Kenshi | (Hopefully) Explaining How Armo(u)r Works
There's more to armor in Kenshi than looking good. I wanted to help explain how armor works, to help answer the question of 'what armor to wear'. I might do a follow up, on what armors I think are 'best', but, we'll see.

(Early Access) Pax Dei | Weapon Durability Is Rather Strange
zhlédnutí 473Před měsícem
I couldn't begin to guess at what the culprit is. I've had this happen with other weapons as well. While higher quality weapons may have a higher durability pool, the end result would likely still be the same (a greater durability hit). Whether there's a hidden 'weapon hardness' or some other untold systems at play, I couldn't begin to guess.

    Items might have different life durability depending on how far the blue bar went up during the crafting. So my theory is that the higher the blue bar went when the item was crafted the more life durability it will have.

    How does dmg get applied by weapons? What does 1.50 cutting dmg and 1.28 blunt dmg mean? How do these translate to a dmg value applied to a body part?

    • @davidthor4405
      @davidthor4405 Před 13 dny

      Unsure, but it could be based on the damage number shown in your weapon stats (ex: if heavy weapon damage is 70, then a weapon with a modifier of 2,00 is going to double that maybe). Then there’s the stuff with strength and dex that (I recall) play some factors

  • @eyosama5514
    @eyosama5514 Před 15 dny

    I see a bit of an issue with your hypothesis : you are neglecting the speed of the weapon. Saying a 2-hander is better because it only takes 20 hits to kill rather than the 30 of a 1-hander, is inaccurate. The hits/second of the 1-hander is higher than that of the 2-hander. Also, just adding Health+Stamina as one pool, is also inaccurate because they are 2 pools that can be depleted individually, especially since depleting the Health pool means you are down, even if your Stamina Pool is full. The other issue with the 2-hand sword, for example, is that because hitting with it is so slow, you often don't have enough time to block because your a fast hitting enemy can hit faster than you can swipe then block, while with a 1-hander you are able to, so you tend to take more damage with the 2-hander because of missed blocks, compared to how you can get blocks in reliably with a fast 1-hander+shield. I think it would be great if you could add time to your calculations and actual successful blocks, to see what the true picture is.

    Thank you for finally clearing up the mystery of armour and how it works. Though I still had to rewatch a few parts, especially the cut resistance part. I always thought the percentage chance on the armour was the chance to NOT get hit, which I always assumed was the wrong understanding since it would make armour staking obsolete.

    • @zombiegandhi8405
      @zombiegandhi8405 Před 19 dny

      Due to the hit multiplier, the most damaged parts have a higher chance to be hit--since they've already been hit. So the enemies themselves aren't so much 'choosing' those damaged parts on their own, as it is that those parts due to being hit, have a higher chance on the 'to be hit table', to be hit. That's why it can see like certain body parts get 'focused'.

    i think it would be worth it to test how this relates to the amount you block for, i have a feeling that the block after attack actually blocks a lot more damage coming through and that may be taking it off the durability of the weapon/shield instead of your health/stamina. this is only based off circumstantial experience for me, i haven't tested it yet, but makes sense based on what i've seen.

But the benefit of the shield in my opinion is Shield slam Stun/Taunting, also in some cases in dungeons bosses will absolutely destroy your blocking weapon in like 2-3 hits. • @zombiegandhi8405
      @zombiegandhi8405 Před měsícem

      Oh, I don't doubt there's a few 'use cases' for shields in the current game build. The shield slam IS nice, but given the current game system, it's not a great stamina/damage trade, compared to just a block and follow up attack. The game's systems are still so dang wonky. One day, hopefully, it'll all be sorted proper. But, until then! I just wanted to bring something I noticed to light--which, I'm pretty sure, the devs already know. :D

    If you recruit 10 NPCS in the first 2 days, you can easily earn 30k everyday in the first week without doing anything, but AUTOMATED mining. AND you will have time to train a couple of them lockpicking, stealth, and assassination in the first few days while others are mining AUTOMATICALLY without much micromanagement. LOL AND the more they mine, the faster they mine and the more money they earn WITHOUT all the micromanagement. A large team of miners can earn 100 to 200k everyday after day 30. Trading is HARD money. AND you don't gain any experience over time, except for athletics. You can train athletics and strength by setting up a good "mining practice". The price differences in different cities are tiny AND you have to waste time traveling. Totally inefficient. The ultimate problem of trading is, only a few large cities, like Squin, can afford to buy over 100k cats of goods everyday. With such a low profit margin, you will have to run around like crazy to earn more than 50k cats daily. That's just a tiny amount of money for my team. LOL

    Maybe the devs thought people might build shops in every major city eventually during end game, and then get passive income until you need to restock the items. But it seems like if you put crafting stations for medical/food inside of a building you buy in every single city, with storages to hold the excess, then the passive income would be greater. You could build farms outside the city for the shopkeep to maintain, to help keep the supply going? Just started playing Kenshi about 2 months ago though, and it’s so complex that I’m sure I’m incorrect to some degree of how time consuming/easy this would be. My guys are finally starting to become “chads” though and don’t get killed by hungry bandits anymore so that’s pretty awesome!

