Thanks for posting. Difficult to hear Bill's exact wording and The transcript is incorrect throughout. However, AA's singleness of purpose is heard loud and clear. For me, I am a drunk. Alcohol was my master. Bill ends his talk saying we need to find sobriety from alcohol, then we can begin to work on the 'world's' problems..and those about us.. It was such an Amen, for me..yes! I can't help anyone or anything until I find my solution. Love hearing Bill! And thank God for his sobriety and passion. Bless you all!

About your first sentence: _"I am powerless over alcohol"_ instead of _"I am an alcoholic":_ My problem with both sentences is that they lock someone into the cliché of being "an *alcolic* ", when in fact mental and spiritual evolution at one point calls for us to liberate ourselves from all rasters, like beauty, wealth, title, etc. Hence I would rater say _"I *was* powerless over alcohol / an alcoholic".

Today I realised for the first time ever in my life that I am an alcoholic - you would imagine that I would have had this realisation before today and before today I would have said that I was aware of this but now I know that I was not aware - I spoke the words but I didn't feel the truth of what I was saying but now as I sit here after a meeting I know what those words mean and I also know now that they are far more than mere words - the statement "I am an alcoholic" carries the truth of who I am deep into my soul and I can never allow myself to forget this feeling that I am now experiencing - the truth of who I am is in those words - I am an alcoholic and I am powerless over alcohol - this means that alcohol has a power over me but this power is determined by me, my mind, my thoughts and my actions - I know now that I am in a battle for my own soul and it's a battle I cannot win on my own - I need help, I need God - please God help me, please please please God help me...
