Beautiful work. She deserves DCC and sound to really bring her to life.
Thanks John I was lucky to repair that joint. Regards Rowland.
What scale is this? You mention the gauge but HO is shared by two scales so I assume it is 00
My test tracks are both OO gauge thanks for your comments.
There where many Class 1 U.S.A. railroads that operated large compound mallet 2-8-8-2's similar to the Y-3. I wonder how much it would take to make an accurate NP Z-4 from one of those models.
Hi what is an NPZ-4 can't think?
Nice layout, I have a couple Diamond cross overs wondering how I can use them, now I know where one of them will go. As for the Lima, good to see that a little drop of oil will do the trick, happy days and thanks for sharing 😃😃
What brand is it?
Hi this loco is a Hornby. Regards Rowland.
That is really something else as Rivarossi, but simplicity is something, as I foun out with the vintage Fleischmann, real big screws, and a lot of metal, as the Roco ones are something else in that matter as well. same with Hornby and Bachmann, the Hornby simple design is very kind for me. :)
Hi thanks for your comments, Lima motors are my favourite. Regards Rowland.
This a more nice layout than the previous one, but very nice presentations of the items.
Hi thanks for the comment. Regards Rowland.
Nice little layout......
Hi Noel thanks for the comment, scroll down to see a guide to building my test track 5a and back even earlier to see my older builds. Regards Rowland.
It's 'axles' not axels!
I've never been any good at spelling why can't it be spelt like it sounds tricky language English.
@@RGWmodels Hahaha
I bought this new some years ago but I was never comfortable with the pale blue body and pale yellow front. I later found a 'Royal Scots Grey'body with much more convincing colours. So mine has a new guise. Years on, all my Lima diesels still run like new complete with noisy motors but I love this sound.
The sound of a Lima motor at speed hums with a unique sound that no other motor has. Like you I love that hum. Regards Rowland.

What do you think of it so far 🙂
Rivarossi products are cheap and a waste of money. Sorry you had that issue. Save your money and buy a Broadway Limited Imports Big Boy. Well worth it and look way better. Not maid from plastic. Your paying the same amount of money from BLI for a way better product. CV

