Common missteps in designing gender equality initiatives - and how to avoid them
Trying to “fix” women rather than systems. Failing to go beyond describing the numbers. Being overly optimistic about progress. These are three missteps that are often made when designing and implementing gender equality initiatives.
In this special talk hosted by the King’s Global Institute for Women’s Leadership and King’s Business School, Professor Michelle Ryan, director of our sister institute at the Australian National University, analysed these common missteps and revealed findings from new research that proposes alternative ways of approaching gender equality initiatives.
About Michelle
Professor Michelle Ryan is a world-renowned gender equality expert, Professor of Social and Organisational Psychology, and the inaugural Director of the Global Institute for Women’s Leadership at the Australian National University.
Her work centres on understanding the psychological processes underlying workplace gender inequality and designing and implementing innovative and evidence-based interventions to increase gender equality.
Michelle, along with her colleague Professor Alex Haslam, coined the term “glass cliff” - the phenomenon that describes how women and members of other minority groups are often placed in risky leadership positions, where the chances of failure are higher than usual.

Gender equality at work: what can companies and governments do to accelerate progress?
zhlédnutí 652Před rokem
Companies have long been talking about the need to improve gender diversity in the workplace, yet change has generally been glacially slow. Gender inequality is embedded in societies - and in some places is even inscribed in law. It is therefore unrealistic to assume companies can resolve this challenge in isolation. Government action is needed to support meaningful and sustained change. This w...

Emma, I love & admire you so much for the contribution you lovingly make to society through your giftedness. Please understand that parents & grandparents are on hyper alert & truly fearful of what is happening in the current broken society that is directly targeting our babies. Parents are the ones being condemned for protecting their kids. Those enforcing confused societal a-gendas hold NO accountibility or accept to carry any consequences later down the track. Please only keep doing what you do so well ❤

Hey, remember when embezzler and backstabber Julia Gillard and child trafficker Hillary Clinton embraced at the Clinton Foundation event dressed in blue and white stripes and a gold pantsuit, coincidentally the same design as Jeffrey Epstein's Temple? We know who you are. Symbolism will be your downfall. Run and hide like the rats you are. You control nothing and are a disgrace to women and humanity everywhere.

How is this woman not in prison yet. Anthony wiener insurance files about what her and bill were up to. CIGN Emails on a server less protected than google. Benghazi, all of the mysterious deaths tied to incidents where the people knew too much about the Clinton’s, Epstein island, uranium one scandal where Clinton foundation received 250,000,000 from anonymous donor to foundation right after uranium one deal. Hillary destruction of young woman’s reputations after bill raped them and they were going to go public. When is enough enough

Great panel. So interesting to note that women leaders face almost the same barriers irrespective of the location or region. A big kudos to Julia Gilliard for taking the bold step to lead this initiative. Looking forward to the next conversation where men will be at the table talking about women.
