Sheikh Hamza Yusuf Hanson - Purification Of The Heart - 41
The suffering of the world is spoken of in term of wars, starvation, hatred, competition, and the struggle of the survival of the fittest. Yet all the suffering of the world originates in the human heart. Every crime committed, every act of oppression, every callous cruelty, and every injustice to the self or others emanates from the hearts of men.
The soundest of hearts was the heart of the
Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) who, through his purity and singularity of intention, transformed the world. His teaching remains and the challenge is for each of us to take it and to transform our hearts with it, thereby, transforming the very world in which we live. This CD can be purchased from www.alhambraproductions.com
Shaykh Hamza Yusuf Hanson was born in Walla Walla, Washington, and grew up in Northern California.
Shaykh Hamza embraced Islam in 1977 in Santa Barbara, California, when he was still a teenager and set off almost immediately to study Arabic, Islamic jurisprudence, philosophy, and spiritual psychology with masters in the Muslim world. He first studied for four years in the United Arab Emirates and then moved to Madina, followed by Algeria, Morocco, and then finally to a unique madrassa in the Saharan desert of West Africa to study with the remarkable scholar Shaykh Murabit Al-Hajj.
After ten-years of studies abroad, he returned to the United States and completed degrees in nursing at Imperial Valley College and religious studies at San Jose State University.
In the early 1990's he began to teach classes in the San Francisco Bay Area and in 1996 he established Zaytuna Institute. Two years later the institute acquired a property in Hayward, California, where it is now based. Zaytuna Institute is committed to inspiring a traditional understanding and study of the core Islamic sciences. In addition to weekly classes, week-long and month-long educational programs, and annual conferences that addresses contemporary issues affecting the American people, Zaytuna Institute has published four small books and several major audio-tape sets of Shaykh Hamza's classes.
As the executive director of the Zaytuna Institute, Shaykh Hamza travels frequently to major North American and European cities to teach and lecture to both Muslims and non-Muslim audiences.

    Even though the primary context of the surah could be the meccan kuffar bandits and their ungratefulness, couldn't it also hit at the madani munafiqeen who are ungrateful and do not spend in the path of the Allah, but rather hoard their wealth away? If it can be assumed that the surah is recited before the battle of badr, the first 5 ayaat could actually be a prophecy of the success of the muslims, and the subsequent ayaat blaming the munafiqeen for not contributing to the cause. And we also know that the munafiq participated only in wars that they knew could be won, and did so only bcoz of their Hubb-ul-Khayr for war booty and not for the pleasure of Allah, and thus were kanood. And their intentions would also be exposed on the day of judgement (hussila ma fis sudoor). So although the surah is most probably revealed in makkah, it all seems to perfectly fit the madani context too. SubHānallah!

    NOTES OF SURAH FEEL LAST TWO AYYAH 🔴4 AYYAH Tarmeehim bihijaaratim min sijjeel ⏩ Tarmeehim 🔻Present tense being used فعل مضارع This incident is a past tense incident. It happened in the past but 'tarmeehim' is a present tense. So when a present tense is used to refer to something in the past it means that the act happened over and over again. In other words tht birds did not just throw stones once, but over and over again. If the word 'ramat' (past tense) was used 'ramat hum bihijartin min sijjeel' it would just mean threw once. But the continuity is kept in the word tarmeehim. Present tense. 🔻the origin of the word tarmeehim is 'rama yarmi' it does not just mean to throw but throw at a distance. so this means that the birds were at tall height and because if acceleration due to gravity, the more at height something is, the more it will gain speed and harder force will be exerted on the place where that thing falls. so the stones if the birds were hitting like bullets 🔻RAMI in arabic includes the meaning of something thrown at a specific target. So these pebbles were the guided missiles of Allah s.w.t. each hit the person it was ordered to hit.

