rest in the squadron had difficulty doing nighttime AAR. But the Rest of NATO stayed home because the USAF and the RAF knew they were not really combat capable. These countries that hung out in Turkey learned a big lesson and today if you look at NATO Air Forces. While smaller they are better trained and more capable and taking part in air actions.

If you want to fly... (seriously I'm in the UK) - Move to America - do some college. Volunteer through USAF or NAVY. - UK doesn't have enough planes. Standards are stupid high. where I had a friend, Cambridge grad in mathematics... still not good enough for RAF... ended up flying Apache's.

It seems like a degree of back-pressure inside the gun port is necessary as well. If the hole went through, ie wasn’t designed for airflow like the radiator, there wouldn’t be the energy needed to create the pressure oscillations inside the gun port, which is basically an open ended moonshine jug.
