One of my favorite parts of master of puppets love how it goes from grunge to sweet and pretty
Finally I can understand it now time to cover magbalikable
Great breakdown of a classic. It is estimated there have been over 25,000 recorded versions of George Gershwin's 'Summertime', making one of the most covered songs of all time. The Guinness book of world records gives that award to 'Yesterday' which has over 2,200 recorded covers but the discrepancy is due to how they qualify the songs. André does a fine job as always of breaking it down and looking at all the nuances.
I knew there were a lot, not that there were 25.000 recorded (and released) versions of it. Makes me think of the father of a woman I knew. He collected different versions of his favourite tune "Caravan". I think he had over a thousand collected at the time. 😲
sorry,which tuning?
Beautiful song and nice job with the lesson!
Nice one!
Thanks! Today I'm doing the last part on this tune, live at 900am pacific time, hope you can make it 🙂
Sounds good!
I like how you are doing them
Thanks, I am looking forward to improving them bit by bit and make the streams more smooth. That'll come with time. The hardest part is to be engaging haha Which is weird because I have no issues at all when I'm around people to have fun, crack jokes etc etc. A stream is different :-)
Didn’t get to watch live today Andre but love it!
Thanks Pete! Would an evening stream be better for you?
@@Yourguitarworkshop would be for me. I practice at night so it would be convenient but either way I watch and practice with them. I’m making up for lost time!
@@petestern3639 I will do some evening streams after august break to see how that goes. Also will be trying out a dual stream youtube and twitch at the same time, see how that goes 🙂
I learnt most of the metallica from ur channel . U have helped alot of people in south asian region for ur metallica lesson. Love and regards from Nepal❤.Long live André.
Thank you so much! My 7year old son is also a big Metallica fan so possibly there will be more Metallica coming to the channel 🙂 Wishing you a wonderful week, Love from BC, Canada
Also heaps of finger style won't go astray
Yeah I have some fingerstyle things planned, hopefully this week ,otherwise it'll be next week 🙂
Great as always, are there any future opportunities for a live beginners level should do a viewers poll to see.
Really good question and the quick answer is: Yes! I am setting up a new channel dedicated to beginner players and I will start doing live sessions there as well. This will likely be sometime in September.
What's up, I forgot your name, it's like a french name. Sorry I missed you. Are you close to Auberry, California. Oh your in Spokane Washington. We have fires too. Is this the Janis one or Joanne Shaw Taylor. Sounds different to me.
My name is André, we're living up in BC, Canada. 40km from the US border and not too far from Spokane I think. Billy and Marcus gave it their own twist I think but it is based on Doc Watson's version of this tune I think. The original was by Gershwin
During the next session we'll go into the guitar solos of both Billy Strings and Marcus King: czcams.com/users/liveE6d4fUtyPaA?feature=share
WAS THAT CHARLIE MANSON OR WHAT ?
Truth is in the eye of the beholder, but in this case the beholder might need some glasses ;-)
A tough song and all the melodies are in the chords. You look like your guitar is easy to play because your flowing right through the chord changes, Peace 🕊️
The neck on the Berlin is a nice to play but for these chord-melody-type songs I've come to appreciate the feel of the stratocaster which has a slightly wider neck. I have fairly big hands so there's more space for finger placement. BTW if you see one of the transcription videos on this tune you can see I was struggling with sections in the beginning for sure. I've just put in a few hours of practice so it is starting to come together. 🙂
In case you missed the first half of the lesson, you can find it here: czcams.com/users/liveCJsvMUObGJQ For the tab go to patreon.com/yourguitarworkshop
This is a quickly edited version of a live stream I did on Tuesday July 16th. I cut out most of the "chit chat" at the start so you drop right into the part that most of you are here to see 🙂 Have fun! Tab for this solo is available here: patreon.com/yourguitarworkshop
Never short of words ( there's a word store just down the street and they are always on sale) Hey Now! Hey Now! 'Don't Dream It's Over' another great Mateus Asato cover. czcams.com/video/pTt04A_Gph4/video.html
I did that one actually, but maybe a breakdown of the harmonies and such?
Sure, that sounds great. But maybe Africa first if you haven’t done that before?
@@jerroldthompson5889 Probably yes. I've been looking at Billy Strings as well and Marcus King, might do something there. Still looking for the right fit for tomorrow 🙂
Just ran across this Rick Beato interview of Mateus Asato and at the very beginning of it he mentions John Frusciante being a big influence on him right up there with John Mayer. czcams.com/video/kg-IRJI1CZ0/video.html
...Matues goes on to say in this interview that the guy that actually 'opened his horizons' was actually a band mate who played the keyboard, and the way he used a harmonizer pedal. So no mainstream guitar hero, just a guy in his band producing some really cool sounds.
