The Proximity Effect
zhlédnutí 1,6KPřed 2 lety
The Proximity Effect in audio is defined as an increase in bass or low frequency response when a sound source is close to a directional or cardioid microphone. In this video Bryan shows you visually what the proximity effect is and how you can use it to your advantage. If your vocalist or sound source is too close to the microphone it will result in a big, boomy recording. If your vocalist or s...

Why Do I Have So Much Latency?
zhlédnutí 489Před 2 lety
I hear the same question often. Why do I have so much latency when I’m recording? Today I will show you a few simple settings in Pro Tools, that can be applied to any other DAW software, to minimize latency while recording. The #1 reason... Buffer Size. Make sure you are as low as your system can handle. 32 or 64 are best. These settings depend on the power of your computer. Choose the lowest s...

zhlédnutí 745Před 2 lety
Today we are comparing a StewMac T-Style Guitar Kit built by Bill Roof, to several big name guitars to see how it stacks up. Bill felt the components that came with the basic kit were of low quality, so he decided to order better components. By the end of the project, Bill had replaced every kit component. All components were purchased via StewMac except the pickups, which were purchased at Gui...

the al schmitt and andrew scheps speakers.
Can we hear the tonal difference between them and the Genelec?
❤ much love❤
You can tell instantly. The A mic is sharp even without a lot of sibilance, it feels restricted with a flat sense to it, the B mic is dynamic, very openly detailed with a dimensional quality. Does this matter? Only in a mix and only to the engineer haha
I chose a because it’s smoother (meaning I chose it as the one that I would use as a producer.)
The ugly things is come with the emulated transformer. Than the compress function is ok just not make the ends epic.
whereas this works very well for snare and kik, it doesn't help much for other instruments like cymbals or hihat where the wanted sound of often not even as loud as the undesirable sound. Or for a jazzy snare hitting multiple very light shots or for brushes. Nice technique anyway
Thank you for this video! This is awesome !✊🏽
Well done video!
no f-ing sh:t
That Sm7 does not sound very good. Lets be honest.
Next time do the same words kind of hard to tell
plugins jus don’t deliver enough power tbh. there great for correcting but relying only on plugins to mix vocals is unrealistic.
How do you get so good signal for the acoustic guitar? I'm getting really low signal and it's hard to record anything even if the mic is really close to the guitar :/ I need to crank up my Komplete Audio 6 input gain a lot.
I‘d love to have this nice Song!
The way he broke it down like that. And rhymed like that is very hard so it takes alot of natural talent. Do do that on that wonderful sound setup ❤
The secret is a good pre amp.
I recently bought a Shure SM57 after hearing that the recording quality was very clear. However, once I recorded my first session there was a lot of hiss and it did not sound clear at all. So I used Adobe Audition to remove the unwanted hiss, and it just revealed the guitar audio to be extremely muddy and sounded like it was recorded on iPhone or Laptop microphones. Does anyone know how I can record it clearer?
Hey, did you fixed your problem? It's very interesting to know. I'm trying this today actually.
@@ElDami Not entirely. I found it easiest just to make two recordings of the guitar and overlap them. It makes the recording sound stronger. However, an individual guitar recording with hiss removed is sounds very metallic and muddy. Maybe it's just the microphone.
He's got an awesome gig. Nameless Ghoul
Way too bright imho. I'd just unthicken in the low mids a wee bit from the recorded sound. YMMV.
How do we do this in FL Studio?
Thr sm7b probably took a lot more gain maybe? Also a lot more self noise considering? Sounded great still especially at price
Basically Glyn Johns method. This is how he mic’d Bonhams Kit.
Great content! One of the best videos I've seen.
But ….but the second sample at the end sounds better to me!?! It sounds more natural and uncolored! ……..just like my amp’s sound! 😂 🍻
congrats for video, what's this microphone?
I have to say, I feel like I could hear a tiny bit more clarity and creaminess on the hardware. Some of the sibilance came through sounding digital with the plugin to me. But in a blind test i'm not sure that i could pick out the difference.
Never judge a book by its cover. Signed Myron Grombecher.. Buddy Holly rocks those drums
HOW DO YOU GET SUCH A CLEAN SOUND??? IM USING A SIMILAR SETUP AND THE BLEED IS OVERWHELMING
Nice one...thank you
Very close...the Bock has more air/natural reverb release when the vocalist offers more pressure to the words were the SM7B sounds really dry even when there is more vocal pressure at the capsule.
tom sound so fat even though they're not close mic'd.
Nice video, what type of pencil microphone are you using in the video to record the guitar
The Mid-Highs are so beatiful on the Hardware
Excellent mix!
Almost a decade late to the video, but I think you should have explained about mic placement, and the whole setup you were using in details. As far as I know, it's not easy to get a good sounding guitar recording like the one you have in your video with SM57, people often times experience high hiss/noises or just the volume is too low.
Love the video man! Great content on the channel! You're really pragmatic and down to earth
💞 P r o m o S M!
It's all about the source. Didi's voice isn't extremely dynamic or varying in range in this clip. It's when you get a bigger, more dynamic voice with a wide range that the Bock will really shine. At the same time, the SM7B has become such an icon in it's own right, because of the countless tracks its been on. If you want to scream right into it you can. You can scream at the Bock, but you need to understand how to place it and have decent mic technique to pull that off, or the mic will distort or sound harsh. Still if Adele or Celine Dion shows up, grab the Bock. ;-P
Great comment thank you!
Was the console eq/comp flat for both? Pretty cool that the SM7b sounded that good.
Yes it was flat for both.
More emotions through sm7b...i feel it
I noticed the difference, but TBH the SM7b had some nice feel to it.
what daw are you using?
Lovely tip!
Agree with these guys, the plug is brighter up top, much like my stock wa-76 hardware actually But the plugs not bad considering the $$ and I’ve used it instead of the Warm Audio more than I care to admit
Wow this is really great advice
Nice, would be cool to hear it in a mix.
Thanks for this. I definitely recommend all of our apprentices get at least one SM57 or 58. Trying to build up a good mic tool box and have $500? Get 5 mics, starting with a 57. So useful for so many things.
Great video, i have both the 57 and the U87. The only caviat of the 57 is that it is too sensitive to plosives. Get a pop stopper or a wind screen and you could make decent vocal recordings.
More low end on hardware, weird!?
