I loved this team!. I remember the signing of Robbie keane like it was yesterday.
I was at this game with a group of student friends as I was an undergrad at Portsmouth at the time. It was an all ticket game which was rare in those days. Leeds looked a v good team though I recall the first half being pretty drab. Second half would have seen a decent Leeds win but for the cock up near the end. Looking at it now 33 years later, I am a bit surprised that the final goal was allowed to stand after a robust challenge!

How did this team not win any trophies??? Magical performance, team packed with quality in every area. A lot of home grown talent as well.
A disastrous players night out in Leeds , the subsequent police investigations in to it ,followed by the court cases,all played out in the full media spotlight might have had something to do with it ? Hindsight is a wonderful thing,but if the younger ones had just kept out of trouble off the pitch ,a trophy would surely have been won.

If only to have a squad like this one again! Any number of decent finishers. It's almost odd that they won nothing, but it was all so short lived. O'Leary was a genius. Shame on the Leeds board (as is still the case today). Thanks for the great memories (-:

It's a well documented story. The Ridsdale gamble that almost cost Leeds their club. Brilliant squad. Not a weak player on it. Imagine having the likes of Keane, Viduka, and Kewell up front these days! Instead, we're fearing Watford tomorrow & praying that we'll stay up.

@@danwhitaker5168 I personally enjoyed watching the bielsa side over the last few years, and I’ve never seen an atmosphere like there was in the last few games in the championship games plus play offs..The football is the most exciting I’ve ever seen in 45 years..But I do agree the players individually were of better quality sure, but this is more of a complete team...We have bielsa to thank for that...!!

Oliver Dacourt, what a player he was for Leeds. Watching him live, instead of on tv, his movement off the ball was incredible, his tackle success made LUFC unplayable at times. MOT
always said he's one of the greats at elland rd , but doesn't get the recognition he deserves..quality player

if you would have come in the last two seasons, you see football like this at elland rd..if bielsa was manager of that old team im sure they would have won everything..been watching leeds since 1978, but the present team play some of the best football I have ever seen week in week out...see you in the prem next year ..

@@JohnSmith-zv8km I don't agree me and my son have only missed a few home games whilst under bielsa, I do agree that the other team had better individual footballers but the tempo and the way the team play under bielsa is amazing..Every game is like custards last stance for the opposition, there just relentless at coming forward...😁
