TPM Episode 390: Red Gerard, Pro Snowboarder, Olympic Gold Medalist
Red Gerard has won every slopestyle event out there: The Olympics, X Games, Dew Tour, World Cups, Grand Prix, you get the idea and Red is only 23 years old. While his life will be defined by his Olympic Gold, Red’s snowboarding career isn’t all about contests. He’ss just as comfortable taking his trick vocabulary to the backcountry and laying it down for his film segments. The beauty of Red is that while he’s young, he’s also kind of throwback. A kid who takes pride in both competing, filming, and having a good time off the hill…On the podcast we talk about coming up in a big family, snowboarding, getting screwed by judges, sponsorship, contests and so much more. Chris Waker asks the Inappropriate Questions

The X Games is the pinnacle event in action sports, and while it’s not what it once was, the new ownership group, MSP Sports Capital, plans to not only turn that around but make the X Games property bigger than ever. There’s a lot of excitement around the new regime and its plans, and the X Games media team invited me down to get my unbiased take on what X Games has turned into. As I do with al...

Bobby Brown was a dominant force at contests starting in 2010, and by 2017, it looked like he was on his way to his second Olympic Games, until that dream was taken away by injury. Knowing that traditional contests weren’t in his future, Bobby pivoted and took his tricks to the backcountry. Now his pro ski life is totally different than when we talked in 2017 and this time around, we discuss hi...

While Lucas Foster is not a one trick pony, when he landed his Alley Oop Double McTwist in the pipe, his career and his life totally changed forever. What’s crazy is that Lucas grew up in Telluride, a place without a halfpipe, meaning Lucas came up learning his tricks at contests with barely any practice. Nowadays, Lucas has all the resources available to up the ante even more as he’s a member ...

Outside Festival is a first-year event in Denver aimed at bringing the outdoor industry, the consumers, the brands and the athletes together. Scotty Lago has a path to pro snowboarding that’s different than almost anyone I’ve interviewed. Most high school dropouts don’t have Olympic Medals to go along with a grip of X Games and Dew Tour hardware, but that’s what Scotty Lago did. Dane Tudor has had an incredible pro ski career that’s been going on for 15 years, and while he’s getting older, Dane shows no sign of slowing down ski-wise, and no brands seem to care for some reason. Evan Raps was my fav original OG freeskier .. the spy ad on the tree.. I got sponsored by spy casue of that ad.
The interviewer turned into a straight dickhead near the last 20 minutes of this interview, throwing so much shade. Props to Charlie for keeping his cool 🤙🏼
The TANNER VS DUMONT battle was REAL! A game where amplitude goes up against style and in the end everyone wins! :)
dude is a legend. im not even into skiing, been snowboarding like twice. dude is a L E G E N D
I battle cocaine and alcohol addiction. I have for like 30 years. I hope Charley is doing better these days.
Legend
In a world that's grossly oversaturated - the coolest thing you can ever do is retain your mystery.
Switch god….
This is cool. I found out about Charlie Ager from the ski bum video
Dude I’m so shocked I never heard of him before. Glad I just found that video.😂
Damn this podcast was tough to listen to when he talks about falling off, battling with addiction and going to rehab. This guy could have done so much more with his talent and personality but he just didn’t give a shit.
Great epi
wow. Hard to believe... no views
Nice share!! You could get more fans with S M Z E U S!!!
Good interview of a good dude. Mark was my Atomic Rep when I worked for Gart. Used to go to his shows at Gilley's all the time. And worked security (my pt gig) when he went on his own and opened for Diamond Rio at Baldini's. PHIL FROM RENO
Can you post the first podcast with Tom
This was so awesome
Johan belongs in snowboarding's hall of fame and this is a reflective interview detailing the path of an industry pioneer. The vision he had for Powder Tools and the niche he intended the shop to occupy in the local scene (and beyond!) was sick to behold. Customer service and playing well with others can take you far.
Good interview. Thanks for sharing.

Rest in paradise, Ben.
Fuck yeah the good homie!
Great! keep it coming :D!!! Become a YT god > Promo sm!!
Definitely one of the leaders of our sport for years. An icon. Now that blading is back, will we see Cesar re-emerge?
stumbled upon this. Any idea when 'nothings for free' comes out?
thanks Mike. i discovered the Powell Movement first and then the Bomb Hole. now I'm back around to hear E-Stone on the Powell Movement. how RAD!
E STONE is the coolest dude ever
Mad Respect: Eric Schrijn is an absolute Legend in Rollerblading. He was always kind to the younger skaters coming into the scene and never had an ego. Just a humble pro skater.
❤️
I snowboarded with Jimbo at Squaw Valley for years. Respected , smoothest skier on the mountain. A true legend. 👍
ben's a complete wackjob. don't do drugs, kids.
Dig the podcast. Can’t stand the word “beanie”. It’s a touque!!!! 🇨🇦
Dude please get Trevor on the show. 👻🇨🇦
Devils Head ski area, awesome to hear it mentioned. My first downhill ski experience was not for from there at NordicMountain/MtMorris, WI. Amazing what happens to skiers from Wisconsin.
I remember those “Smoke a fatty for Ross Rebagliati” stickers all over Whistler in ‘98.
Great podcast I just stumbled on. Kills the time at work on the computer!! Just finished the John Cardiel, Mimi Knoop, Mike Ranquet, Seth Westcott episodes. Awesome stuff! I remember seeing Mark And Seth ride a Demo at my local hill in Wentworth , Nova Scotia back in the day. I'm thinking '96 or '97. Maybe even '95. A few of my friends got to ride it after signing waivers of course. Trevor Andrew was there ripping too. Such an epic day. I remember Mark hitting the kicker they got our groomer guy to make on his race setup. I wonder if Mark remembers that day?? Love to hear an episode with Trev, aka TRZA! Cheers from CANADA eh!
Man I appreciate this... I gained a family in Colorado and I'm stuck. I AM AN IDAHOAN DAMNIT. Love my kids I miss my home.
Glad to hear Jimbos voice! True competitor, raced with him those years as well. Those were the days of real speed skiers. We had to fight hard to make the cuts. Tracks were rough!
This was such a great listen. Always wanted to know what happened to this guy. Legendary switch landings and that whistler ski bum video. Theory 3 back in the day too. So sick
Keep it coming! I think you will be interested in P r o m o S M!!
Very insightful.
Good interview

bring birk back after the olympics
I love her... I watched her grow up as a young athelete in SUNDAY RIVER, MAINE
I'm a blader so I only know pat from his few appearances in VG back in the day. he sounds so embarrassed and ashamed talking about it now lol. I remember him hating on blading in a snowboard magazine years ago and wondered why since he was so close to people like dave Paine. anyways - its funny that rollerblading is such a source of shame for guys like him. like who cares?
Dude was my camp counselor at Lake Owen. He treated us great, helped me work on a ton of tricks...legit is a great dude imho! Dustin Latimer, Kevin Gillan, Josh Petty and Joe Navran all came to the camp that week and were also insanely nice to me. One of the very best memories a inline obsessed kid could possibly have - I'm forever grateful for those good vibes!
Thanks for doing this podcast. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed it. As a 35 year old sitting at a more "cerebral' job with a sore knee from my freeskiing days, this conversation helped me reflect on what that time in my life means to me. It's great to hear that Evan made such a solid transition to a non-athletic career. Keep up the good work.
‘sup?! Ww! really unusual .