That's an awesome story. I have learned so much from bandmembers. Through them just playing, sharing their thoughts, or telling me I should play a certain part differently to make it work better with the music. guitar heros can inspire us to play but the people we play with shape how we play with others
Ok the explanation and camera angles are perfect. Keep this teaching up! Did you by chance record the chorus part??
Yes I did :-) Here's the playlist: www.yourguitarworkshop.com/guitar-lessons/here-without-you-3-doors-down/
i still dont get it at all..how lol
Hey Andre, how about a breakdown of a boogie solo using a hybrid right hand technique like Vinnie Moore's "Vinman's Brew" or something? Sorry about the Google Translate
I know some older vinnie moore stuff, this is new to me. Very virtuoso, wow. (assuming you mean this: czcams.com/video/lhrTrNZ9KFA/video.html ) Reminds me of Michael Lee Firkins in places
@@Yourguitarworkshop Oh, I remember Michael Lee Firkins VHS tapes, they were as hard to get in Russia in the 90s as Vinnie Moore. Steve Vai tapes were on every corner back then. But I mean exactly this style - when you use a pick and the middle finger. You can't find any lessons like this on CZcams, only country and bluegrass.
I'll look into it, no promises but I'll have a look. I used to play "runaway train" by Michael Lee Firkins, but that is ages ago :-)
@@Yourguitarworkshop and yeah man, i forgot to tell you, your government recently blocked us from sending money even to Patreon its kinda annoying.
oh really? I didn't know that. So that's a Canadian thing? That is definitely worrying
Robben Ford is just genius....
Yes he is. There's so much great stuff in his solos. What I thought was really cool is when I saw the rhythms on paper you can see things he uses a lot and they're not really hard to implement into your playing either.
You used to have a video where the complete hotel California solo and it's been deleted it was a while back I cannot and it shows step-by-step how you do the actual lead on the guitar and you seem like you don't have that video I'm you're the only one that I like to learn from the lead on the guitar on hotel California so can you please help me with this
I have all those videos on my patreon, they were getting blocked constantly. I think the main solo is still there, not the outro solo. This is the main solo link on youtube: czcams.com/video/0zVM-irWhTs/video.html You can watch it outside the USA (maybe try a VPN?), everything else is blocked
Does this mean that I have to carry my calculator every time to add now.😅
@@back2frontguitar113 I would hope not. If you need a calculator to add 7 + 12 or 8 + 7, then maybe my 7 year old can offer you some tutoring 😉
I could always use my fingers but then I wouldn't be able to play the guitar. Hehehe love your work.
@@back2frontguitar113 haha true true 😀
ALL ITS F****ING DOING IS MUTING IT!!!!!!!
yeah that sucks, I did a live stream on this thing, you can check it here, maybe the golden tip is in it somewhere: czcams.com/users/livemK1ru4LjGtc
could you teach The unforgiven II by metallica? please
I've worked on that tune with one of my students, maybe I'll drop it in one of my live streams, I'll think about it
Is this in standard Tuning?
half step down 🙂

@@Ghragle- This morning was the pinched harmonic stream, next week on Wednesday we'll complete the Mateus series on How Deep is Your Love. Have a wonderful week!
The fifth fret pinch harmonics on the g string you were doing remind me of the Jimi Hendrix star spangled banner
Yes! Once you know where to find these things it gets easier to do all sorts of melodies with them
Great lesson. Had to leave bit earlier. I’ll tell u how it goes when I get home. Thsnks
Awesome, have fun 🙂
Thank you Sir. God bless you! 🙂
If you haven't yet, check out my tutorial for his version of How Deep Is Your Love. This upcoming Wednesday at 900am pacific time I'm doing a live stream on the second half of that tune.
I was happy to see this video and then realized it was done 10years ago. You got the goods bro
10 years already! And now my 7 year old son is listening and learning metallica songs haha
I kept trying but I can't do it:( either it sounds normal or i just mute it with my thumb
I am doing a live stream on this technique, Thursday july 11th 900am pacific time, maybe we can shed some light onto things then :-) czcams.com/users/livemK1ru4LjGtc?feature=share
idk why I just can't do slap and flick that action without hitting other strings
In the beginning it requires some practice for sure. It is hard to give tips without seeing you play.

Thank you so much for sharing this, I didn't know that!
At 10:09 which is bar 30 there is a transition which is somewhat difficult for me, and the F#7(#5) is a difficult chord to play also. I had to reverse the positions of the middle and ring finger to make it easier to play. At one point when I was having trouble making a chord transition to a difficult chord you showed me (I believe) 3 different exercises that would help train the muscle memory. Can't remember what all of those were now---perhaps would make a good 1 or 2 minute quick tutorial?
I'd have to think about that for a second myself actually. :-)
Thanks alot man
Thank you for your constant efforts. Love from India.
Thank you my friend! Hopefully there was something in this stream that was useful for you :-)
Really enjoying them Andre. Robben ford solo is great
Yes, I have to continue that transcription actually, thanks for the reminder, I'll schedule it for next week :-)
