I can't wait till these musicians are phased out for more modern musicians. Most of the people doing ratings and comparisons are still living in the nostalgia of their past. In 20 years, the world will look back on bassists like Flea, Les Claypool, Vic Wooten, and realize them for surpassing the people that inspired them. Sure there was talent in the 60s and 70s and even later, but as we've seen in every instrument, the modern era of music has left what was once considered revolutionary in the past. Drummers like John Bonham were fantastic, but even drumming has become so much more technical and precise. Guitarists like Hendrix, Page, and SRV are being outdone by guitarists like Tim Henson, Misha Mansoor, and Eddie Pickard, John Petrucci, Michael Romeo. These modern musicians have dominated with a new wave of talent and technicality that would have made musicians in the 60s brains explode from the sheer technical prowess. The things our fathers raved about as the peak of talent have become so basic and diluted that as society ages, the new 60 year old dudes writing articles will have grown up in the 80s and into more modern eras. I watch this video and I am so underwhelmed by the "talent" and "skill" on display here, that it truly makes me hope that shit like this goes away all together.

From 0:47 to 1:07 Jaco is playing the theme from a 1954 movie, "The High and the Mighty". I am certain he would seen it as it was popular with anyone who loved flying in airplanes. I would know because I was his best friend from 4th--7th grade, and played keyboard in his first band "The Sonics" which he formed after the Beatles arrived in February of 1964. Peace my brothers and sisters. Everyone even then could tell that he was an extraordinary person, smartest in the class, best visual artists, best at sports, and by 1965 a lady killer.

Jaco is the greatest musician of all time no questions asked. He is the greatest bassist and instrumentalist to ever live by a landslide. His playing ability is like no other. It is very similar to Jimi Hendrix on guitar. I am actually named after Jaco myself. He’s by far one of the most underrated musicians in the world. His baselines are absolutely beautiful.

My wife was friends with Jaco when he was with Dixie Dregs and never listened to his music despite being offered backstage tickets for free on many occasions. Jaco left a black 1964 Gibson EB0 at her appointment and offered to give her lessons for free, she was in college and didn't have the time. 15 years later in 1998, she was a new bass player and she walked into my bedroom for the first time and asked why I had a picture of Jaco on my wall?! I put on his self titled solo album and she simply said, maybe I should have taken him up on the lessons.

The sounds coming from Jaco and his bass at the very beginning before the camera pans over to him are just so ethereal and spacey, it doesn't even sound like a bass at first. The rest of the sounds that follow are lovely as well, just as a bass player always wished I could see how he achieved more of those crazy harmonic bends and that crazy slide noise.

The Pagannini of the bass. In 1975 I wanted the learn to play the bassguitar, as Entwistle said, and had a learningbook of Pastorius. I ended up playing the guitar. Thankfully I didn't have a learnningbook about guitarplaying of Jimmy Page cause'I would have ended playing with myself ;-) Jacco is 2nd to none as a bassguitarplayer. Unsurpassed.

I play 15 years guitar and I dont know why this is so hyped. I mean it sounds like crap. Honestly, know one of you like to listen to that over and over. Its a shitty chord progression with a weak solo. He has some good stuff, but everything needs a certain flow that sticks to your brain, a vibe that follows a shiny astethic

The length of time you have been playing guitar for has nothing to do with the fact you don’t like jaco pastorius 😂 chordal changes aren’t everything sometimes it’s nice to have fun with you instrument🙄 the majority of these people paid to see jaco specifically they know how he plays and I would imagine that’s the kind of thing they would expect i doubt your gigs are as full as that.