      @UnfunnyMayonaise Před 2 měsíci

      ⏩ MIN SIJEEL 🔻Persian origin is not an original Arabic word but it came from a Persian origin. The Persian (farsi) word was 'Sange gill' and it came into Arabic and became sijeel 🔻Meaning of SIJEEL SIJEEL are the type of stones that are made after it rains on soil. Pebbles that are formed on the ground after rain, when the sand dries. These pebbles are called sijeel. they are actually nothing, when u crush them, there is nothing there. It's just dust. It is weak in its origin:dust only. And these pebbles and little birds were used by Allah s.w.t to destroy Abraha's army of elephants SUBHANALLAH!. -it also means clay that baked and burned and formed stones/pebbles. (Burned by the sun) 🔻 ACCORDING TO THE GRAMMAR Arabs used 'sijeel' for the rock that when it hits you, it gets inside. It penetrates through your skin 🔻Every single bird had 3 pebbles with it. 2 in its claws and 1 in it's beak. 🔻 Parallel between sijeen and SIJEEL Sijeen with an 'n' is the book of the criminals, it is at the depths of hellfire, it is like a huge register that is with Allah, and The names of the criminals at the day if judgement along with thier punishments are written in it. So when two words are kind of similar in arabic they also have kinda same meanings, SIJEEL and sijeen has the difference of only 'n' and 'l' so some scholars say that (it's a rare opinion) that it is as if Allah s.w.t is saying that thier punishment of sijeeL was written in sijeeN. 🔻REACTION ON THE SKIN Because of the pebbles that hit thier skin, thier skin started burning off and peeling off. (Due to the infection) Almost like when a skin is burnt. It was kinda like those pebbles had a chemical kinda thing in them. 🔻PLAGUE HITTING THE ARAB WORLD (QURAISH REGION ESPECIALLY) due to the dead rotting corpse and the infection caused by pebbles a huge plague hit the Arab world especially that region. It has been noted that it was one of the worst plague to ever hit that region 🔻Pebbles going through their skulls The eye witness of the account was: those pebbles would hit thier skulls and go through them. Even tho skull is pretty hard to break, it is a really hard bone. But these pebbles were like bullets. It went through thier skulls

      🔻GRAPHIC LANGUAGE IN THIS SURAH this surah uses graphic language. Like it's more focused on the 'how' Allah destroyed them than the 'what' and this is because Allah s.w.t said in the first ayyah 'alam Tara KAIFA' KAIAFA means 'how' so all this description is because Allah s.w.t uses that word. So it really explains how. ⏩FAJA'ALAHUM We transformed them 🔻SYNONYM JA'ALA= transform something into something, someone was something else before but now transformed into something else KAHLAQA= make something out of nothing, from scratch. Abraha's army was powerful before but Allah s.w.t transformed It into something else, Then Allah goes on and tell us what he transformed them into: ⏩Ka ASFI-M-Ma'qool 🔻Ka ک is used K is used for 'tashbeeh' (saying that something is LIKE something) so it is used for likeness. We transformed them 'like' 'ASFI-m-Ma'qool Allah s.w.t is now using more graphic language because of the 'how' used in the first ayyah. He s.w.t is describing to us as human beings who were not present at that incident how they actually looked like in the end.

    Repeated syllables (zal zala, sil Sila, just like that was wasa) shows continuity Muaswis: whispeper Was wasa: the one who is obsessed with whispering Khanis: the one who takes step back Khannas: the one who keep taking steps back (meaning he takes step forward, then he takes step back over and over again) Hiba means a gift, wahab means who keep giving gift over and over again, gaffar (keeps forgiving over and over again Our humility is contrasted with iblees's takkabur 12:28 Qalb is a place, but sadar is zarf makan, a place Imagery: qalb is like a castle, but sadar is like a yard, so iblees is in the yard , hoping one day he can get in the qalb, and they key to the qalb castle belongs to us When saitaan does it, evil deeds will look good, And when emaan is in the heart , baad deeds look ugly, Shaitaan has an access to our chest, but not our hearts unless we give him the acces -Why jinn is used first? Source is mentioned first, jinn and then naas Conclusion Connection: surah falak and surah fatihah Last surah connected to first surah Sunnah, whenever nabi s.a.w would recite naas, 'finish' the quran then he would recite surah fatihah again. There we asked for help to acomplish a task, and here we ask for protection from the one who tries to stop us from accomplishing a task Verse 1 1 : rab verse 2 3 malik verse 3 4,5 : worship This surah begans with asking for help and surah fatihah ends with asking for help 2 negative influences talked about in each surah Waswase s bachna kitna zrori h: all the conflict or this war of islam and kufr began, that's why Adam a.s was sent to earth, because of waswasa of shaitan

