Professor Vikas, given that Russia and Belarus are amongst the world's largest potash and natural gas producers, how will this impact India?

Thank you for the lesson! Very interesting and, as always, prof. Cornia was able to stress relevant points on key and controversial aspects. Thank you again.

5.18s 'Lots of people were already wearing masks.' This is arguably the biggest reason that there was no significant viral outbreak in Thailand or in Hong Kong. It was winter in Hong Kong in January - but all the protestors were also wearing masks. Facemasks save the lives of doctors and nurses everyday. And they saved Thailand and Hong Kong.

Thank you sir for your insightful lecture. I have a few questions:- 1- DA and DR suspension for year and a half isn’t a healthy way for redistribution of income. It in a way decreases the welfare of middle income families who were entirely dependent on the meagre monthly pension or salary. How do you suggest that government will ensure their welfare because they don’t even come in the target group of relief package? It is further rumoured that government is likely to cut down the medical reimbursements to people claiming for their monthly routine medicines and bills therefore. This again is not a welcome move. 2- welfare of people and economy of nation are not truly contradicting. Because some money is needed for subsistence. And thus, the large demograph of country contributes in generating demographic dividend. Large scale unemployment for such huge population or lockdown is welfare in only health sense but people will die in hunger before virus kills them. So how do u actually expect welfare to reach out to people? 3- how can socialism thrive in a globalised world when capitalists are not shying away from making profits even at the time of crises led by pandemic (eg. Facebook and Jio deal)? 4- in authoritarian regime like in republic of China, it has reaped benefits from the current situation imposed by covid 19 in all economic aspects- be it selling testing kits (medical device manufacturing industry); storing cheap crude oil (oil economics); procuring cereals from round the world especially from USA (championing at agrarian front as well as meeting it’s important export quota for the year); also buying shares in big giants / mncs (final stroke of international economic domination)- china’s economy will bounce back in no time. So is authoritarian move bad to follow? 5- in country like ours where public healthcare infrastructure is insufficient for its population, nationalisation of hospitals and other healthcare centres is a good suggestion, but the question arises how far can private sector willingly come forward ? 6- finally, in times like this, when even financial emergency is also expected, can we expect each and everyone not to be corrupt n be honest to his office ?
