So you are moving your hands fast to make it sound fast and also you’re probably playing on lighter strings compared to regular bass guitar strings because Victor Wooten plays on lighter strings so he can move faster and pick and slap not to dog you but as a bass/guitar player myself when it’s moving fast, it sounds fast

late to the party but what's your thoughts on 3 and 4 finger styles? i have always used as many fingers as possible to extend my playtime. usually alternating between pairs. when i played a lot i could get extremely close to equal tone and impact and some lines i found suited 3 or (rarely)4 finger styles.

Great lesson, I strongly suggest however that you eliminate the slap bass transition which is not just annoying but which effectively erases any mental retension of what we were just listening to. No offense intended - quite the contrary - I only mention this because I think your lessons are worth the effor !

Thank you Charles, great video. In terms of DAW I've been using reaper for years, and that is very impressive. And as far as clipping is concerned, I've purchased the Zoom UAC 232, a 32-bit float audio interface, for a price equivalent to that of the scarlett focusrite 2i2, and I've solved the problem forever. And since equalizing is one of the most difficult problem to solve, I've also purchased Gullfoss eq plugin (which is not that cheap, but it's worth buying), which basically does the vast majority of the eq job by itself with a very comprehensive interface. Those are the three main valuable things (together with my bass and a good compressor vst) I use, together with many others things that might change from time to time. Not wanting to be a producer but wanting to remain a simple bass player with the goal of independently recording my own music, I have found that certain technologies are crucial to producing music that is also worth listening to from a quality perspective.

Hey Charles, Can't seem to find the dimensions in terms of sheer length of the instrument anywhere, could you tell me the length of the instrument from the rear strap pin to the tip of the head stock? Or anyone here who has one please lemme know!

Played a similar bass line to the 3rd one, from Muse - Knights of Cydonia on that game Rocksmith. I found that a 3 finger technique works even better, though I come from a piano background. What do you think about 3 fingers? Also that video got posted on my birthday. Yaay!

Please DON'T put the canned complicated fancy bass line as an interlude between the simpler things you're discussing and demonstrating... it totally pushes what you just demonstrated out of my auditory buffers, and I keep getting lost.

"Talent" is a lie, it's a word created by people who think that an individual who is better than them is not better because of the time and practice they put into a certain subject. But because they have natural born skill. Not only is that stupid for an infant to somehow develop an abiy in slapping bass for example. But it's rude to the people who actually spend time practicing their art. So if you say that Charles is good at what he does because he was born with it, than maybe you should practice being less pathetic.

The more I watched Charles, the more I wanted to get a Bass to start learning. But how likely and realistically could I play like this eventually, and after how long? 🥲 😂

I always enjoy your videos. When you were talking about hitting the root notes at the beginning instead of a 3rd, I really appreciated your comment about changing the energy of the song "if you don't know what you're doing". That's what I love about the bass, tremendous power to change the feel of a song. During a performance, I won't mess around much. During rehearsal, I experiment all the time, seeing what feels good, what works and what doesn't. Loads of fun!