    • @zombiegandhi8405
      @zombiegandhi8405 Před 2 měsíci

      I suspect the shops and buying of things, are there for two reasons: 1.) because it's interesting 2.) it helps to tell the narrative of what the world's like. No one seemingly can afford weapons, armor, or even fancy food--so anyone in a place of power who can offer you such things (the major factions), have quite the allure. Making money in Kenshi is very, very easy; and setting up shops isn't a 'good' way to make it---but, I think it's a FUN way to make it. I think they're great for RP focused runs: maybe you want to set up a fast food chain, and all that goes into supplying it. I think shops are just interesting, fun, neat, and different gameplay loops the emergent narrative provides.

    • @Jaymennn
      @Jaymennn Před 2 měsíci

      @@zombiegandhi8405 awww man I didn’t even think about that but I think you are completely right. It wasn’t supposed to be a major source of income but adds to the RP and FUN in the game when you finally and actually make sales. It adds another layer to the gameplay and immersion and fits within the setting and narrative! I really like this response thank you! Would you think it’s viable at all to set up multiple shops as a source of income or would it be way too tedious? I’m thinking about it and I feel like multiple shops in cities would just be way too difficult because you’d have to micromanage it quite a bit with farms outside the city and whatnot. Thank you!

    • @zombiegandhi8405
      @zombiegandhi8405 Před 2 měsíci

      @@Jaymennn I think it will require a fair bit of logistics to get off the ground, but not impossible. You will need to keep someone in the area to keep the 'cell' active (which means they'll need food, unless it's a skeleton). That's not too difficult, depending on what you're going to try and sell food wise--though again, most NPCs are pretty poor, so even a load of bread might be a big ask. You'll want to position your farming base that's within easy reach of the places you want to set up shops in--and of course, have guards who are strong enough to fight off any attackers. Maybe setting up the farm in an easier area, may be worth the longer trek.

    • @zombiegandhi8405
      @zombiegandhi8405 Před 2 měsíci

      So that depends on a few things: mostly, whether or not NPCs in that area have 'shopping' in their list of 'things to do'. In my experience, most NPCs who frequently shop, seem to the caravan merchants and those part of; where residents of a town/city/village, seem to have their 'shopping needs' already met. The Wandering Assassins will also shop (especially for bandages in the swamp--those dang blood spiders). So it depends on who all is in that area; whether you have caravans visiting; and so on. You can get an idea of who at least has the 'shopping' tag, for lack of better word, by looking for that yellow-greenish color of Cats being spent--and for the dialogue of "I can't afford that". This can let you know the type of NPCs who are able/willing/wanting to buy 'something'.

(Domesticated had a run speed of 27 mph, and the Back Bull topped out at 14 mph regardless of what he was carrying). Pack Bull had significantly higher max carry capacity even though (max carry of 67) versus the Domesticated Bull with the same Bull Backpack on with only 1 STR difference had a max capacity of 46. If it's the same piece of wall every time, consider tearing it down and building with less sharp angles/around that spot. So long as there's no pathing available 'through' your walls, they will/should go through the gate, since that's where the AI pathing will find the only entry. This is of course speaking of vanilla. wow very hard and difficult way to make money from animal products...or you can simply build an outpost in the leviathan coast which is hugely fertile and the leviathans trample dozens of garru and beak things everywhere and endlessly respawning and trampling them...simply gather,and make your food there.Zero inital outlay in having to purchase any animals.

      That would be a fun gameplay loop. I'm sure with mods, there'd be a way to repair what's there, but as is in vanilla--one would just have to make do. Still! Provides some fun aspects and purpose to firing up a Holy Nation loop.

    Im sure some npc can buy weapons because some times they only have a secondary or a primary but not the other

      My understanding is that outside of mods, vanilla game, they cannot. They are either 1.) Not on their list of things to buy 2.) They do not have the cats to purchase a weapon.

    If you tie in the knowledge of your shop counter video you can probably get a lot more from the food since you'd get the full value not the sell value. I'm wondering how good setting up a shop in the boneyard in Catun would be, as you can automate a shop for the town as there is a long house there close to the gate. Set up a partially afk animal gathering worker then have others automate the cooking/production of leather to sell at the counter. Just check back in from time to time while you've another group off doing more involved things. The town is well guarded so for the most part you should be protected. Just make sure the gatherer is someone you don't mind losing if they go out at the wrong time.

    I put this video on once while trying to fall asleep and boy howdy did it work. This was an accident, by the way, I was trying to wind down, not completely pass out. Good information nonetheless.