    Last thing, hasad , of all creation, iblees is most jealous, and the next surah is dedicated to protect us from the one who's most jealous Iblees is the source of jealousy, he it's wasawasa, the inward source Evil that makes thier way inside of our selves is discussed in surah naas, and outside in surah falaq Surah falaq, the responsiblity is on criminals, but in surah naas, we can choose to act on shaitan's waswasa or not, the responsiblity is on us In Surah falaq, the harms discussed harms our dunya but in surah naas the harms discussed it harms our deen, akhirah so that is why we call on Allah 3 times as much in naas . 3 musta'as bihi, one musta'az minhu (sharr) Qul: apni be basi kehna, humble krna Naas, Allah could have said skies and Earth, but it's the people who need protection not SKIES and EARTH Absolute owner, rabbul bait (owner of house) but Malik and rabb is diff, Rab also means the one who has: complete authority (you. Have to have driver license even if are its owner), the one who does takes care of (it's possible that we have ownership, authority but we don't take care of it but Allah does all), grants gift (he doesn't give us anything that is his duty but rather he gives us gift), all qayyim : the one ensuring the existence of the subject ( so we are alive because Allah wants us to) When Allah introduced himself to hazrat muhammad (surah alaq) and hazrat Musa , he mentioned rabb first and even us, in Quran in surah fatihah the first word for Allah is rabb Phycological progression The 1st problem, parent or rabb the one who is taking care of u Bigger problem, Malik gov Bigger problem, illah (Allah) And Allah is telling us that all these, your rabb, your Malik and your illah is Allah, from the most basic and the highest needs ,you turn to Allah for every need 36:44 More to less, Rab: the one who takes care of u, ( in society it could be many) Malik: for 1 society there is only one , but if we see i. Worldy range,we have many societies Illah:its only one and it can't be used in worldy sense Opposite for people (less to more After shaitaan its firoon who did takabur He mentioned himself as rabb He said aren't these rivers flow beneath and only i am the king of misr He called himself illah, ma alimtu lakum min illahin gairi That's what the waswasa of shaitan can lead to, that you started calling your self illah Today people declare themselves their own king , thier own illah, I am my own king 'do you see the one that takes thier own desires and turn them into illah' we all have a mini firoon inside of us We don't need to have huge castles to become a mini firoon, but the concept of who that is crushed in the start of this surah, to declare that we need Allah's help and protection Naas: nisyaan, forgets ( shaitan can make us forget for some time ) and we are asking for Allah's refuge from shaitaan Rab doesn't include maaalik, and next ayah includes Malik and then in 3rd ayah, the only one who can be rabba ND maaalik at the same time is illah ,, that's Allah 48:44 Illah means worthy of worship and worthy of obedience Ibadah, 5 times a day But in between those prayer we obey Allah Anger is a manifestation of anger, thats why when we are angey we are suppoed to say ta'ooz

    Assalam Alaykom, I was listening to your tafseer and when you were making connection between the surah and the others before, it came to my mind, that surah al-masad tells us about the bad things and bad people, that we can face in life, such as about jahal and his bad deeds, so as if Allah is teaching us that whenever we face hard situation, someone hurts us, treat us badly, .... read the 3 surahs, to protect you and to give you ease and relief from this hardship, they remind us that everything is in the control of Allah and will protect us and reward us and help us, he is Assamad. And they are so easy to memorize, read and remember in time of difficulties, subhanaAllah, Allah made the remedy so easy and powerful, subhanaAllah, he is truly Arrahmaan Arraheem. So this idea came to my mind, is it good idea? can I think like this? or it is wrong? Please advise me brother Numan, jazak Allah and baraka Allah feekom was zakakom 'ilman.
