The engine is a 361 FE, in 1958 there were only two engines in Edsel's, the based cars Ranger and Pacer had a 361 FE called an E 400 because it had 400 ft pounds torque.it was a 351 bored 0.050" and The Mercury based Edsel Citation Capri had 410 Ci engine called E475 torque rating. a small-bore Version of the Lincoln 430 engine.
@mylanmiller9656 thanks for the info!
The speedometer in the edsel is amazing it's a drum with a dial like an old dashboard from a space ship, edsels the lemons in the Cadillac and Chevy universe!
Nothing worse than watching a revival with someone who has no idea what hes doing.......peace out at 1/2 way through
It’s great to see your video on this. Dang…. Do I really look that old? ;) I think the old man would be happy to see what you’ve done so far. :)
You'll probably got a numbers matching engine under the hood and you're going to change it😮 I guess so. Nothing to lubricate the cylinders or the valves just start cranking on it after being shut off for years and years. Pumping fuel into it till it's hydrolocked revving the crap out of it before it's even gone through a heat cycle then putting May pops on it and the worst ones in the back so it can rip the rip up the rear fenders when they shred. I think this is enough of this video for me. I'm going to go back to the world of common sense
33:13 that’s the only way
I don't know what you paid for it.But that old car sounds good.Might be a three ninety or three fifty two. Or an m e l motor, mercury edsel lincoln.
@johnroof2663 it was definitely 100% worth what I gave for it! Another gentleman told me it's a 361 but still an FE motor.
She's a runner 👍🏻
I really hope this guy sells this car to someone who really know what they're doing to restore this beauty back to it's former glory.......
Very cool 🤙 I just picked up a handful of cars from an old collection. There is a few Edsel's on site couple coupes and wagons
She's a rough old girl but the FE sounds decent and the Fordomatic is still working. There's two wins!
Ur first diagnostic step wasn't good,first thing needs to b comes first its not realy teachable .
That wasn't the first step, somehow I managed to lose a bunch of clips for this video. 🤦♂️
Hey I came across your CZcams!! Lol Maybe that’s the “point” of something!! You got a subscriber out of it anyways!! 🤷🏻♀️🤣
@@laceylou44 🤣🤣🤣 Hey!! Thanks for the sub!
Thank you I always enjoy a good Edsel rescue or anything related. Very cool car. Cool body design on the 58. The top of the model line is a very interestingly cool car. Rebuild the engine, drive train , interior and body. Repaint to it original color as well. Then you have a great classic daily driver....
For God's sake-use some starting fluid! I love how all of these CZcamsrs grind and grind on these poor starters. A dry engine like that takes a hell of a lot more gas than them tiny little dribbles that you are giving it. And hold the throttle open while trying to start it. I could of had that fricking thing running in 15 seconds. If it don't fire in a few revelutions don't keep grinding. Won't watch anymore of your videos.
I want that Dentside truck behind that Mustang! 0:51
The 9 inch came out in 57 but the bearings were not good the first year. In 58 ford got it right and now they are in every old hot rod. Sounds like the engine is better than you thought. The 4100 is my favorite carb ford put out and easy to rebuild. If you decide to not build it, look me up. Good luck.
@jeffhill2089 thanks for the info man!! I was surprised at how good this engine sounds and carb worked pretty well! The car is for sale, you can email me shawncross81@yahoo.com
I’m 68 years old is my dream car so I could decide to sell it let me know please
@leewalker3514 shawncross81@yahoo.com, shoot me an email, it is for sale

First nine inch 57 Ford
New here and one thing I know about Edsel, they werent great, good or even reliable.
@@mistermacgray 🤣🤣 I like the classy look and love the grill!!
@Crossthe_line the public back in the day wasn't convinced for sure...today they turn heads to them but back them, nobody blinked an eye. 26 months was for sure a short run.
E400 is a 361 CID (400 was torque). It was a slightly over-bored 352, which later got bored up to 390. It’s a good engine!
@brianandrews7099 I had heard they put torque numbers on valve covers but wasn't sure, thanks for the info!! The engine really runs good, just needs some love.
Hi, nice find and i noticed the rear mount antenna holes so at some point your 58 Edsel had a two-way mobile radio and with the black Duco it has maybe it is a former police unit, some US states did have Edsel police cars, it is worth saving for sure, good luck with it, cheers from grant.
@@grantberecry thanks for the info, I never knew that!!
@@Crossthe_line Cheers and yes it had a large whip style rear antenna on it at some point, my 57 Plymouth is a former law enforcement car so i look for tell-tale clues of former police cars, they can be worth big dollars now so check into it a bit more and i hope you keep it and save it, cheers and it would be cool to find out it was an old patrol car, cheers from grant
It's good to see another Edsel on YT. One day I might be encouraged enough to get my Edsel off the trailer and start to work on it.
FE were the best all around motor Ford made !
@@ronaldolweiler7745 I've never had any good luck out of them myself
That's a sweet old runner. I enjoyed watching. I'm close to you over in Holly Lake
@leebidlack7838 not far at all, thanks for watching!
Grats on the fun ride also in early cranking sounded a bit advanced on the timing.
@stephenhotzjustdriveit what's funny is I never thought about the timing until I was editing. Then I was like "what an idiot!!" 🤣
@@Crossthe_line I do that a good bit too. I did the drive shaft yoke shuffle too last weekend on a 72 Ranchero. I can feel your pain.
Enough people are doing this already. If you can't bring something different or better you just end up sucking and wasting bandwidth.
@ScottTaylor-ru3hi can't please everyone, thanks for the comment!!
So everyone finds a 58 Edsel? People watch these because of the car not the getting it running part. Many people do metal detecting videos, you could say they are all the same thing too. The thrill is the variety of finds and feeling like you are along for the treasure hunt. Quit trolling.
@@Crossthe_line Thanks for sharing. Interesting find.
@jerrywilliams8733 thanks for the support!
I mean it is true .. “will lt runs “but if newer channels want higher views they have to make it better ..camera on the exhaust when it first starts up body and paint work. That’s just a couple examples.. Pole Barn garage is the best channel on CZcams by far. Not putting down your channel just saying what a lot of people like
I have that same turbo on my 97 5 speed 12v. Runs hell of good. Luckly i live in utah 20mins from industrial injection and 2hrs from power driven diesel so its easy to get parts and the wait time is the same day haha. Nice build dude
@davidstrange1780 thanks man!
Hey, you got a runner!! Nice project car. just don't go driving it around playgrounds and elementary schools. Cold War Motors was working on one for a long while and you might pick up some tips from them. Thanks for posting and good luck.
