I can't think of any new technology introduced in my lifetime that would mostly make our lives worse. AI is the first one. There are some worthwile scientific uses for it, but that's not what gets the money. Instead companies are desperatelly trying to use gen AI and it's making Internet and entertainment just plain worse, with no real upside.

AI are actually dumb, there like a worse version of Personal Assistants, from how you're talking I can tell you have never used AI, I have and I can say it's very bad.

WHATS ACTUALLY KEEPING AI FROM BEING USEFULL: - RAG (Retrival augmented generation) only works if there is enoth context to understand whats supposed to be fetched - Vision and Action Models are not good enoth to navigate and use Native UI thats designed for Humans leading to AI Agents relying on API and Function calls wish are hard to create and enojing to add to the agent (+ you kinda need to pull the right tool semantically or the Agents get overwealmed by all the tools) - Because Agents cant use your PC etc natively they are basically limited to answering Questions with a fixed Knoledgebase... not very usefull - Because LLMs require expensive APIs and are usually to big to run on a local device with good enoth results they are to expensive for general automations The only things AI is realy excelling at atm is: - creating and updating Documentation especialy in programming - giving boilerplate answers instead of wasting time googling super specific things that a llm can answer quicker - brainstorimng or bouncing off idears to go through all the potential implementation options when programming - specialised AI Models for Mesh generation Textures Images etc are already replacing expensive Designers and 3d Artists (Game Production is getting cheaper on paper) So yes there is a lot of Hype but Ai Agents and Robotics can and probably will automate most tasks and jobs in the next 20 years or sooner. We already see Agents navigating UI programming then itterating on there code to fix bugs and generating unit tests. Giving them a general Goal and then having a Swarm of 50 Agent Clusters that go and try to implement it will be unmatched in speed. You then just automatically test and validate the best output and itterate on it again. Implement Feature X for my game > Drafts potential Implementation idears > trys to create the Feature and test the solution > picks the best result > tests it > commits it > suggests the next features to add etc. You can do something among this line in any domain from stacking shelfs to jobs in heathcare etc. Define the goal > try all the options > itterate and improve on the output > use the result as referenz for best practice in that domain > repeat. Even works for creating new tools the agent can use itself in case it cant find a tool for the job. The next 5 Years will be wild realy looking forward to it as a developer. And no AI will not make developers obsolete. Thats like saying Guns make the police obsolete. A programmer that can quickly itterate implement and think about the project on a higher level is just way more productive. For now Devs will still have to compensate for Agents short commings like RAG and Context. (Just because the Agent has a Embedding with the Information NEVER means he is actually using it in the right situation. They will ignore limitations or forget the overall strukture of a project unlike a developer.)

Nearly five minutes in... an AI gaming laptop, as they're designing them now, do more than just have a chat bot key... they have what amounts to an entire secondary GPU dedicated to neural processing of more than just text. It can natively just... run NPC's... without any additional processing and generate images much more efficiently and surreal than a GPU... this is actually huge for games and your downplaying it. Just cause the gaming industry has always been slow in game development? Just wait for them to release GTA6 LOL

I'm a Chat GPT+ subscriber and I'd sooner get rid of Netflix before GPT. I'm a writer and I have serious problems with organization due to ADHD. Chat GPT is completely invaluable to my workflow. Chat GPT doesn't write my stories for me, but I can organize my thoughts easily and have them relayed back to me when I need it. I've tried writing things down, I've tried making separate documents, I've tried stickies and whiteboards. Chat GPT is just the best option I've found. I don't like the indiscriminate chatbot hate because there are great use cases for them... But I get the fatigue of having it shoved in every possible digital space

It's training AI about what humans buy so that businesses can more accurately target us with ads, which they've told us plainly. I use google every day, snd have since the beginning. It has changed as things do, but I'd actually say it gives me more accurate results than ever. I took a picture of some scat the other day next to an otter slide, it accurately said it was otter scat. Thats pretty accurate if you ask me. Works Like a charm, every time. I have no idea what this conspiracy theory is about but o guarantee it is not about Google's actual search engine. It's something hokey.

People is addicted to social media because it feeds their ego and few things are mare powerful than the ego, so I doubt that a shift in smartphone usage might happen, its just going to be a very small percent of people, they will be the vegans of the tech world.

Today I spent 40-ish minutes typing in a BASIC program into GWBASIC on MS-DOS running from a floppy diskette, the program was typed from paper. It was a great time.

I disagree - after chatgpt generated lots of articles for me to share, and even walked me thru how to fix my LVM problem on my linux server. It was actually like talking to an expert, "now run this command and paste me the output.." "ok, you need to type this:" and it was a resounding success 10 minutes later.

What? I use the terminal everyday. Developers use them a lot. GUI is great and it solves a lot of problems, but not all problems require a GUI.

The first thing would be for people to start realizing that AI as in Artificial Intelligence does NOT EXIST. Anything we have today is Automated Intelligence at best.
