    Great video. I'm trying to decide between the cube and the Pro. In your opinion, are the Pro's additional features worth the price tag. I have 6 hens. Thought process pros: larger area - more time between cleanings, more space = less pecking, pull out tray for nesting box, room for expanding flock. Cons: Price, possibly colder in winter due to extra space, weight and ease of movement with tractor and run. Would you upgrade?

    • @tanakahomestead8820
      @tanakahomestead8820 Před 18 dny

      I think you would be perfectly fine with 6 medium hens in the Eglu Cube. It seems like Eglu Pro is literally double the size (side by side) of the Eglu Cube and for 6 chickens that is a lot of space:). Now, if 6 is your number the Cube would be perfect, but if you think in any way, shape, or form you may want more chickens in the future and you can afford it get the Eglu Pro. For me that price is killer! I am gonna have to save up...I would love to have more chickens, but then again, with more space comes more cleaning:) There are some new features for the Eglu Pro that I like. I am actually going to be doing a video on this. Now, I do not have the Eglu Pro, but I was just going to talk about my Eglu Cube and tell the differences compared to the Pro. Maybe that video will help! I appreciate your question. Happy chicken raising!

    That looks like the most fair comparison possible. I had heard aerobic-compost was more brown & anaerobic-compost was more black, but they add so many different things now that who knows... I'd also note that if you have a dog or feral-cats then maybe they are applying urea to the front corners of those beds, I joke as I don't see any burns on the leaves from a feral-cat or dog spraying things down.

    • @tanakahomestead8820

      I have a female dog, BUT the stray cats are endless! We also have raccoons, and our fair share of rodents in the area. They kill me! Check out my other comparison videos if you have a chance. I always have fun doing those. Of course it is not a perfectly controlled experiment, but gives a little insight. Thank you for your comment. Happy gardening!

  • @medtronicmom

    Have you compared the yield yet or have you not harvested peas yet? I have been so concerned about getting compost with herbicide in it. So many people are having that problem. I have sorta stayed away from compost that the animals could have eaten tainted hay since the herbicides are sprayed on hay to keep the weeds out--I guess corn also. It can be a little daunting when you are commiting to spreading it all over your garden. Your results are very compelling, though! Thanks so much!

      I just posted a short showing some of the peas I harvested and the two raised beds in their current state:) I understand your concern about compost and herbicides. Trust me. I have never had any issues, but I have heard of people who have. I am actually going to be doing a video about this very soon. You can always check your compost before you plant anything using controls and the compost itself. It may take some time OR just make your own compost:)

    How do you prune Eggplants as they grow? Some people use tomato cage. Do u tie them on the post as they grow???

    • @tanakahomestead8820
      @tanakahomestead8820 Před 21 dnem

      My eggplants tend to get very large and so a tomato cage would not be helpful. Just today I had to put heavy duty metal stakes in and tie twine around my plants to the stake. I just noticed when I went out there one of my plants was leaning over with 3 gigantic eggplant on the one side. I guess they were really weighing it down. Geez. I guess it is a good problem:). That specific plant has about 9 eggplants growing on it in total. Crazy. As far as the pruning, I totally do this. It is not necessary though. With that being said I do a decent amount of pruning. Sometimes I have to cut long branches during the growing season, because they are interfering with other plants. This has never hurt anything:)
