Watched frank sing this in the Plough at Clapham Common many times. He used to sing whisky in the jar and substitute Captain Farrell for Frank O’Farrell. Good times ❤
Very cool. I still sing it the same way as a result of him Gaynor!
Just listened to this fabulous tune again today - it was originally on Frank O'Farrell's LP "Trying To Live It Down". Never fails to move me. RIP Frank, you were one of the best.
My Dad knew Frank. He was also a singer.. my Mum also remembers him fondly. Danny Adams aka Barry Adams. I was born in 1977. My Dad spoke of him to me growing up.
Nice to hear Jamie. I myself was born in late 1974.

This is the most beautiful rendition of this song I love it. Thank you for this.
My father used to take me to this little pub to listen to them play. They gave us a cassette back in the early 90s. My father listened to that cassette up until his passing last year. Thank you for that.
Fantastic version of The Fureys song. Frank makes it entirely his own. Just great!
Hi Lyn - I can send you CDs of his albums if you want. You can email me at: dylanofarrell@gmail.com

Raph is my step aunt
Hi Sally - any way we can get in touch? Raph was my step Aunt (kinda). I knew her well from 1985-1998. Please email me: dylanofarrell@gmail.com Thanks
I have a copy of this 45. It's on a strange custom (mostly plain) label Guitarman Records. The flip "It's Alright" is great! Totally different than the side you posted (which is the flip side).
Guitarman Recrods was Frank's own label. Yes, he wrote that funk track "It's Alright" as the B-Side. Maybe I should upload when I find the time to get around to it!
@@dylanofarrell8581 I made a video of it...will load it in the next few days
@@MrRockinStars Cool. Thanks @rockin stars! Frank was my dad, as you probably guessed. Where are you based?

Raphaelle my beautiful gentle sister who sang with Erin’s pride now has dementiia and is living In a nursing.. home in bray co Wicklow. No one ever visits from her singing days.i am beyond sadness for her.an awful end for such a wonderful vibrant person .
Very sorry to hear about Raphael, as a fellow musician I knew her in New York.,,I had no idea she was not felling well. I can tell you her name comes up frequently still in conversations.. And she is missed around the new York area.
I have always loved Frank's version of this fantastic song. Take's me back to happy memories of The Wheatsheaf pub in Tooting, where Frank often used to play. My last memory of him is seeing him there in 1983 just before he left for the USA. What a fantastic singer he was. I have a homage to him in my hallway - his signed album, single and his original promotional poster for ARC records. RIP. Posted
Hi Lyn - I’m Frank’s son and grew up in Tooting. I’d love it connect to hear stories about the Wheatsheaf. I went to St. Anselm’s. You can message me directly on here, at least I think :)
@@dylanofarrell8581 Hi Dylan, so nice to hear from you. I have listened to your dad playing many times now on CZcams and it makes me so very happy and also very sad. He was so much a part of my life in the 70s/early '80s when my mum, dad and me used to go and watch him play. We saw him countless times. My mum worked in The Wheatsheaf pub in Tooting Bec from time to time, where your dad played regularly, near to where you went to school. My brother says that your dad was playing in The Gardeners Arms pub just off in Northcote Road, in Battersea, in 1975 the night he asked my sister-in-law to marry him, so we all go back a long time and have a bit of history. One particular good memory for me was seeing your dad support The Dubliners in a club in Ilford, Essex in about 1982. It was a great night, we went by coach on an organised trip from the Wheatsheaf. Your dad had a manager called Clive, I recall, and he sorted out the arrangements. My mum, who is sadly no longer with us, was a huge admirer of your dad. She first met him when she worked behind the bar in The Surrey Tavern pub on Wandsworth Common in about 1973 and I worked there too in my school holidays (under age, of course). I remember meeting your dad there whilst I was serving behind the bar too. For some reason , he was known as "Major", something to do with his connection with the army, we were never sure exactly. I will E Mail you with some more memories if you would like me too. You must miss him a great deal. Best wishes to you and your family. Lyn x
@@lynfield1261 Thank you so much for your stories. I grew up in Tooting Bec and know all the spots you speak of. They probably called my dad 'Major' as he spent a bunch of time in the army as a young man in Germany. His obituary is below. You may have seen already, but I'm posting just in case you haven't. So proud to hear he impacted a cherished moment in your the life of your family members! Music makes the world go round! www.irishecho.com/2017/12/frank-ofarrell/
@@dylanofarrell8581 Was a huge fan of your fathers!! I grew up with this album and saw Erins Pride many times are the Catskills Irish festival. I cannot find the full album for purchase and curious if you know where I may purchase one?
@@dylanofarrell8581 I knew your father very well from all the local pubs around here. He went out with my best friend for a while. We had many a good lockin in the old days and had great fun. I loved this song and also his version of me and Bobby McGee. He would always sing those 2 songs for me. He was a lovely, great man xxxx
I first met Frank when he was a customer in The Surrey Tavern in Wandsworth Common and I worked behind the bar, must have been 1973. Then I used to watch Frank when he was a " one man band", playing in the pubs around Tooting, Clapham and Battersea, 1977 onwards. A very special performer, he should have made it as a star. One Day at a Time would have done it for him. RIP.
Hi Lynn - I thought you might be interested in this if you haven't read it yet: www.irishecho.com/2017/12/frank-ofarrell/
I used to watch Frank O'Farrell play regularly in the pubs around Tooting, Battersea and Clapham. When he went to the USA in 1983 a little bit of me was left bereft. He was such a great performer and brought such joy to my family.
Raphaelle still has a lovely voice today
A most beautiful, poignant song from a soulful singer.
I just heard of Frank’s passing. I knew him when he first arrived in NY and he was a special man.
Hi Maggie. I'm Frank's only child and live in California. Would love to hear more about when he first arrived in NY! My email is dylanofarrell@yahoo.com if you ever care to connect. No big deal if not. Cheers, Dylan
I was so happy to find this version. My mother loved Erin's Pride and became quite good friends them. She now battles Advanced Alzheimer's but this brought a smile to her face! Thanks for sharing this!
I love it also. I met them a couple of times when they performed at Irish Festivals in South Florida. Are they still around and performing? I think they were based in Long Island. This song reminds me of Mom's story of their Mom's running a boarding house in Manhattan with boarders being Irish immigrants, family, and being like song suggest. There were even one or two "sandhogs". (constructing subways). :-) Song exudes that atmosphere.
I am so pleased to find Frank O'Farrell published at last on you tube. Loved him since the late 70s when he performed as a One Man Band in the pubs of Tooting, South London. Great singer. Sadly missed.

Detailed obituary. Quite a talented guy: www.irishecho.com/2017/12/frank-ofarrell/
I knew Frank O 'Farrell many years ago when he used to come in the Surrey Tavern in Wandsworth Common 1973/1974 and myself and my family followed him round many a pub where he performed in Battersea, Tooting, Clapham and Vauxhall. My mum, Dulcie, was his biggest fan. A true musician and professional artist. And a lovely bloke. His album cover is on my wall and I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I last saw him perform in The Wheatsheaf pub in Tooting Bed in 1983, shortly before he went to the USA for good and I have missed his music ever since.
Hi Lyn, My name is Dylan O'Farrell, I'm Frank's only son. I grew up in Tooting Bec and was born in 1974! It's so endearing to know your mum was a big fan.
