You've got some basic misunderstandings about what an antihero is. You seem to mistake any protagonist that's not a full hero for an antihero. To be an antihero you actually have to be a hero, and not every protagonist is a hero. Long ago the two were identical writing, you would say "Oh, so who's your hero?" but it's just not accurate anymore. Hannibal Lector is not an antihero. He is a complete villain. Making an evil character likable doesnt suddenly make them a hero. Same goes for Walter White. He's a villain protagonist. That's the word you're looking for: villain protagonist.

Point 10 ("Turn off your internal editor while writing") is arguably the most important one to remember for budding writers, and I've heard it echoed many times in other words (e.g. "you can edit a bad book, but not a blank page"). Your first draft is when you're just letting your thoughts spill out to form the skeleton of the story - it doesn't have to be _good_ yet. Personally, I rein myself in with this one by writing my first draft with anything other than a PC (e.g. a typewriter or just a physical notebook). Removing the ability to edit my work without reducing it to an ugly mess of scribbles, really helps to remove the urge itself.

Sounds like there’s not much difference between a villain and an anti-hero. Jesse Pinkman. I’m confused. I thought the hero was the main protagonist or protagonists that we side with. Whether they were criminals or not. Like Butch and Sundance.

These old hacks who can't sell books any more, or even get a publisher, want to tell you their secrets and whatever else, but if they still had the right stuff don't you think they'd be busy writing their next bestseller instead of hustling naive wannabes?

If you're a budding writer who's hoping to break into the bigtime literary club, think again. It's more about having connections than talent. You could write the great American novel and end up asking yourself what the hell went wrong. The publishing world is an insiders game.

Thank you, Mr.Jenkins, for helping us newbies to learn to start writing but telling us, basically, not to be a hero. I think short stories are the best at starting out. I sat down on my laptop and felt pressured to be like you and other authors. The first story or novel we write will hit the New York Times best selling author list and we are heroes. 😂🙄 Thank you for telling us to get rid of the pressure; I need to sit down in a quiet place and think and think and think then get going and have fun. If I muck up I muck up. Stay with it. 📚😎👍...
