My channel has several playlists. The Native Memory Project playlists are videos that also appear in a more curated form on the nativememoryproject.org website. These videos are monetized here and payment goes directly to this nonprofit. My other playlists generate no income and hopefully promote the artists shown who performed at a benefit concert for my friend Tom Britt in Nashville, TN. Hope you enjoy these divergent projects.
Food as Medicine
Sean Sherman is a James Beard award winning chef, author, and leader. He is also an educator, activist, and Indigenous food apostle. The restaurant he founded, Owanmi, was named the James Beard Best New Restaurant in American in 2022 and uses only pre-colonial foods in its offerings. Recognizing traditional Indigenous diets as both healthy and sustainable, through his non-profit Indigenous Food Lab, Sherman hopes to help grow the availability of regionally based Indigenous food offerings.
Growing the demand of traditional ingredients will help develop local food economies. Native restaurants can provide a source of both healthy food and jobs. Indigenous restaurants naturally showcase a diversity of ingredients and cooking styles as original Native food was defined by what was regionally sustainable giving modern chefs a cornucopia of styles and flavors to draw from. And as Sherman imagines it, there is no need be confined by colonial borders while celebrating the endless possibilities of Indigenous cooking.

Buffalo a Gift from the Creator

Crow historian, Grant Bulltail (RIP) graces us with his knowledge. For the Crow, buffalo was one of the greatest gifts of the Creator. Providing everything that was needed for food and shelter, it symbolized how closely their people lived in harmony with the natural world. The buffalo, said Grant “is everything to us”. But above all, it was a potent source of energy; people who had buffalo ener...

The Navajo have stories of a large hairy creatures, sometimes thought of as holy men, that they refer to as Yeti Di Kluii. There are historical stories of the interaction of these creatures with the Navajo people. In recent times, sightings are common in the more remote areas of the Four Corners region. Shiprock Peak rises from an ancient seabed. This 29-million-year-old fossilized volcanic remnant is a well-known geological formation in the Four-Corners Region. One story involves the Navajo arriving - possibly from another dimension - on a huge bird ...
Declining Bighorn Sheep populations

A die off of the Whiskey Mountain bighorn sheep herd in northwest Wyoming resulted in the death of about one third of its entire population. This was followed by a seven-year period of dangerously low lamb survival. In 1998 the Wyoming Game and Fish Department hired John Mionczynski to determine what was responsible for this reproductive decline. Conducting long-term field studies with the herd...

Isn't the carnivore diet the original diet? Check out Dr Ken D Barry, Dr Shawn Baker and Dr Anthony Chaffee
I'm not a doctor or an anthropologist, but I would venture that the 'original diet' consisted of what one could hunt & gather locally. What Sean has done is eliminate foods which where not available in North America before they were introduced by Europeans. So meat wise, he serves buffalo, rabbit, turkey - but not beef, pork or chicken.
@@GaryWortman That's a great approach for both health and well-being!
This was THE performance of the evening. Thank you so much for posting this.
Gary Wortman... can you say when & where this was recorded? I see it was posted Jan 9, 2017, but I'd like to know the time & location of the performance. Thanks in advance!
This and a bunch of other performers are on my Tom Britt Benefit Concert playlist. The event was 9/13/2016 at Third & Lindsley in Nashville. You can catch Tom playing slide with the 'house band'. enjoy
@@GaryWortman Thanks Gary, I appreciate the info. I'll aim to check out the other videos.

To play with anyone you can respond to, is the true joyous nature of Really playing music! To allow yourself to flow and understand the flip side. And to hold back, till your turn, and/or play inside to create the give and take, in unison!, to see the bigger picture of the real beauty of music! To take a breath away!
love your comment, which actually heightened my enjoyment of watching these musicians. Most, most appropriate. PREACH.
4:07 huh? Whaaaa! How he do that?? The right hand technique is so sick on this guy!
i have a feeling this may have been inspired by the flamenco guitar technique of "right hand tremolo" but developed into some different directions.... Just guessing
@@daisymoses6812yeah that and clawhammer posture it looks like. Crazy!
Stuart Duncan wins the solo award here, phenomenal!
Sam is such a good singer, he doesn't get enough credit for that!
This is one of the most American things I've ever seen.
I heard a Sasquatch story that explains that they grab deer by the throat and its an instant kill on the hunt for food
I'm a Indian from HOHRIVER Washington and I seen a sasquatch cross the lower hoh road 1130pm at night during a storm January 8 2022 he looked directly at me and took a step and a half and was gone into the forest once a sasquatch stole my deer and was screaming at me and my cousin truth and fact

We do need to encourage people to grow food, even if it's a windowsill. It provides fresh food and is also very grounding. We have been growing our veg for 30 years, it is much nicer when homegrown
Awesome. I can't wait to try this food😊
More of these topics and eloquent speakers. Much thanks. Cultural revitalization. Deep roots.

If Sam and Bela are there, you know it's good music.
When I came to College in Northern Wisconsin a while back, there were Native students there from surrounding Reservations. They were eager to talk to me me about a lot of local lore and traditions. It's good the Tribal People are opening up to the world because we really do need to hear them!

My brother, who was 13 months older than me, too me to see Sam at City Winery in Nashville a few months before he died. "Same Ole River" was the closer and I'll never forget looking at my brother, he had a cocktail in his hand just jammin' away, and it was like time stopped. I can close my eyes today and go right back there and this song, especially the long jams of this version. It's cathartic to go there and feel it all. Appreciate this post and Sam Bush for this beautiful song!

"KOOKUM" Made me listen blindly till I realized I had steak cooking...
My mom used to tell my brothers and I a similar story. When she was a kid, they would hear something running around their house late at night. Like real heavy footsteps, just going round and round the house. And if a window was cracked, they could smell something foul. One incident was that her dad came home late. He'd been out drinking with a few friends and a cousin. They pulled into the driveway, and their headlights landed on this big hairy thing standing in the yard, near the edge of the yard. My grand dad jumped out of the car and started chasing it. Grand dad passed away before I was born. Years later, in my 30s, at a family get-together, my grandfather's cousin is there. He was talking to my mom about the old house, and then he's like, "Hey, 'member that time Tommy (granddad) chased that Bigfoot into the woods? He was a crazy sob!". It was a genuine memory. Gave me chills.
A couple hundred people in a bars basement in Pittsburgh- easily one of the best concerts I’ve ever seen.
To hear this lady talk is fascinating. To think that all the different native communities spoke a different dialect years ago and they all have stories dating back centuries. Each tribe with a different name for SASQUATCH
There's so much we cannot explain about this world. Human beings are a tiny speck . Glad I found this channel.
This is amazing history you need to add Diné tribe videos and videos like the Anasazi of skinwalkers from the medicine perspective lol
Blackfeet Nation Reservation MT, My Mother’s Home is 3 miles from Glacier National Park. There is absolutely No Wildlife because of this Bigfoot Creature, but Not only that but there’s more than that around there, my brother scared one away from there & all he could see was a big tall figure running away. My bro could hear the ground pounding with every footstep, it ran behind a little hill and within moments came out from behind the hill was about 8-10 Horse's running for their life.

And white overalls and they must be about least a foot high and their floating in between the trees and I'm like I must be high off my mind his face turned pale white and he said trolls you can see the trolls and I said that's a thing I had no idea and he said don't talk to them they lured children away into the woods then I said no they're just misunderstood and I don't know why I came out with that comment but ever since then I felt deeply drawn to that land and I visit