That's probably the reason I have never seen a BLI loco on eBay. Regards Rowland.
Good Job. 👏🏼
Thank you! 🙂
Runs great 👍
Angry little engine
Wow 🤩 this seems to run on tight curves too? Is that radius 1 in the middle?
Hi this engine runs on 1st radius curves.
Is this the Lima battery run but on a DC track with a transformer?
Hi Ernest . No batterys in the TGV it's running on 12V DC with a Lima motor in the power car. Regards Rowland.
Do you know how to fix a split axel if you don't have a replacement. I was looking for a replacement but can't find any in the UK.
Hi Andrew I have fixed split plastic axels with the following steps: Remove wheelsets from loco. Pull apart each axel. Soak parts in household degreaser. Clean with toothbrush and dry parts. Use epoxy two part glue. Mix a small amount sets in 5 mins. Apply to ends of plastic axel. Only a little needed. Push in wheels, one then the other. Clean excess glue from spit axel. Leave to set for 48 - 72 hours. Hope this helps. Regards Rowland.
What repair details ?
Hi Jock. fair comment I have had a listen and there is not a lot of detail. Basically she was a non runner because the plastic insert in the wheel was bulging out fouling the rods so I removed this and then aligned the wheel with the others by twisting it on the axel and then she ran well again as the video shows. Hope this has helped. Regards Rowland.
You have put the connecting rods upside down. When the loco is on the track, the knuckle should be facing up and not down.
Nice details 💯🔥🔥🔥👀
If I may ask. I have the same model and it was bought semi brand new and with the original motor at %50 speed on the controller it goes super slow on straights and around curves no matter if they are the 3rd radius Hornby curves or the 9 inch Bachmann EZ-track curves. So my question is how fast does yours go at %50 speed on the controller? Mine struggles
Hi my answer is that I no longer have that engine but when large Locos need servicing the speed suffers at low controller settings. It needs a service.
You can convert nkp 779 to dcc and sound
Hi I don't do digital control but drop me an email my address is on the description. click the arrow on the home page after model Locos repaired and running........
You stuck the tender body on with glue ?, wow that should make it easy to service the motor .
With tiny spots of glue at the corners when a service is needed it's easy to break the seal and remove the body which was loose on the tender frames not ideal when running the loco or picking it up. Regards RGW
This is the second train of mine Rowland has sorted another brilliant job done thank you
Glad you're happy thanks for your comments Gary.
Fantastic job a massive thank you for sorting my none runner top bloke.
I Have the Same Thing Just The 600 and The Rods Are Messed up and I Do not Know if I Can Fix it
Are both sides damaged? Send me close up pictures of the damage and I will advise. My email address is: rowlandgeorgewithers@gmail.com
Recently picked up one of these myself. Which screws would i have to take out to access the gears to lubricate them?
Hi is it a Bachmann loco? If so the internal gears are plastic and should be ok just put small drops of light oil on the axels and rods without taking off the body Regards RGW.
that may be why my britania nrver worked well
Sorry to hear that electrical faults are hard to find you need a meter to isolate the problem. Thanks for your comment RGW
thanks for you concern i traded that loco 20 odd years ago @@RGWmodels
Ok cheers!
Great loco
Just out of curiosity, does running a double header with analogue models cause issues/strain on motors due to differences in power and speed?
For this train you need much more space, for each corner of your room, that would be very impressive
I agree, but it's only a test track that I can put away when not in use. Regards Rowland 🙂
Hey. Can I please use some of your footage in my films? I will credit you for it.
Hi Andrew thanks for asking, you can use my footage in your films. Regards Rowland
stuttering on the points, can be sorted by cleaning the copper pickups and the backs of wheels
Very nice indeed. Different style of video but it made the 'point' clear enough! Excuse the pun, won't you? All the best. Cheers!
I'd love to know how too get the body off!
The body is attached with two screws one under the front bogie the other is actually the drawbar pin which will unscrew using a small socket or nut runner or pliers. Hope this helps thanks for your interest.
@@RGWmodels Excellent, thank you very much
Would this apply to the Wrenn castle and 8F as well
Yes they are of similar construction.
Good repairs. I have found these to be reliable. You can get replacement cogs for the motor spindle but they need pressing on Thanks for showing. Regards Paul.
Thanks for your reply Paul. I have found that if you clean the end of the cog and motor shaft and apply a small blob of epoxy glue, careful not to put on to much. When it hardens in 12 hours a solid repair will lock the cog to the shaft. Regards Rowland.
best thing is to use the brass cogs not the silver alloy one and no need to use epoxy
@@vikingsmb agreed the brass cogs are the best. That's what I use. Cheers Paul.
never expected to be the first view! keep up the good work!
Thanks ! Hope to upload another later today.
I had the same problem with my Lima King. Running well now. Glad yours is sorted. Cheers Paul
Good to hear Paul.
Very good layout
Thanks! see my earlier layouts and guides to building them just scroll back. Regards Rowland
How do you find a Union Pacific that hasn’t got the doc sound and smoke on it because I’m struggling to find one?
Nice!. I recently bought one at my local train show for $55 . Runs like a dream.
Yes the artics run well on my OO gauge tracks not so with 4 - 8 - 4 FEF 800s.
I had one of these in the 80s, was a great runner
I am afraid that if that bulging was caused by Mazak rot, this is only a temporary repair. As the metal of the weight will continue to degrade.
Thanks for your reply 🙂 you could be right but I think it is probably due to them being removed from the mould to quickly.
Dear withers can I have the track plan for this layout of yours please. Thanks Victor

might be worth getting new axles for it, peters spares do them, as the axles fail on the mainline locos
