      Thank you for watching! If you add top-level bookmarks to your chapters, you can then choose the Top-Level Bookmarks option from the split menu.

    How about turning track changes completely OFF? How do you do that? I'm working on a project and can't format the paragraph because of the track changes button that won't allow me to format the paragraph to a different line spacing,, errrr

      Thank you for watching! If you want to turn off tracking, select the Review tab and then deselect the Track Changes button. You can also toggle tracking on and off with the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + E.

    I found it!!! I asked on your latest video if you had a tutorial for this, and I found it. Thank you for doing these!!! I'm a novice editor/proofreader and I'm learning as I go. My mom is an author, and she knows I've always been good at proofreading and writing, so she's been hiring me to edit her books. I've really stunk it up the first few times, and it's taking me such a long time. The current book I'm working on for her is VERY important (and awesome!), and is the first in a long series. I really want to do well on this one, but my Office knowledge memory has a lot of holes in it. I was an executive assistant a long time ago, and haven't used it since then, until I helped edit my mom's first book 2 years ago. I also have ADHD and am on the spectrum, so my brain is chaos and I get easily distracted. For example, I had finished chapters 1-12 a week ago, and sent it to her to go over, and to share with her writer's group that night. Somehow, I COMPLETELY forgot to include chapters 8 and 11!! It's easier for me to stay focused when each chapter is saved in a different document, so I've just been selecting all and copying and pasting a finished chapter into the full edit. Not only did I forget to add those chapters (which were specifically the ones she was excited to share with her group), I also forgot that I'd originally separated chaptera with a page break (no chapter number at the beginning of each chapter so I can get a more accurate word count...that was my thought process, anyway), but after chapter 4 or 5, I began to separate the chapters with a dotted line by typing an asterisk five times (*****) and hitting enter (I figured that out accidentally! Lol). Anyway, it was a big mess, but I eventually cleaned it up. One of the reasons it's taking me SO long to finish is that she wants me to try to cut her word count down from about 80,000 to less than 75,000 so it can technically be included in a specific genre...I can't remember which genre or why. 😳 I really want to get better at this, and your videos have been a big help! Do you happen to have any instructional or educational videos on how to proofread/edit books like a professional? Or do you know anyone else who does? Thanks again!

      I am glad you found the information you needed! I don't have any tutorials on how to be an editor. However, if you are in the United States, one national organization to look into is the Editorial Freelancers Association (www.the-efa.org/), which offers a variety of basic and advanced courses.     Good morning Erin! I was wondering if you have or could create a tutorial on how to have different headers on consecutive pages. For instance, I am editing a book for my mother, and I'm trying to put the chapter numbers in the header, but I don't know how to do it. When I change the header on the next chapter (all chapters in the same word document), it changes the header on all the pages, including the previous pages. I'm embarrassed that I don't remember how to do this: I was an Executive Assistant back in my prime, but haven't really used Office products since then and I'm out of practice! Anyway, thanks for all you do! ❤

    It appears that Microsoft Word Version 16.87 (24071426) for Macintosh provided to us at Arizona State University no longer has the option to disable Modern Comments in the General dialog box under File/Preferences. I used the old style to help my students adjust their documents for two-column articles where both columns need to be the same length. Is there some way to give comments without changing the layout of the page?

    I am in word but i literally have none of the tabs you are talking about, no text box option besides drawing, no text wrapping option, and i cant even move my text box around the page it only changes sizes

      Great question! You can add text to the start of the page linking to the bookmarks within your document. However, I'm not aware of a way to automatically generate the bookmark links as you can a table of contents. Thank you for watching!

    Hi, is there a way make a style that forces no spacing before the paragraph? I have a document where everything is defined with 6 points space after the paragraph, but I want that, when I set a paragraph in a particular style, there is no space with the previous paragraph. I set the style to leave no space with the previous paragraph but, as the previous document is set to leave 6 points after it, the only way I found is to manually change this every time I use the new style.

      Thank you for watching! You can create a style with custom paragraph spacing. Place your cursor in a normal paragraph. Select the Home tab > Styles dialog box launcher > New Style > Format > Paragraph. From there, you can set the before and after spacing for your new style. Note, however, that this new style won’t remove spacing from the surrounding paragraphs. I wish you all the best with your Word project!

    In case anyone is wondering, I run Word 2007. With a few very minor changes, these steps also work in 2007. The relevance is there and the minor differences are easy to figure out.

      Thank you for watching! If you are using Word for Mac, you don’t have to take any extra steps to include Track Changes in your PDF. Simply save your Word file with your Track Changes visible as a PDF. Your comments and Track Changes should automatically appear in the PDF. I wish you all the best with your writing project!
